  1. He's a negative WAR player this year, and will be 34 next year. I'd have no interest, and I doubt the FO will either. I'd rather resign Escobar.
  2. I don't think that was his point. I think his point is that it would have been nice to see this production from Dozier earlier in the year, when the postseason was still a reasonable goal. Instead he waited until it was too late to make any difference for the Twins.
  3. But he didn't acknowledge any of those things. He chose to only acknowledge the side of the coin that points the finger at the FO. Blaming the FO for selling at 10 games back is just as unreasonable as blaming Santana for his injury timeline. Again, I don't necessarily agree with Tom, because I don't expect a guy to use ration over emotion when talking about his friend, but I can see where Tom is coming from, absolutely.
  4. I'm also not upset by his comments. But, to defend Tom a little, you'll notice that nowhere did Ervin say that if he'd been on the field and performing, the FO might not have been in a situation to sell on his friend Rodney. I think that is where the lack of accountability comes into play. One half of the coin may be that the FO "gave up". The other half of the coin is that through injuries, suspension, and poor play, the key players on the roster put them in that situation. Santana only pointed out the one side of the coin, perhaps conveniently.
  5. I'd be fine with a minor league deal with a May 15th opt out. Not interested at all in a guaranteed mlb spot, no matter how favorable the financial terms are. It's one thing to learn how to pitch with moxy when you lose your stuff over time. It's completely different to try to figure it out when you lose your stuff overnight. I opined that Santana's effectiveness was likely over as we knew it when the surgery was announced. That opinion was of course heartily denounced, but I've seen nothing in the months since to change my mind.
  6. It's not so much about which is ready or which has earned it. They can lose Stewart this winter, they can't lose Thorpe. It's more urgent for them to get some mlb data on Stewart than it is Thorpe, at this point.
  7. I don't think the reason Joe Berger retired is because he wasn't going to have a job.
  8. I'll start with the obligatory. How many five year olds could you take in a fight before they overpower you? Be honest.
  9. Yeah, I think Austin is actually a pretty good comp for what Rooker will probably become.
  10. MLB Pipeline slotted Raley in at #19 in our system, right between Littel and Blankenhorn.
  11. What if he's awful at that position?
  12. So I've been as critical as anyone of the police's use of force. But the movement is forfeiting every ounce of credibility it has built to this point, by continuing to protest the Blevins shooting. The body cam footage shows the definition of a justified shooting. Blevins left them absolutely no other option. This also is going to hurt attracting good cops. If you are interested in becoming a cop, for all the right reasons, and you see what these two are being put through right now, why on earth would you sign up for that?
  13. But coaches watching his AB's in the first half tell them nothing about if he can keep from wearing down in the second half. He clearly already has figured out how to recognize pitches in the first half. His issue is holding up for a full season.
  14. Not sure what the first 2 months of next year are going to tell us. We already know he can crush in the first half. I wouldn't bring him up until he shows he can sustain a respectable performance over a full season. I wouldn't call him up b any sooner than September 2019.
  15. Raley looks like a real prospect to me. Still unlikely to make it, like most prospects, but he looks like more than filler to me. I get you didn't want to give up on this season Chief. But, the FO clearly did, so the returns have to be looked at in that context.
  16. The two prospects from Houston are already slotted into #11 and #14, and one of the prospects from Arizona at #17 (MLB Pipeline rankings). So that's 3 in our top 20- with another at #22. IMO, Alcala has almost as much upside as anyone in our system, aside from Lewis.
  17. Bargain, IMO. He's an elite WR. Numbers haven't matched up, but he's been on teams with other good options, and never had great QB's. #1 in all of football last year in contested catches, and if you extrapolate his stats out to 150 targets (what he'd get on a team without another top WR option), he'd put up 108 catches, 1300 yards, 13 TD per year.
  18. But you not only add 2 wins, you also subtract 2 losses. We'd be 2 games closer to Cleveland had we gone 2-1 against KC, not 1 game.
  19. Austin IS Rooker, if Rooker doesn't get his K rate down significantly.
  20. I'd say he's more comparable to Wander Javier. At least by their (mlb.com) scouting grades.
  21. That would depend how confident the Twins scouts were that he can stick at catcher. There seem to be some serious doubts about his ability to stick back there.
  22. You are forgetting the 5.95 we're still on the hook for Hughes next year. The total is actually 31.7.
