  1. 'The Pohlads suck no less than the average individuals who have accumulated obscene wealth, primarily through the exploitation and pillaging of their communities' is not a point in their favor.
  2. I truly hope Iglesias is too expensive for the Twins. He deserves at least Carlos Santana money.
  3. I would LOVE for you to do a writeup about how the Pohlads are actually generous with their money in regards to the Twins actually. That time they finally won a playoff game and then cut payroll by 20%? That was them really demonstrating how NOT cheap they are.
  4. Cleveland just traded their starting second baseman. And the turned around and traded someone they had just got in return. Chicago just traded their ace. There's no FA window and Trade window. There's the offseason.
  5. I'm sick of fans stating it as if it's just the way things are and no way around it. If you're going to mention it, it must be stated that it's due to the owners that care only about money. If you mention the payroll being cut you should also mention it's because billionaires want a new fancy boat.
  6. I keep hearing from optimistic Twins fans that the Twins have one of the best farm systems. But this is not really true. This WAS true for a minute when all of Brooks Lee, David Festa, and Zebby Matthews were still prospects after the draft. But they've all graduated, even though it's almost certain Matthews starts the year back in AAA. Matthews is interesting because he lost his rookie status due to days on the roster and not playing time, but that's also cause he was very bad in his first go around that he couldn't stay on the field enough. Even if he were eligible he'd be outside the top 100 anyways. As it stands, the Twins have 1 incredible prospect and two very good, intriguing prospects. And then of course plenty of prospects outside the top 100, as well as Lee and Festa who are going to be leaned on heavily this season (and would be in the top 100 if they were still prospects). There is young talent but this talking point folks have adopted that the Twins have one of the best farm systems needs to go away. It's perfectly fine and good even. But not standing out in any real way.
  7. I agree. But we also don't have to pretend the people doing the work in the Twins Organization are good at it either.

No chance in hell he would go to Minnesota. If he wants mid market, he's going to San Diego. If he wants large market and money, he's going to the Mets. Then there's the Dodgers.
  9. Actually surprised they didn't receive more, but Cleveland shows what a good proactive front office looks like. 3.0 WAR player locked up for many years on a $100+ mil contract? Doesn't matter if it doesn't fit the plans. Gotta constantly try to improve the team, not sit back and hope everything magically improves.
  10. You don't have to convince me that the Twins decision makers are all incredibly stupid. I'd have them spend more money too, but we all know they don't care to do so. Brooks Lee currently projects to 2.2 WAR. Makes sense. Seems to be pretty average, but competent enough to hold the position. Correa doesn't need to be limited to 85 games to be a 3.5 WAR player. In fact we saw him play 135 as a 1.5 WAR player just a year ago. He very well COULD be a 5 WAR player next season, absolutely. He could ALSO be a 2.0 WAR player. Especially given his uncertain health.
  11. That wasn't on the current contract, hence why it wasn't included. Good for him that he was really good more than 2 years ago. Thankfully we all know players never age or deteriorate and Carlos is, and will forever remain, as healthy as can be. And that's really cool that he was "worth" 33.3 million last season. But that is completely ignoring any individual teams circumstances. Would he have been worth that to the A's? The Rays? I don't believe he's overpaid. I think his contract is a pretty fair one and I've said so multiple times. I just don't think it's particularly valuable for a team that's single biggest concern is operating income. They have a player that projects as about a 2-2.5 WAR SS on their roster as we speak. Does shedding 37 million from their payroll and taking a 1-1.5 projected loss in WAR really hurt the team that much?
  12. He agreed to deals with San Francisco and New York before they blew up (due to his health) and he cowered back to Minnesota.
  13. Payroll flexibility, versus no payroll flexibility. One gives you a fighting chance to make moves, the other is handcuffing you to a man you've paid almost 70 million on his current contract, for a total of 5.1 bWAR. The penny pinching Twins can't afford to pay $37 million to a player they hope can provide a 3.5 - 4 WAR season on a mediocre team.
  14. Aim for 82 wins and hope you get lucky. That's the Twins Way.
  15. Honestly. This is even further positioning the Mets as THE team in NYC. I'd argue that this was the case last season as well, but this is just driving it home. Cohen sees that $7.5B valuation of the Yankees and knows there's no reason his measly $2.4B Mets can't match them. This contract does a lot in helping bridge that divide. Gotta win the World Series to truly make it happen. We'll see.
  16. The Atlanta Braves were such fools to move John Smoltz back to the starting rotation. He was so dominant when he came back from injury as a reliever. Arguably the best reliever in all of baseball. And he was there for four seasons, there's no guarantee he could even stretch out that long, especially since he's older. I just don't see why they would mess with a 96 win team by doing this...
  17. Cool. The Twins look like a 76-82 win team that can't actually compete and with no real chance to add pieces to improve. I mean...even the White Sox fans can say this. You don't build a mediocre team and then cross your fingers that you get every single lucky break.
  18. Do you think the path to a better record is losing their RF, 1B, and then running it back? Sorry, but Carlos Correa doesn't fit into a cheap ass organization.
  19. Standing pat is waving the white flag. This team is currently bad and the ownership's refusal to invest in the team means it can't get better without creativity.
  20. Presumably Brooks Lee. Could bring in someone like Jose Iglesias too.
  21. Have to. Since the pohlads are so cheap, they never should have signed the contract in the first place. Don't expect much in return either. There's very little surplus value in that deal.
  22. Happy to cheer for an underdog story. But you'll have to excuse me for not buying into billionaires excuses of not spending money because they can't afford it. Lose 100 million like Steve if you want to go for it. What the hell does it matter?
  23. Cohen sees the Yankees valuation 5 billion higher than the Mets and rightfully (imo) believes there's no reason that gap can't be closed. Spending 750 million to close a 5 billion valuation gap is good business. The Mets are not second fiddle to the Yankees in NYC. In the suburbs, nationwide, in hat sales to people that don't know what the NY even stands for, sure, but the Mets can bridge that gap too.
  24. "It merely proves that the surplus value on Correa's deal is considerable, even in the wake of a second straight season marred by plantar fasciitis." And this is a very dubious claim. Correa is no Soto, obviously, but comparing him to the recently signed SS Adames seems more appropriate. They both have 10.4 bWAR in their last 3 seasons. Adames is one year younger, so the 7 years, $182M isn't quite apples to Correa's 4-$133M but let's take: Adames 6-156 Correa 4-133 Honestly there doesn't seem to be much, if any, surplus value there. The risk is manageable for a large club but to claim its a steal is just foolish.
