  1. I won't blame them at all. These are all lottery tickets, and I'm of "the more lottery tickets you can accumulate, the higher your odds of hitting one" line of approach. If they are trading Gibson or Berrios or Rosario, then yeah, I'd judge the results, because you should be getting better than lottery tickets in those kinds of deals.
  2. I think Dozier wants to get paid. And I think he still believes he will get paid. So, I think there is a pretty good chance that he'd (foolishly?) turn down a QO. I think the FO plans to QO him, and won't trade him for less than a top 75-ish pick equivalent prospect, which I don't think they'll get, so long story short I don't think he gets moved.
  3. Which numbers in 2017? He had a sparkly ERA, but over 30 innings that's almost meaningless. The rest of his numbers were not good. That said, he absolutely should get an extended shot. Belisle on this team is beyond any kind of defensible at this point.
  4. Opening day payroll was just under $129 million. I'm not sure where you're getting 82+27 adding up to 129. I also can't imagine their ARB players possibly adding up to $40 million.
  5. Rough equivalent from the Twins system? I'll say: Kiriloff Stewart Bechtold Miranda Jay
  6. I said all kinds of shameful things when I was a teenager. Hurtful things regarding women, minorities, disabled people, and people with a different sexual orientation. I didn't say those things because i believed them, I said them because I was trying to fit in with people I desperately wanted to be my friends, and I lacked the courage to say how I really felt. I wasn't 17, i was considerably younger, but that's not my point. I don't mean to make excuses, I said what I said. I'm ashamed of what I said, and I'd apologize sincerely if it ever came up. But I certainly hope that the man I became isn't permanently judged by those things I said as a cowardice 15 year old.
  7. Seth, I think when we focus so much on one team, it's easy to forget that everyone deals with injuries. And those injuries happen to good players on other teams too. People have posted charts in other threads, a weighted injury count for each team, and the objective facts show that the Twins haven't been any more hampered by injuries than most teams. Basing an expectation off of presumed perfect health is fools gold from the start. More likely is that this team just wasn't quite as good as many expected.
  8. I'd guess most starters stats look a lot better if we simply remove all of their bad starts.
  9. Yep, it really is amazing how Trump has mesmerized his followers. He takes them places that would have been totally off limits to conservative voters for anyone else. Disparaging war heroes, cozying up to a Russian dictator, tariffs, etc. There is nowhere these people won't follow him. And that should scare us all. There are actual procedural checks and balances, sure. But, much of our political system is built around the honor system. What if Trump refuses to leave office when his term(s) is over? What if his people are prepared to violently revolt if he's forced to? What if he declares martial law as a means to avoid checks and balances that limit his power? What if he creates a false flag attack to gain support for a lifetime term? These are things I believe are realistically possible with Trump. More so because his supporters would loyal through all of it, and would, IMO, be prepared to violently fight to support him.
  10. Kids do say dumb things. We all say things in small groups that would sound controversial if broadcast to the public at large. But, IMO, that's what you are doing when you post something on social media. You are making a public declaration. It's not the same thing as saying something to an enclosed group. Social media is the average Joe's version of a publicist. So a person does have to be more responsible and measured with what they choose to post. But, he apologized. And yes, I think he should have, and I'm glad he did, and that's good enough for me. It's perfectly reasonable to me that he's a different person, with more perspective now than he was then, as nearly every human is.
  11. But only if he has an option. If he doesn't have an option, then you are either guaranteeing him a spot, even if he's bad, when perhaps they'd prefer to upgrade his spot. Or, they waive him if he's bad, and lose him for nothing when they could have gotten a lottery ticket. If he has an option, then absolutely, he's one of 8 or 9 hopeful competent starters to get through the season. If he's out of options, then he's 1 of 5 rotation spots unless he gets hurt, or waived for nothing. The FO might not be interested in guaranteeing a rotation spot to a replacement level pitcher next year.
  12. Does he have options? If he has an option remaining, then that is probably more valuable than the return they'd get. But perhaps they'd like to upgrade his spot next year. In that case, (if he's out of options) might as well get something for a guy you're not committed to anyway.
  13. The Astros built a WS champion by intentionally tanking. IMO, a team that isn't close to contending and doesn't tank is misguided. Drafting high is a huge advantage in MLB, especially because of how the bonus pool is allotted.
  14. Trading Odorizzi isn't punting 2019. He's got 0.5 bWAR, after posting negative bWAR last year. He's a replaceable back of the rotation starter. Of course that means the return will be minimal as well.
  15. Adrianza can play 3B the rest of the year if need be. Or a random AAAA waiver claim.
  16. Sorry, I misinterpreted your post to allege that he was still considered a hot prospect. Yes, there was a time when he was.
  17. Until Rooker cuts that K rate drastically, I don't consider him a meaningful prospect, no matter how many HR's he hits. I realize I'm in the vast minority, perhaps even alone.
  18. The rough equivalent of Jermaine Palacios, minus a half season worth of team control.
  19. They'll want Santana to start first out of the break though, not fifth. That way he gets 3 starts before the trade deadline.
  20. It doesn't look to me like that check was actually for "two weeks" though. The YTD are all the same as the pay period, so clearly this is the first pay check of the year. The "regular" pay rate says 550.00, so my uneducated guess is that this check was only actually for about 1/3rd of a two week pay period.
  21. Not everyone. I was very vocally supportive of the move, and wish they would have kept him.
  22. Well I've long believed that the Wolves are the worst run organization in all of pro sports, so I guess it won't surprise me if they actually let Butler walk for nothing.
  23. I was responding to someone saying he's fallen down prospect lists. He hasn't.
