  1. I don't understand how the players is even an option. These players didn't assemble, coach, and evaluate themselves. Blaming the players is like blaming the McDonalds drive through guy because you don't like the taste of their burgers.
  2. If we are still going to use the SSS argument in late May, then why didn't Ryan go after any relief pitchers in the off season? His argument was that he thought one or more of the hard throwing youngsters would be ready very quickly. Getting any of them up here fast enough to justify not adding bullpen arms (#1 off season priority), was going to require trusting a SSS.
  3. I think they usually send them to Ft Myers because, a) the warm weather, and keeps them close to the team facilities.
  4. What did Jorge Polanco see that got him in the witness protection system? Seriously, why is he even on the team? This is absurd, send him back to AAA so he can get some AB's to build his trade value.
  5. If the criteria for promotion is that a player can never have one bad game, then nobody would ever get promoted.
  6. He had a very low k rate, and a very low babip. Aside from the stats, people who see the games posted that he was hitting line drives at people.
  7. Seth, that just isn't true. You (as close as you follow milb) of all people know Kepler was pounding the ball and getting extremely unlucky earlier.
  8. Most years this is probably true. But, I don't have to be a professional chef to know when I'm being served dog food.
  9. To be fair I don't dispute that I don't know, which is why I'm asking not stating. Really I just don't even have the enthusiasm to even care any more at this point either way.
  10. That's kinda my point. After about 10 days into April nobody is going to be 100%. If Buxton needs to be 100% to succeed then we have a big problem. If "annoyance" is enough to keep him out of the lineup, then we have a big problem. Again, I hope it's the club being severely over cautious.
  11. Yes I'm aware, I get them occasionally, it comes with the territory in my profession. Go through my posting history, I'll bet cash you won't find a single post before this thread where I question Buxton's injuries or potential or even performance. In fact I've probably wasted more time than its worth vigorously defending him in ALL of them. Yes they are painful, but if it's debilitating pain for a week, at that age? That points to a much, much more serious issue, IMO or a questionable pain tolerance. Maybe it's the team being over cautious and forcing him to sit out, ok maybe, but that would surprise me given their early statement that it would only be a day or two. To be honest it is a little insulting that people shout down at you if you ask a legitimate question regarding a players ability to play through pain. Disagreement is one thing, sarcastic or insulting comments are unnecessary. Edit: To be clear mike, I'm not referring to your post in that last paragraph, I probably should have quoted one of the others.
  12. I just want to say this entire post is full of excellence, in case anyone just skimmed past it they should really go back and read it.
  13. Nope. Missing a week for back spasms is incredible. It's something to be concerned about, that's not normal, and I stand by my comments.
  14. This is going on 7 days now, with back spasms??? Holy cow, I've always defended his injuries as fluky but maybe this kid is incredibly soft.
  15. Some sharp criticism of Hughes from Brian Murphy. http://www.twincities.com/2016/05/18/brian-murphy-twins-phil-hughes-needs-to-either-pitch-or-rest/ Hughes actually said out loud, “It’s not so much the pitches than it is the innings. It’s getting up and down that many times is when fatigue starts to set in on it.” It must be exhausting standing up, moving down the bench, grabbing water, taking off a jacket and walking to and from the mound every five days. If Hughes’ words do not infuriate fans or make teammates bug-eyed angry, then everybody gets the flaccid team they deserve. Call it bilateral compete weakness. Hughes is supposed to be a horse. The Twins handsomely rewarded him with a massive contract extension in 2014 following his 16-win season. He is 12-15 in 198 innings over 33 subsequent starts. “It’s not like I can just go out there and grind through,” he said. Jack Morris’ head just exploded.
  16. That's illegal in North Carolina, I believe.
  17. Oh there is no doubt that everyone shares some blame.
  18. So all 30 teams pay a hitting coach for no reason but charity? Quite generous.
  19. I'll eat my hat if Mauer walks away from 46 million. I don't care if he had a trillion dollars and converted to Buddhism, people don't walk away from that kind of money. And the Pohlad's aren't going to give him 46 million to retire. We are stuck with him.
  20. Not necessarily true. Define few: (Merriam Webster) 1 : consisting of or amounting to only a small number <one of our few pleasures> 2 : at least some but indeterminately small in number
  21. It's a 4 game series. Im going way over 10.
