  1. My foot is decidedly not in my mouth, but I think you should check your own: That implies 60% owners and 40% players, 100% of the time. I don't believe that's actually true. This reddit post breaks down why this Salary/Revenue comparison between leagues doesn't quite work apples to apples. I see flaws in the analysis, but the takeaway is...there are a lot of factors in play and at worst it's hard to argue that MLB players are receiving less of the revenue than NFL players, for example. There is literally no reason for MLBPA to give in to ownership requests for a salary cap. None at all.
  2. Give me evidence that isn't completely emotionally based that the sport is struggling. Or, as I was responding to, "on life support".
  3. I feel like you really, really miss the point. I admit I put zero thought into who was in each of those games, but mostly because it's irrelevant. No one's talking about the NBA being on life support because that would be ridiculous. Even though I find the sport unwatchable because of how it's a glorified 3 point contest. But if MLB is able to outdraw, or even comparably draw, eyes to it's product, how can anyone claim it's on life support? And that's just one point I used to paint this existential threat to MLB as overblown. I'm headed to the ballpark here shortly with about 42,000 of my closest friends to see a 22 year old phenom make his MLB debut. Some guy just yelled out of his truck "Lets Go Mets" at me. You'll have to excuse me if I'm not buying the narrative that MLB is on life support because the Pohlads only received $400 Million by selling off some of their investment property instead of $500 Million.
  4. Why do a bunch of baseball fans think the game is on life support? Viewership has changed and the NFL is a way more dominant king than ever, but the sport of baseball is still very healthy. It will never recover it's cultural height in the 1920s-1970s, but attendance is strong, and last year's World Series was seen by more than the NBA Finals. Seems like nothing more than ownership propaganda that you're spreading.
  5. Completely independent of my Mets fandom. I'll ALWAYS be in favor of labor, never with the owners trying to exploit labor. Anyone cheering for a salary cap should just skip a step and buy a "Pohald $$" jersey.
  6. Remember, any potential labor stoppage is the OWNERS fault, not the players. A bunch of idiots forgot this back in 1994.
  7. Who cares? It's literally true though? I understand you don't like this fact. But that doesn't mean it's any less true.
  8. Just because you're unable to connect the dots doesn't make it any less true. Oh. So we don't care that they've built a perennial contender? Seems like you're cheering for them to fail so that you can point and say "see, they aren't ACTUALLY good because they have a small payroll".
  9. This is why I call you a duped fan spreading propaganda for the owners. You might be completely unaware but all the major leagues target a small minority in revenue sharing ~49%, although if I'm not mistaken, due to the unique nature of signup bonuses, et al, this figure in MLB is more like 55%. So...40% is, frankly, a terrible target that would only be sought by ownership reps.
  10. Do you think the Twins aren't competing because of their market size? Are the Brewers not competing because of their market size? Terrible argument. To the trash with it.
  11. There already exists regulations in place that do this. In order to hire a mid-high tier reliever in the offseason, the Twins would have to pay about $10M to that player. The Dodgers or Mets, due their luxury tax situation would have to pay about $20M in order to acquire that same player, the player getting $10M and another $10M going to the rest of the players through the funding of their programs and remaining totals going to the rest of the league. If a salary cap existed, there's friction league wide in those salaries, and that pitcher now might only get $7.5M. So, tell me again, why are we trying to save the billionaires money?
  12. What exactly does a salary cap fix that a luxury cap doesn't do, which is already in place and I think will/should be even more aggressive? Salary caps, just in their theory, are very obviously not a wonderful thing. Imagine there being an industry imposed salary cap in your profession and try to explain that as a wonderful thing.
  13. OK, and that's basically my argument. Why would we need to institute an anti-player pro-owner restriction on the sport? Just cheering for a salary cap that fixes nothing but helps the owners protect their investment. Wooooo!
  14. The Milwaukee Brewers are the best team in baseball right now after winning 90+ games the two seasons prior. What did they spend on payroll this year? There have been 19 different teams in the World Series the last two decades. The exact same as the kings of parity the NFL. You're cheering for the Owners to be able to limit how much they have to spend on payroll, and somehow unaware that you're spreading the owners propaganda for them. Your frustration is not with the lack of a salary cap. Your frustration is with ****** owners that will not become good owners when they're told other teams aren't able to spend as much money in certain ways. This is no less ridiculous in thinking than cheering for tax cuts for the billionaires so that it can trickle down to you.
  15. They're terrible businesspeople. This is known. But there will not be a salary cap. And fans cheering for a salary cap are massive weirdos, indirectly cheering for the Pohlads.
  16. What do you mean by this? Thanks to the ownership groups, teams like the Pirates and Twins don't have to put in any effort to make money with their investment. They get a nice $200 million check at the start of the season just by existing. It was dealt with. It was proposed by the owners and the players told them to go **** themselves. If they propose it again, they'll get the same answer.
  17. Correct. Gallo could play defense and was therefore a much more valuable player in his career.
  18. I'm in this weird position. I was one of the most negative people on the 2024-2025 Twins here at TD (constantly being right sucks!) but I'm also seemingly one of the most optimistic people as it relates to the near future of the franchise. This team could be very good in 2027 IF the right decisions are made leading into it. Falvey WILL trade away at least one of Lopez or Ryan, and he is 100% right to do so. Anyone fighting this is grasping onto a foolish idea that this team can turn around and be a contender in 2026. That isn't happening. A window closed on the Minnesota Twins earlier than we all would have liked, but the next window isn't necessarily that far away. Nick was very predictably wrong about this last Twins team, and his lack of optimism in the future is similarly misguided. Let's Go (2027) Twins!
  19. Fun Fact: The Minnesota Twins bullpen has performed better than the 5 bullpen arms that were sent away. 5 former Twins: 1.43 WHIP 4.95 ERA Twins Current: 1.35 WHIP 3.60 ERA
  20. Kody Clemens has hit .187 / .252 / .369 in his last 219 PAs. He is a career .659 OPS guy for a reason.
  21. Not that I'm advocating for his longterm spot on the 40 man roster, but Ryan Fitzgerald is a more valuable player than someone like Austin Martin, someone that will likely hit better than him but whose inability to competently play the field makes him pretty useless as a utility player.
  22. Have you never read hyperbole before? Often times people will say or write things in an exaggerated way in order to make a point. It's a very common rhetorical device.
  23. I agree, and I'm made even more cautious by the fact others here seem to think he's not good enough to play 2B. If he can't play 2B, that leaves only LF or 1B for him. And the simple fact is I'm not sure he's a good enough hitter to be all that valuable as a 1B.
  24. I thought Jeffers was going to be put on the trading block if he declines an extension, but now with Adley Rutschman being made available I can't imagine there's much of a market for Jeffers left.
  25. Next year's Twins have very little chance at being a competitive team. Roden should just be written in as the everyday LF and let him sink or swim. As soon as May, Walker Jenkins could be knocking on the door, but he can play in RF if and when he's ready. God knows Wallner doesn't help the team playing out there. As for Larnach and Martin, they should never start a game in the OF the remainder of their MLB careers.
