  1. I think the opinion on Tonkin is that when you've been a non contending team for 5 straight years you shouldn't wait until the last minute to see what you have in guys like him.
  2. Yeah I think baseball is the one sport where clubhouse chemistry probably does matter a significant amount. The season is 6 months long, if you include spring training these guys probably spend more time together each year than they do with their families.
  3. Well if you are going to wait to be mathematically eliminated every year, it's going to be tough to ever develop guys for the future. Even 90 loss teams are still technically in it until the last 2 or 3 weeks.
  4. No, it doesn't mean that. Look, I know people scoff at the Randy Johnson comps, and I get it he's a HOF, but how many gave up on him? Luckily at least one person didn't because eventually he did figure it out. And it's not like Meyer has never had success. Last year was terrible, though he finished the year strong in AAA. Tonight was beyond terrible. Outside of that he's had stretches of downright dominance in the minors. His mlb sample size is still pretty tiny. There is still time for him to figure it out.
  5. That might very well be true, but I still hope he gets a legit shot as a starter first. I know he's yet to show it yet at the MLB level, but he truly has the stuff to be a true ace. Being that the Twins are never going to get one of those on the open market, and probably don't have another one in their system (Berrios being the closest, but still not as good pure stuff), they need to give him a real, 15 start at the mlb level shot. I know that might be tough to stomach if he's not on, but at this point who cares, the season is LIKELY over.
  6. Yeah he sure was. But, and I know this wasn't his debut, but do you remember May's debut last year? I mean yikes, that was brutal. Glad we didn't give up on him then.
  7. Well I can't speak for everyone but I blame Terry, not Mollie. He should know how the manager is going to use players before he calls them up. Though, I suspect that's a distinction without a difference to you. I'm sorry, Meyer is not a typical pitcher. He's going to have a tough time repeating his delivery with his frame. They knew that when they traded for him. Something was working in AAA. Sure, plenty of guys can be ready anytime, 1 day or 20 days. Meyer is never going to be that guy. That doesn't mean he can't be a mlb pitcher.
  8. Man chief you clearly have something against Meyer. We have a lot of young players getting their feet wet and I don't remember you being this hard on any of the other ones struggles.
  9. Really? Because proven veteran pitchers often need a start or two to get back in a groove after that much time between starts. But if it's true with a prospect he will never be a mlb pitcher?
  10. He can't call up Mollie and say hey if I call up Meyer how will you use him?
  11. For the record I don't blame Molitor. He's got to manage to his style, right or wrong. You can't be someone you aren't. I blame Terry Ryan for a) hiring a guy to manage a rebuilding team without discussing how he'd handle young players. And, calling up Meyer when the whole world could have predicted he'd sit on the bench, just like Kepler and Polanco.
  12. Well how about, and I know this is a crazy idea, leaving him in AAA on his normal rotation, and calling up Pat Dean or Taylor Rogers or Logan Darnell if all you needed was a warm body to sit on the bench waiting for mop up duty?
  13. That might all be true. But, he was clearly doing something very right at AAA this year. I think it's a flat out joke that they yanked him out of a routine that was clearly working for him, for no discernable reason, and made him sit on the bench for 9 days, then threw him out there in a game he probably wasn't expected to pitch in, against a powerful lineup who is clearly swinging the bats well tonight.
  14. I don't think anyone is saying he deserves no blame for how he pitches. But a managers/coaches job is to put players on the best position to succeed. Do you feel they've done that with Meyer over the last 10 days?
  15. Well he's a guy who has issues repeating his delivery who was suddenly shut down for 9 days for no reason whatsoever. I'd have been shocked if he COULD find the strike zone.
  16. I believe Jankowski was a 1st Rd pick.
  17. I agree, just please not for a bullpen arm. Good relievers can be had every year in the off-season and cost nothing but money. I wouldn't even trade a b prospect for a reliever.
  18. Disagree. Most of the time it's just really good babip luck in a very small sample size (1 game).
  19. Was Ramos Terry or Smith? Regardless, maybe not Gordon, but it will be a legit prospect like Gonsalves or Thorpe or someone like that, a borderline top 100 guy.
  20. Sorry I disagree, for 3 reasons. 1 Meyer is a guy who has had trouble repeating his delivery. Shutting him down for 10 days when it seemed he was just figuring it out is huge. 2 He's on the major league roster. So, the Twins have basically been playing with a 24 man roster. 3 He's still a legit prospect. Like Kepler and Polanco, he needs to be playing, somewhere, anywhere, not sitting on the bench every day eating sunflower seeds.
  21. We all know exactly how this is going to end. Terry Ryan is going to trade a legit prospect like nick Gordon or Steven Gonsalves for a proven closer, aka a league average reliever who happens to have experience pitching the 9th inning, it will not be a better pitcher than we could have gotten in the off-season for nothing except money.
  22. Lol, it was almost 40 years ago. I'd say the requisite waiting period on related jokes has more than passed.
