The Pohlads May Still Be Planning to Sell the Twins
NYCTK replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What exactly does a salary cap fix that a luxury cap doesn't do, which is already in place and I think will/should be even more aggressive? Salary caps, just in their theory, are very obviously not a wonderful thing. Imagine there being an industry imposed salary cap in your profession and try to explain that as a wonderful thing. -

OK, and that's basically my argument. Why would we need to institute an anti-player pro-owner restriction on the sport? Just cheering for a salary cap that fixes nothing but helps the owners protect their investment. Wooooo! -
The Pohlads May Still Be Planning to Sell the Twins
NYCTK replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Milwaukee Brewers are the best team in baseball right now after winning 90+ games the two seasons prior. What did they spend on payroll this year? There have been 19 different teams in the World Series the last two decades. The exact same as the kings of parity the NFL. You're cheering for the Owners to be able to limit how much they have to spend on payroll, and somehow unaware that you're spreading the owners propaganda for them. Your frustration is not with the lack of a salary cap. Your frustration is with ****** owners that will not become good owners when they're told other teams aren't able to spend as much money in certain ways. This is no less ridiculous in thinking than cheering for tax cuts for the billionaires so that it can trickle down to you. -

They're terrible businesspeople. This is known. But there will not be a salary cap. And fans cheering for a salary cap are massive weirdos, indirectly cheering for the Pohlads. -

What do you mean by this? Thanks to the ownership groups, teams like the Pirates and Twins don't have to put in any effort to make money with their investment. They get a nice $200 million check at the start of the season just by existing. It was dealt with. It was proposed by the owners and the players told them to go **** themselves. If they propose it again, they'll get the same answer. -
I'm in this weird position. I was one of the most negative people on the 2024-2025 Twins here at TD (constantly being right sucks!) but I'm also seemingly one of the most optimistic people as it relates to the near future of the franchise. This team could be very good in 2027 IF the right decisions are made leading into it. Falvey WILL trade away at least one of Lopez or Ryan, and he is 100% right to do so. Anyone fighting this is grasping onto a foolish idea that this team can turn around and be a contender in 2026. That isn't happening. A window closed on the Minnesota Twins earlier than we all would have liked, but the next window isn't necessarily that far away. Nick was very predictably wrong about this last Twins team, and his lack of optimism in the future is similarly misguided. Let's Go (2027) Twins!

Predicting the Minnesota Twins Lineup One Year From Now
NYCTK replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kody Clemens has hit .187 / .252 / .369 in his last 219 PAs. He is a career .659 OPS guy for a reason.- 117 replies

Week in Review: From Bad to Worst
NYCTK replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree, and I'm made even more cautious by the fact others here seem to think he's not good enough to play 2B. If he can't play 2B, that leaves only LF or 1B for him. And the simple fact is I'm not sure he's a good enough hitter to be all that valuable as a 1B.- 108 replies

I thought Jeffers was going to be put on the trading block if he declines an extension, but now with Adley Rutschman being made available I can't imagine there's much of a market for Jeffers left.- 108 replies

Next year's Twins have very little chance at being a competitive team. Roden should just be written in as the everyday LF and let him sink or swim. As soon as May, Walker Jenkins could be knocking on the door, but he can play in RF if and when he's ready. God knows Wallner doesn't help the team playing out there. As for Larnach and Martin, they should never start a game in the OF the remainder of their MLB careers.

If he wasn't from Minnesota there wouldn't be this irrational level of anger for shipping out a failed starter with a career WHIP higher over 1.3 and a AAA ERA over 4. Twins fans need to get over the fact that they traded away a failed starter for a very good SP prospet and a stopgap LF. Louie Varland isn't that great. He's fine and extremely replaceable.

Week in Review: From Bad to Worst
NYCTK replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Fans are so funny man. Fedko is close, but Roden, who is both younger and better, is dead weight. Last year fans speculated there were issues between Lewis and Correa. Maybe Lewis is the clubhouse cancer.- 108 replies

Competitive in the AL Central perhaps, but not in the AL at large. But that requires holding onto both Ryan and Lopez and is selling out the future in order to be a mediocre team in 2026. That sort of shortsightedness is why the Twins sucked so much these last couple seasons. It's better to just absolutely suck in 2026, fully stock those cupboards, and then go from there.

Yes. 100%. The only trade the Pohalds seemingly had ANY input on was Correa, and that makes sense because it required a significant financial commitment from the Twins going forward. This DOES NOT mean, like so many seem to speculate, that the trade was forced by the Pohlads.

The Twins aren't terrible for salary cap reasons. They're bad because of gross mismanagement. How does a salary cap change that? There will not be a salary cap come 2028, and there shouldn't be a salary cap. Fans that clamor for one are just doing the billionaire owners job for them.

They are almost certainly going to trade one of Ryan and Lopez in the off-season, and it will be the right decision. Just like the trade deadline sell off was the right decision. If they were well managed, they won't try to hard to compete in 2026. They'll patch holes with one year vets and let the young players figure things out at the major league level, all building towards 2027 with the small possibility of relevancy in 2026.

Twins now 4.5 games "behind" the Pirates. 3rd is probably the lowest they fall in the draft order odds. I don't think they're actually worse than the Pirates.

Athletics (Perkins) vs Twins (Urena): 8/21/25, 12:10pm
NYCTK replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Only a game "behind" the A's in the tank standings. Go As! -
Something is clearly wrong with his approach. In high leverage situations he's hitting into a IF popup a full quarter of the time. That's 2x as high as it should be given his profile. He's making an effort to lift the ball, and doing a terrible job.

I can guarantee you that they are NOT giving up on Rojas as a starter at the age of 23 because of 4 rough AAA starts. I think it's probably right that he's not ready for AAA quite yet. But he'll spend time in AAA next year, and then go from there.
