  1. They can't keep him on the DL if he's healthy. He could be fully recovered from the injury, from a medical position (which would make him ineligible to remain on the DL), but still not have good command of his pitches.
  2. Lynn was almost equally as bad last year, 4.82 FIP vs. 5.35 this year. He's just not getting lucky like he did last year. This is why there wasn't much interest in him around the league. It's not just 8 starts. He's been bad since the surgery, he just got really lucky last year.
  3. With a career. 598 MiLB OPS, he'd have to make Ozzie Smith look like Delmon Young defensively to have a shot.
  4. Oh, most definitely. We're all being hoodwinked, daily, by a lot of people.
  5. Do employers still communicate via handwritten, cursive letters? That's amazing to me, if true, and not anecdotal. I'm 35, and have never in my life gotten business correspondence in anything other than typed memos, or (mostly) digital communications. I'd imagine for anyone going to school now, that will especially be the case. Sure, I might occasionally get a birthday or xmas card from a relative that has something written in cursive inside it, but that's certainly not the responsibility of school, IMO. Parents can still choose to teach their children cursive if they choose. I just don't see how cursive any longer has much, if any, relevance to the areas of life that school should be preparing kids for.
  6. Yeah the NRA can never, with a straight face, claim they are for keeping guns in law abiding citizens hands, when they choose their public face to be a guy busted selling guns to drug cartels. Their agenda is purely to allow gun manufacturers to make as much profit as possible. The average joe with a hunting rifle that thinks the NRA represents him is being hoodwinked.
  7. The two games being debated were 3:00 and 3:15.
  8. I agree Levi, that it's going to take a combination of many actions to fix this. I'm happy to see Houston's police chief come out in favor of one measure that I've always thought should be enacted. That being that gun owners who don't secure their weapons, should be held criminally liable if those weapons are used in a crime. This is at least the second mass shooting in which the guns were acquired from a family member who owned them legally.
  9. League average start is just over 5 1/3 innings. This is baseball now, it's not a Twins thing.
  10. Ah, it all makes sense now.
  11. Jake Cave took Mauer's roster spot.
  12. That's baseball now. League average start is just over 5 1/3 innings. This isn't a Twins thing.
  13. Does anyone doubt that if it was brown people in turbans killing our schoolchildren, we'd have tried to do something about it by now? How many trillions of dollars have been spent to date in response of 9/11? Have we matched the number of deaths yet, from school shootings to 9/11?
  14. 1) Nothing contradictory there. My opinion can differ from the most likely outcome. In this case it does. 2) I don't think he'll ever be the same pitcher, no. That won't stop teams from giving him mlb opportunities to fix himself though. 3) One may be more problematic than the other, sure. My point is not all pitchers are the same after major surgical procedures. 4) Fair enough. But I was going with career threatening in a medical sense. If we're broadening it this far, then yeah, it could limit his opportunities to further his career. 7) That's fine. You should prefer whichever opinions you want. That has nothing to do with my opinion, or that of the poster you initially responded to. This is a message board to share opinions. It's not a clearinghouse for facts. People shouldn't have to somehow be expected to "prove" their opinions here, so long as they are not trying to pass them off as facts.
  15. But that's true regardless of where in the order you bat him.
  16. No, that's why it's called an opinion. Which i made sure to make very clear I was making. And I never claimed it would be career threatening. He'll come back healthy enough to pitch, I'm sure. I just think the performance level will be significantly worse than it was the last couple years.
  17. Most likely outcome? Probably not. I believe he was giving his opinion. I share that opinion. Why? Surgery to the most important finger on his pitching hand. When the surgery was announced I said I didn't think he'd ever be the same pitcher again, as I think he'll struggle to find his feel for the slider. As we're seeing with Lance Lynn (who was almost equally as bad last year, just extremely lucky- hence the lack of offers), some pitchers just aren't the same following major surgery.
  18. I don't think anyone is or would argue against your main point there. Mike is arguing against an arbitrary number, with no thought given to other variables - aside from, he threw x innings last year, so he has to only throw y innings this year. And Romero would have to make 29 MORE starts this year to get to 200 total innings. That ain't happening, obviously.
  19. Marlins are in a full tear down and rebuild. Not sure why they'd have any interest in Sano.
  20. Grandal isn't an average player. He's on pace for 4+ WAR this year, and had 5.1 WAR over the last 2 years. Average for an MLB starter is 2 WAR, not for all players, just for starting players.
  21. Every pitcher in the rotation, except Berrios have been injured. Lynn, Gibson, Romero have all had TJ, Odorizzi has had back injuries. Every arm in baseball is a ticking timebomb. I've yet to see evidence that a specific method of managing innings or pitches or anything else changes that.
  22. The league you're in doesn't need to change where you'd bat him though. You essentially start play under NL rules, so you could bat him anywhere, then double switch later, just as you would in the NL.
  23. Yeah, if demoting Romero is even considered, then the FO is still in building mode, and not in win mode.
