  1. A better view of "success" for a bullpen is WPA. The Twins were 19th in baseball with the Guardians and Brewers clear best in their leagues. Caveat with WPA is it isn't predictive like FIP tries to be. But it's IMO the best descriptive stat for relievers.
  2. That's one of those tidbits that means nothing. Especially seeing how 20 years ago the world series winners had just been bought two years prior.
  3. Are there? Or could it just a negotiation tactic? 'Oh, boy. We're getting so many callers on this baby. Tell you what, I can let it go for 1.6, but just because you seem like a nice guy.'
  4. All very fair. I'm mistaken, though we can argue how much all those teams have improved. I haven't really dug into anyone, but that comment that the Tigers have done nothing was particularly egregious.
  5. Steve Cohen is knowingly operating at a large loss. But I doubt he cares when the value of the Mets is exceeding those losses by significant margins. That's the dream owner for any sports fan.
  6. Yeah, I guess I should restate, I think it would be WISE for a new owner to fire him. Not that they will.
  7. I don't know about that. Remind me, how many ALCS appearances have the Twins had since 1992? 95 win seasons? Who can argue with those results? He's built...um...well...
  8. I don't know if I agree with that...but to add to this, the Twins Cities are a very good market. The Pohlads have spread this propaganda that it's a small, undesirable market since 2000 when the patriarch was trying to kill the franchise. And propaganda works. There's a good chance the incoming owner cans him (and for good cause).
  9. Remember when he went to the front office with a list of names that could help out the Twins at the trade deadline? I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in that meeting.
  10. I always thought Bill was an academy award winner for 12 Years A Slave, but I guess only the primary production company gets that designation? Either way, co-finacing that had to have made that company a pretty good return.
  11. I fear you missed my allusion.
  12. I don't care for the rich jerk that loves to put his name on other people's work, found by a jury of his piers to have sexually assaulted women. You'll find I'm consistent in that...
  13. I see that I unknowingly foreshadowed the next in the series lol
  14. Honestly, I don't get the Baldelli defenders on this site. We all mostly agree managers don't really have THAT big an impact. But we also know he's overseen multiple late season meltdowns and holds a 3-8 post season record. And he pinch hit Margot HOW many times last season? He's completely unremarkable.
  15. I'll stop when the statue is removed.
  16. Great point. I think we should refrain from discussing Harmon Killebrew as well. Talking about OLD Twins on a Twins website? No thank you. Your time is done, Joe Mauer.
  17. What are you talking about? The Tigers are the only team in the AL Central that HAVE done anything to improve. Not to mention they were already better than the Twins and lost basically no one in the off-season.
  18. Never read the man's work. And I'm guessing neither have you. But he seems smart based on this. What does the long time owner of the Twins have to do with the Twins? Idk man, you got me. Bill directed a pretty decent Biopic, so that's cool. You'll not see me defending their moral character. They, like the loser pohlad family, and many other billionaires, inherited their businesses from their daddy. No evidence they're smart or special. All these ruling class idiots are no better or smarter than anyone on this website. Even the richest man in the world has proven he's actually an evil idiot. But the one brother likes baseball, so hopefully he just blows it on that instead of some stupid Superyacht.
  19. Won't someone PLEASE think of the Billionaires that amassed their wealth through the exploitation of others?
  20. It was exclusively fans playing Armchair GM, trying to find a way to clear salary. I don't think it'd be a bad idea, but that's because I am on the record of thinking its best to effectively punt this season. And a backup catcher isn't going to have any value at the trade deadline.
  21. Agree to disagree then. We just philosophically don't agree with the risks or rewards.
  22. That's like saying eating sand is much better than drinking bleach. Technically true.
  23. Good thing no one said that. Trying to portray the proletariat's righteous anger of their generations long exploitation by those with all the power as "classism" is...a choice.
  24. Agreed, you obviously don't ASSUME Jax would be a #2 starter. I'm talking about potential upside. We've seen it many times over across the league: Reynaldo Lopez - struggled as a starter initially, became a reliever where he honed his stufff and then became a very good starter. Seth Lugo - struggled as a starter initially, became a reliever where he honed his stuff and then became a very good starter. Crochet is arguably the best starter in baseball and didn't start until last season, pretty similar career path to Johan Santana tbh. Etc, etc. And there are failures of course. Jordan Hicks struggled as a starter when they tried this experiment and ended up back in the bullpen by the end of the season. He struggled there too, but Jordan Hicks was never that good to begin with. This is why I think the Mets attempt to do this with Clay Holmes is a bit foolish but you could say that about Lugo too. Another failure was AJ Puk. They tried him in the rotation and he didn't take to it. So they put him back in the bullpen and he was as good as ever. So, what's the real risk of potentially discovering a #2 starter and placating one of your better player's desires? Yes, increased injury risk is there, but other than that, I see no downside at all.
