  1. It's ironic since I'm one that heavily advocated for Jax to get another attempt in the rotation, but I just don't think Varland is good enough to be a SP. He's inferior to Jax in every way, both as a prospect and a reliever. And Jax actually took big steps forward after going to Driveline. Varland hasn't really improved, just able to better utilize his skills in short stints. I agree, a reliever you can reliably beat up on is valuable. But I'd rather have the potential SP ace, especially in the middle of a rebuild, fully aware that prospect might fizzle out completely and offer negative value.
  2. Yet again this site refuses to give my boy Harrison Bader proper credit. SMDH I must not understand what you're saying. The upside of Louis Varland is essentially what Varland was last year, just in higher leverage. So, I'm guessing you mean that Rojas's upside is Joe Ryan? I think the low end he's still a potential full on bust. But I still think that's a pretty fair trade for a 3rd tier reliever. In two years we might look back with annoyance, but trading away a reliever, ie a failed starter, is never really going to kill a team down the road.
  3. I really can't pretend to care to implement more socialist safety nets for the blood sucking billionaires until we have socialized healthcare at a bare minimum. I am and will always be pro union so I want to see MLBPA get whatever they want.
  4. If this is the end of his Twins career, he went out on top...if you are looking at a list of worst hitters in franchise history. DaShawn is the only non-pitcher with over 100 PAs and a sub 0 wRC+. But he still made the show and can be proud of that for the rest of his life.
  5. Even if you know what position you're drafting it'd be absolutely malpractice to make moves this offseason before your desired target is even in the organization, much less ready for the major leagues.
  6. Nah, I can't imagine the Twins letting the draft change their decision making this offseason. That'd be incredibly poor management. And, as we know, a player drafted as a SS may soon be a CF or a 3B, so letting a position of a drafted player affect your decision making at the major league level is especially poor.
  7. Mets will be all in on Skubal. They will be very interested in Ryan, but nowhere near all in. Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat, maybe Ryan Clifford or Mark Vientos for offensive punch, but these talks will happen after Skubal is either extended or traded (or Tigers announce nothing is happening).
  8. Gotta wait for the dust to settle with Skubal before anything happens with either of Lopez or Ryan. Teams aren't going to offer up 3 top 5 prospects to the Twins if those assets could be used to secure a legitimate ace.
  9. Why would I care to see Torii Hunter in the Hall of Fame? The Twins already have a CF in the HOF that most other fans suggest wasn't really worthy in Kirby Puckett. Do Twins fans really want two? And however you feel about Kirby Puckett's Hall of Fame credentials - myself thinking he needs a lot of extra credit for his playoff heroics in order to justify his inclusion - Hunter's own resume is nowhere near Kirbys. I'll instead be hoping Jones and Beltran get voted in.
  10. I just wanna remind people, you can follow a second team. The only people that would care are weirdos. Find an NL team you like or respect. You can just buy a baseball cap for, like, the Philadelphia Phillies for example, and no one will ask for your fan identification card or anything. Boom, now the failings of the Minnesota Twins are more comical than they are heart breaking, a sideshow of pure incompetence that offers a view of the sport you love, but a view that reminds you that even the professionals in charge of mlb franchises can be incredibly stupid people. Not that we need a reminder that leaders in this day and age may not be very smart or competent. Being a fan of two different teams is actually very freeing. I don't have to lie and convince myself that maybe the Twins might surprise people, and more willing to accept the team is terrible and need to complete a legitimate rebuild.
  11. Wallner would LOVE to replicate Joey Gallo's career. Twins fans need to have object permanence. Just because a player was bad for the Twins doesn't mean that player was bad forever. 10 Seasons, 200 HR and 15 WAR, that's a very good baseball player and I don't anticipate Wallner to come close to those numbers.
  12. Well then he's already at fault for either forcing a real budget or making one up for his organization, that he runs, as president. I get everyone hates the pohlads and I'm right there with you, but why are people allowing Falvey to abdicate any responsibility?
  13. Doesn't really. But I guess I'm being hopeful that it'd be a signal. If they sell neither of Ryan or Lopez nor do they upgrade at 1B I'll be laughing and calling for a further boycott of the organization.
  14. If I was the president of a $300-400 million company with an absent board of directors I'd either resign or, more likely, make decisions without the larger oversight in the best interest of the organization and force their hands. If Falvey wants to blame ownership he's a loser that is fit for the job specifically because he's a lackey of ownership. And he therefore deserves the blame.
  15. OK. So we agree. The Pohlads suck but Falveys failures to improve the team in the short or long term would be his own fault, not the ownership.
  16. Why are you under the impression that the President of the Twins has no idea what the budget might be in 2026? Are we just infantizling everyone in the organization out of Pohlad spite? They suck, but the organization sucks because they've also hired a bunch of people that suck. People like Falvey.
  17. I don't think a front office standing pat would at all be an indictment of the ownership. If Falvey neither makes moves to improve nor sells assets to improve in the future, that's an indictment of him alone.
  18. If his last name wasn't Clemens I'm not convinced he would have ever made the bigs. Counting on a sub 700 ops at first base is kind of hilarious. This season is going to be rough, but let's all keep in mind they're not even trying to compete this year in the hopes of contending in future years.
  19. Why should the 630 OPS guy get promoted out of the bottom of the lineup? Because you suspect he's an egotistical headcase that needs to handled like a delicate flower? I'm at the point where I want the Twins to trade him. Not because I think he's going to bring much back in value, but because I'm fully out on him as a fan and I would rather he not be on the team I support. Complaining about being asked to play 2B and then complaining how exhausted he was at the end of the 2024 season buried him in my mind. I just can't pretend as if this is someone I actually care to do well. Him sucking the last season and a half has offered quite a bit of Schadenfreude in fact. If he wants to help my baseball team win baseball games, that'd be great, but I'm not holding out any more hope for the guy and I won't really be cheering for the guy either.
  20. But if his value is greatly reduced after a season in which the team does not plan on contending, why not trade him early? It makes perfect sense to trade him now which is why I fully expect them to do so.
  21. He's the top dog. He's the one in charge so the idea that he doesn't know is impossible. The owners can be mad with the decisions he makes, but he is the decision maker.
  22. Which fans already have. They sold 11 players at the deadline including their starting SS. They're very obviously not trying to contend in 2026. Eh, it's a RP. A smart GM should be able to replace a mediocre RP for little cost. The issue is he continued to grow and became a very good RP. If would have been very nice to have him on the 2019 roster, absolutely.
  23. Willi Castro played 20 games at 5 different positions, including 3B and SS. Austin Martin cannot climb the defensive ladder to become that sort of utility player. Willi Castro he is not. A utility player that is mostly limited to LF and 2B is not a utility player but just a role player. That doesn't mean he can't be valuable in that role, but it's not utility.
  24. This, this is a pet peeve, but how do so many people here get seemingly every single name wrong? You get Keirsey wrong? I get it, he's one of the worst players in franchise history and he hasn't really earned the respect of remembering how to spell his name. Keaschall? It's a bit tougher, but hopefully is a very important name and you should learn it. But come on people. You have to spell their name right to look at their BBRef page, so spell it right here.
  25. He had a 1.303 WHIP and 3.71 FIP with the Twins with one more season of control. They screwed up, but the trade made sense and this wasn't some egregious error at the time. They failed to tap the full potential of a player. It happens.
