Lot of people really upset at me pointing a baseball player refusing to leave a bad franchise that won't compete any sooner than 2027 might not be all that interested in winning. I know fans like to think every player has a championship at the forefront of their mind. But that's clearly not the case with Buxton. He could have been a Philadelphia Philly or a New York Met and increased those odds tenfold if that's actually what motivated him.

Quite frankly, I don't think you understand why this team sucks. You seem to be under the impression this team sucks because they hired Ty France. Not that they hired Ty France because this team sucked. If France wasn't hired maybe Miranda miraculously turns into Pujols! They didn't hire Harrison Bader because they have in it for their younger internal outfielders and refuse to let them develop. They hired Bader because they understood betting on Keirsey and/or Martin was a BAD bet. Even in the event one of them turned a corner and become a legitimate major leaguer (Martin maybe right now?) they also understand depth is greatly important and lo and behold, Marin was injured half the year. They hired Danny Coulombe not because they refused to give Funderburk any chance, but because they understand that Funderburk isn't quite up to the task to be the primary left handed reliever on a roster they hoped might compete for the division. If hiring a veteran like IFK would be your breaking point, I simply don't believe that you actually do understand MLB roster rules and construction strategies, even though you clearly seem to. Hiring a veteran middle infielder on a rebuilding team with ample 40 and 26 man space is exactly what a well run MLB team would do, regardless of how many pre arb guys you count each week.

Why do you constantly engage in conversations you are unwilling to actually have? This is a pretty big thing not to care about if you're going to rally against signing ANY veterans. Instead you sit on this site and just complain about something we literally all agree on, yes the Twins have been pretty bad at developing Major League talent.

Actions speak louder than words. He was asked if he wanted to move to a winning team just 6 weeks ago, and he said no. Clearly he doesn't value winning more than loyalty to the Twins (which I hope is minimal), stability, or sticking around Minnesota, and honestly, there's nothing wrong with that. Him NOW saying he wants to win is just newspaper fodder.

If he didn't waive it this year, he's never going to. This was the perfect chance for him to get traded to, and be a key figure on, a World Series contender (or the Mets) yet he firmly rejected any chance of that happening.

Fun little followup just for your tracking purposes that could spark some debate. A player like Pete Alonso, brought up through the system, hit free agency, but then stayed around. Would your tracking designate that as FA player or an internal player? This then leads to a player like Buxton who signed an extension before ever reaching FA. I think that's completely rational to count as internally produced. Anyways, just looking at the Mets, they're about 50-50 on Internal/External WAR, helping explain why their big spending ways haven't been able to produce anything more than a decent, but not great, team this season.

This is an American problem in 2025. We live in post-truth society with the very obvious political ramifications. When these types of people are called out for just saying ****, they never ever apologize, never reflect on why they're constantly proven wrong, never take any accountability. They just repeat their post-truth "reality" and expect you to fall in line.

If he wanted to win, he would have left in July. He doesn't care about winning, and that's fine.

Yesterday I called comments like this stupid and uninformed, and this remains true. Name a single young, deserving Twins player that hasn't received sufficient playing time thanks to the presence of a veteran. Instead of just repeating stupid talking points thrown around constantly here, try actually supporting your comments.
-
Nah. The stupid comments you come across on this site are within the normal bounds of wrong. Especially when you remember at the same time literally 40% of this country are essentially in a cult supporting a fascist and Jeffrey Epstein's best friend. This is the fun reprieve from that ****ed up reality.

What the Heck Happened to José Miranda?
NYCTK replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If I insist on being wrong at all times I might suggest it's because the guy playing first base wasn't being given a chance to play first base. -
I wouldn't say I'm enthusiastic about Roden, in fact I said he'll probably suck too. But he's been better than Martin at every level up until about 2 weeks ago when Martin started to actually do something with his many opportunities, and Roden is a year younger. Martin has been nigh unplayable in the OF until very recently apparently (not watching so I can't say for sure) but I'd bet a lot of money on Roden as a defender over Martin going forward. Martin was so bad last year he was somehow undeserving of playing ahead of Manuel Margot. But regardless, my criticism is of someone saying they'd be fine with Martin or Fedko but suspected Twins would get STUCK with Roden. Which is just an uneducated comment. Especially since he has options (as do the others!) and the Twins aren't stuck with any of them.
-
The hatred of Roden on this website is really quite sad. It's completely irrational and driven by hatred of the trade that brought him here way more than him as a player. No denying he really, REALLY struggled in his 150 major league PAs, 40 with the Twins. But anyone that would choose Fedko or Martin over Roden is just being ridiculous. Odds are all 3 suck next year, but Roden is easily the best bet of the three. UNLESS you think Martin has truly turned a corner and is now a reliable OF. I don't buy that at all, so the choice is clear to me.

So Taylor and Solano, who started regularly for the Twins, weren't good enough to start regularly for any team, despite the team that they started regularly for going to the playoffs quite comfortably... Huh? This thinking is the same stupidity that had people upset about the Bader signing. No one is saying the Twins should hire all vets to fill out their roster and block their young players, but the Twins don't actually have a history of doing that, despite what the uninformed rubes here often cry about. I literally can't think of a single young player that wasn't given a proper chance to play on the Minnesota Twins this decade thanks to a veteran being signed. Manuel Margot is the closest example and the player he was "blocking" was DaShawn Keirsey, so, yeah.

Everyone should DH at all time clearly. Your opinion is bad. Yeah, the guy the Twins started in the playoffs at 1B wasn't getting a chance to play 1B. That surely makes sense if you don't think about it at all. -
What the Heck Happened to José Miranda?
NYCTK replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nothing "happened". He's just another in a long line of decent but ultimately mediocre baseball players that fans raised their expectations too high for. Even last year, as a bat only player, he was a completely unremarkable hitter. A wOBA of 0.328 and an xwOBA of 0.306? His collapse is not at all unexpected. -
It wasn't necessarily the worst idea to let Gray walk, but the Twins also lost a lot of innings in Maeda and Pagan, and even Keuchel to some degree, that weren't properly replaced. That's 400 quality innings that just disappeared with no plan to replicate, outside of more innings to Simeon Woods Richardson, which was never going to work out well.
-
If the improved defense is real and not just a blip, he's deserving of a roster spot. I'm not particularly hopeful that it's real improvement, but especially with an option year remaining, Austin Martin should be pretty safe on the Twins 40 man roster. Interesting to see Martin has been able to get a lot better jumps on the ball this season in comparison to last season, and even compared to other OF familiar to recent Twins fans: OF ft/sec Buxton 35.1 Taylor 34.9 Bader 34.4 Martin 34.3 Outman 33.9 Roden 33.4 Castro 32.3 Clemens 32.2 Kepler 31.9 Keirsey 31.6 Larnach 31.3 Wallner 30.7 I tend to believe this is more of a small sample anomaly and not an actual indicator of skill, but props to him for showing some evidence of improvement.
-
I'd say it's more due to Keirsey's lack or major league talent. But sure, let's just blame the coach like a know nothing parent.

You seem to not fully grasp just how awful DaShawn has been in his opportunities. And there's LITERALLY no reason to think he'll ever get any better. You can go back to all of my comments making fun of people for thinking Keirsey could do the same job as Bader for further evidence why this was very obviously wrong. He has a 109 RC+ in AAA and you seem to think as though that is meaningful, whereas anyone that actually knows baseball knows that is pretty mediocre and not indicative of someone that will hit in the majors at all. It's the exact same as Gilberto Celestino actually. Should the Twins call up Celestino and give him another chance? He's still 2 years younger than Keirsey and only got 400 PAs.
