  1. Butler turned down the Wolves 4/110 extension offer.
  2. Gordon has actually moved UP in most (perhaps ALL) midseason prospect ranking updates. He moved up from #80 in March, to #65 now on MLB pipeline. I think he's moved up even more dramatically on Baseball America. Not sure about fangraphs, but I think he's moved up there as well. He hasn't fallen down any prospect lists, at least not any I've seen.
  3. There are plenty of other options aside from LoMo and Vargas. Free agent 1B are pretty easy to find.
  4. Kiriloff has about as much chance as passing Lewis as I do.
  5. Unless Dozier heats up significantly, he'll be in no position to turn down a QO. So, no draft pick.
  6. I'm not sure we know to what extent these extreme shifts can have on babip. Some of it is probably luck, but some of the drop is going to be due to increased pop up and fly ball rates, and some is going to be from hitting it into the shift.
  7. 600 PA's is where the option automatically vests. The team can pick up the option regardless, if they want to.
  8. Since TF opened, the Twins have the worst record in MLB.
  9. I might lean Dozier, but not enough to give up a real prospect.
  10. Jonathan Villar has a slightly lower OPS than Dozier, but slightly more WAR. For all intents and purposes, they've been roughly the same player. Not sure Milwaukee would view Dozier as an upgrade.
  11. They are still like 20th in baseball in payroll, I think. So, sure, by their own penny pinching standards, sure they've spent. But compared to where the rest of the league is at right now, they are still trying to get by relatively cheap.
  12. So Trump is okay with willfully destroying public land to protest rich ranchers actually having to pay to use land for grazing, but taking a knee to silently protest for civil rights makes one a "son of a bitch". Not that I'm surprised, of course.
  13. Lottery tickets sometimes hit. There is no shame in amassing as many tickets as you can. Eduardo Escobar was once a lottery ticket that we got for trading Liriano as a rental. What if they'd just said then, ah Liriano won't get you much, maybe some future utility C prospect, might as well not bother trading him?
  14. If the Twins got caught negotiating a contract extension with another team's player, you'd see the biggest sanctions we've ever seen in pro sports, and Falvey and Levine would never work in a baseball FO again.
  15. The better team won't always be as good as GS is right now though. And you need a third star to win a championship. They took a shot, hoping that Wiggins would realize his potential and be that third star, it didn't happen. I applaud them for taking that shot, but I think they also need to be self aware enough to realize that it didn't work, and it's time for a new plan. How do you propose they go about procuring that third star? Or are you just happy with a few years of competent basketball, even without a shot at a title? I'm not disparaging that position, just trying to get clarity on where you're at.
  16. Even with Butler healthy, they still had zero shot at winning a championship. I just don't see how you close that gap, especially with LA leapfrogging them.
  17. I guess it depends what you mean by make things work? If that means fighting for a 4 or 5 seed every year, knowing you're 1 or 2 and done, sure, they can keep the band together. I'm in the championship or bust camp though, and that ain't happening with this group. With no lottery picks, where are you once Butler gets old? Superstars aren't going to come play in Minnesota, not by choice. And with Wiggins awful contract, they likely can't trade for anymore. That leaves lottery picks as the only viable way for this market to get superstars. You don't get lottery picks by staying mediocre. Keeping the band together hoping for mediocrity just delays the inevitable, IMO. I'd at least start now to try to time the end of the rebuild for when GS and LA are finishing their windows, rather than just starting it then.
  18. Yes, the all-star game has become a meaningless joke, unfortunately, IMO. It's 100% pageantry, zero substance. That's fine, if that's what they want is a popularity contest. That obviously appeals to a lot of people, does nothing for me. But under those parameters, there is no such thing as a snub. It's no longer a representation of the best players, it's no longer designed to be. Rosario didn't get snubbed according to what the All-Star game is now. Its purely a popularity contest, and he's not yet popular enough.
  19. If they are wealthy enough that the estate tax affected them, then they can't be doing too bad. It didn't apply for estates under $5.5 million, and that's net taxable assets, not gross.
  20. I'd be aiming for a lot longer than 2-3 years. Golden State isn't slowing down anytime soon, and Lebron signed with LA for 4 years.Lebron + 4 random dudes is still better than anything the Wolves can build. So their absolute ceiling the next 4 years doesn't even include getting to the Conference championship game. I'd go full tank and hope to have a couple young lottery picks to compliment Towns by the time the Wiggins contract expires. And yes, all of that is why the NBA is pretty lame. I think 8 franchises have won more than 90% of all the NBA titles. The rest of the franchises are just a feeder league for those 8 that have a chance to cycle dynasties.
  21. If those descriptions were objective, he'd be a top 30 prospect in all of baseball.
  22. The players are among those already doing the snubbing- they choose the reserves. So players picking more players isn't going to solve the issue of snubs.
  23. But its not insurance against going bankrupt. Who is deciding what is 100% necessary? Outside of trauma, medicine is rarely that black or white. A person may have an issue that is life threatening, but not 100%. Doctors may say, we recommend surgery, but its possible you could do nothing and survive. If it's 80% survival with treatment, and 20% survival without, most people are going to choose treatment. But that likely wouldn't be covered under these terms.
  24. Its not one sided, it's a business decision- for the player as well. He could say no, I won't sign for less than slot, then fall 10 spots and make less money, even at full slot value. It's no different than any other job offer in any other industry. Both sides use their available leverage until they reach an agreement somewhere in the middle. If the team just pocketed that savings, then it might be cheapness. But they don't. Its not about being cheap, the slot values are just guidelines to add up for a total bonus pool, they were never meant to be a rigid allocation amount.
  25. Every organization has to be represented, and no more than two players from any organization. Those types of parameters often lead to snubs.
