  1. I'm not gonna excoriate someone for a bad joke, but it's especially unfunny in a week where a bunch of 20-30 something republican staffers are outed as, essentially, nazis.
  2. Anyone asking for McLean or Alvarez is being ridiculous. They aren't being traded for someone that isn't a bona fide ace. I don't think Benge is necessarily untouchable, but Stearns is a big system guy and I don't think he trades him either, but it's a fair ask. It is entirely reasonable that Mets would offer: Jett, Mauricio/Vientos, Sproat/Tong, and then further prospects like Suero, Reimer or Clifford. That's still a big haul, but understandable if the Twins say it's not enough. One further thing to consider is that it looks like Skubal might also be on the market. And I can imagine the Mets being one of the top bidders for him first. Ryan being an after thought.
  3. Sorry if you felt I was attacking you. I was just responding to the argument. Kind of, but he was so bad at the beginning of the season, it kind of proves me wrong. Split by approximate quarter seasons to avoid intentional cherry picking. 1st quarter: 540 OPS 2nd quarter: 810 OPS 3rd quarter: 640 OPS 4th quarter: 690 OPS So, he had a real hot stretch in the middle of the season (957 OPS over 103 PAs) but otherwise he was pretty bad generally speaking. I am happier with him now than I was in April because he did appear to make actual improvement on defense. But I just don't like him, as a player. Here's hoping he can prove me wrong.
  4. He's the type of player that has value with options, and very little when they're exhausted. But, at the same time Kike Hernandez has stayed on the most stacked roster in the majors for a while now, despite being a 640 OPS guy. That's basically his best case scenario.
  5. Ok, first, that's not great. If you're cherry picking a significantly large timeline and still can't get him to above an 800 OPS, that's not great! For example, Trevor Larnach had an 850 OPS from April 13 - May 19 and an 880 OPS from July 30 - Sept 4th! And, secondly, we can also say he hit .231 / .267 / .395 from Aug 1 to the end of the season. He was bad.
  6. Grrrr. I hate when my boss tells me to do something within the purview of my job description at the job I am extremely fortunate to have. One can easily understand why he complained to the media about this egregious mistreatment.
  7. Torii Hunter as manager would be difficult and make me uncomfortable.
  8. First paragraph was direct response to you, second paragraph was a general addition to the conversation. No strawman crafted nor intended to be read, as there are quite obviously others here who think the trade was terrible. And those people are, obviously, wrong.
  9. And yet you're still only accounting for HALF of the trade, while wanting everyone to believe you're viewing the trade objectively. It didn't work out as well as one would have hoped at the time. But this idea that it was a terrible trade is just revisionist history entirely fabricated out of pure frustration.
  10. You are entitled to the opinion that a trade of an expiring contract of a player that proceeded to hit a .650 OPS was one of the the worst trades in Twins history. But that just makes it look like you don't know anything about the history of the Twins or anything about baseball in general. It's very obviously wrong, but everyone has the right to be wrong. Like I said, stick to the bit. It's funny for everyone else.
  11. Two things are true: 1. Falvey is not very good at his job. 2. Anyone still complaining about the Polanco trade is both weird and wrong.
  12. I commend you for your commitment to the bit. You never let being wrong get in the way, and that's brave.
  13. Clemens didn't improve at all. He's exactly the player he was with the Phillies, but had a 3 week hot stretch in May.
  14. Even if that were the case, then he deserved to be fired for refusing to push back on his boss. Maybe he learned something and he can bring that to his next job.
  15. I'm gonna go back to my original comment. They're good, intriguing bats. And I'm very happy to watch them grow. But they are NOT elite bats. This level of hype is why a bunch of people were shocked that Miranda sucked. I'm just trying to set reasonable expectations for both the players and the fans sake.
  16. Yes. And I don't mean that as a derogatory. He's not a Top 100 prospect. He's not a 45 grade prospect. I do like him, especially as return for a rental player, but let's not make him something that he's not. He was 17th in wRC+ for all AA players under the age of 25 with at least 250 PAs. Really impressive! But because he's offering no defensive value, also not good enough to be truly exciting. But plenty to be intriguing!
  17. No. I know fans are impatient, but there's no reason to even discuss this really. This sort of uber-hype over pretty good but ultimately run-of-the-mill prospects is how fans get disappointed about prospects. Mendez is a bat-only prospect with a AA OPS under 850. He's not a top 100 prospect, and not particularly close to being one. 2026 is going to be rough, but that doesn't mean fans should hope the Twins rush their prospects to the big leagues. I put the chance of him being an opening day starter at about 1% and that still seems too high.
  18. The surprise is not that he was fired. It's how he stayed in the job for 7 seasons, enough to become the 3rd most winning Twins manager? There's far too much job security in the Twins organization. Probably why they have a culture that doesn't emphasize winning.
  19. Fact of the matter is the Twins minor league pitching was a massive disappointment this year. Their top internal pitching prospect, in MLB pipeline, only pitched 62 innings with a 1.35 WHIP in A+, and their only 50 FV prospect pitched 80 innings with a 1.51 WHIP. There's not much of anything to get excited about down there, and helps explain why the team brought in so much pitching in their sell-off. Falvey has failed spectacularly and should have been fired with Rocco after the 2024 season.
  20. Ok, but that is an entirely separate concern from their payroll. You asked why the other owners would allow Twins to slash payroll, and I told you why.
  21. Because the Pohalds haven't actually been that stingy on payroll relative to the rest of the league, always being slightly below average to average, and allowing a team for a few years in the bottom of the payroll in order to do a rebuild is part of the cycle of team ownership for anyone not in one of the 3 major markets. There's no reason any owner should object to the Twins having a payroll under $100 Million next year because there might come a year in the future where that owner might similarly want to run a very low payroll for a few years in order to get right. This payroll slashing isn't just because the team wants to lower their expenses like the Athletics. It's a recognition that the team they built was dogshit and needed a complete overhaul.
  22. Are we still legally allowed to criticize billionaires? Or does that fall under anti-capitalist and make one Antifa now?
  23. I can promise you that the Twins didn't enter a rebuild in order to give a big contract, even if a one year deal, to Devin Williams for a 74 win team in 2026.
