If I could ask one question at all...recognizing it wouldn't be answered it would be; "Derek, aren't you accountable for the current status of the organization, and if so, why are you still here?"

I don't care for the hire, but hope I am wrong. I don't like how Falvey has run the organization and I think the Pohlads are terrible owners who are at the root of the Twins problems. That said, I will continue to pull for the Twins even though I've moved out of the area. I don't know if this is badmouthing, or what, but I don't think there is a lot of value in just being a pollyanna.

BREAKING: Twins to Hire Derek Shelton as Manager for 2026
Jeff K replied to knothole61's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
"It's the same old story, same old song and dance, my friend" Aerosmith, Get your wings. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss". The Who I'm feeling grumpy with this hire. I would be thrilled to be wrong...but until Falvey is gone we will experience Groundhogs day.- 250 replies

Road to a Rebound: Trevor Larnach
Jeff K replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
100% agree. As you said, he is a mediocre to decent platoon DH. Those at bats are better utilized finding out about our youngsters. The Twins are not going to be world beaters next year. let's find out what we have. -
The Twins and the Illusion of Hope in a Rebuild
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I had to look it up; MSP is the 16th largest metro with 3.7 Million souls. Houston, on the other hand, has the 5th largest metro at 7 million souls. I think they qualify as a pretty large metro with much greater financial resources.- 61 replies

Twins need to listen, but should not be enticed by prospects. They need players who can contribute at the major league level. Pretty much anywhere on the infield.

This is too painful. It's relieving our misery the past two years ever since the infamous "right sizing" statement.

Very interesting perspective. I've kind of felt this way too; but was unable to put into reasonable expressions.

The Latest On Minnesota Twins' Managerial Search
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rowson appears to be a fine hitting coach; however, I don't think the Twins should have anything to do with the philosophy that lead to the bomba squad. Makes little sense to me if the Twins are going in a scrappier direction.- 73 replies

I agree with most of the responses that Torii is a no. That said, I think he would bring leadership from management that has been sorely missing. I seem to recall him putting Justin Morneau in his place when he wasn't working hard enough as a rookie. Regardless of who the Twins hire, they need leadership attributes that have been missing and a focus on fundamentals.

Pohlads Preach Patience While Fans Question Commitment
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I read that as well; however, it could easily be a signal to the league that they will have to pay up to pry either of those guys away. -
None of us know which way this is going, but for starters, I do not believe Larnach will be on the opening day roster. His spot is better utilized by one of our young outfielders. I don't view this as a money saving move, but a smart baseball decision...which, of course, has to weigh the value of money against the roster spot and internal growth. I'm not crazy about keeping Wallner, but his salary is compelling and he still has upside...whether he taps it is another question altogether.

2025 Twins Daily Rookie Of The Year
Jeff K replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He looks like a guy that ignites teams. I expect his fielding to be much improved in 26 -
Without knowing the game plan, I would drop the following players regardless: Cabrera, Tonkin, Gasper, Julien, Miranda, Keirsey, Outman. None of these guys are better than AAAA, if that. The Twins need to drop more than the above. Depending upon the plan, you could consider the following players: Hatch, Misiewicz, Topa, Clemens, Fitzgerald and McCusker. I would not lose any sleep losing these guys. Clemens or Fitzgerald are ok at the VERY end of the bench. But the Twins must upgrade first base. Fitzgerald lasts until there are better back up options at SS. When healthy, Topa wasn't that bad which is probably the bar the Twins have for the bullpen.

Your point about Clemens and especially Outman is how I see it too. Outman is not a major league player and Clemens is on the margins. I'd rather upgrade or go with our rising minor leaguers.

Starting pitching could be quite good and hitting could improve with luck and tweaks. But the relief pitching is virtually naked. Outside of Funderburk, I'm not sure I like any of them. Maybe Topa? Sands was pretty bad...maybe give him another role? Translation, the bullpen needs much more than Tweaking.

I agree with this assessment. What I don't understand is why not fire Baldelli at the same time as the fire sale? Staying on had to be like walking across hot coals for two months. If you plan on firing they guy, do it. And now we read that Falvey doesn't have a plan yet for what he wants out of his new manager. How can that be? Leaders must always have a plan B in their back pocket. In this case, it should mean he knew the attributes he was looking for as well as a number of candidates. This is almost as bad as Joe Pohlad being surprised when his TV deal went south and he hadn't worked on a plan B already. It's been Amateur hour with the Twins leadership. The Twins need professionals running the organization, not this bunch. With Joe Pohlad and Derek Falvey, they are the Frankentwins.
