  1. Twins spent $200million on a guy to do that in Minnesota for more than a decade. And for several of those years, it was worth it, and he was beloved by all (most (many.))
  2. With "The Bringer of Rain" throwing the ball to first to "Make It Sano" can we give Arraez and Polanco nicknames related to weather, too? Preferably "Sleet" and "Hail" related to work in a "Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor hail" line about allowing runs?
  3. "Hey Bregman! I hear your sister is going out with Squeaks!"
  4. Instead of skills or Dodgeball, get teams of five MLB Legends competing in a game of BASEketball. Psyche-outs included.
  5. Judging solely on the accompanying picture, I really thought the article was going to be about a Grateful Dead tribute band paying to rent Target Field for a concert or music festival venue or something. I'm not at all disappointed that I was wrong.
  6. I love the article, and the comparisons to top trios of the Twins' recent past, and I get that in the post-season a team is only going to be using their top 3-4 pitchers, but 162 games is a marathon, and you've got to rely on at least two other pitchers to get you through the majority of your games. Looking at the pitching staffs listed above, the pitching staffs were rounded out thusly: 1991 - After Morris, Erickson, and Tapani, you had: Allan Anderson (22 starts; WAR -0.2); David West (15 starts; WAR 0.6.) 2004 - After Santana, Radke, and Silva, you had: Kyle Loshe (34 starts; WAR 0.4); and Terry Mulholland (15 starts; WAR 0.5.) 2006 - After Santana, Liriano, and Radke, you had: Silva (31 starts; WAR -1); Boof Bonser (18 starts; WAR 1.3); and Scott Baker (16 starts; -0.7 WAR.) I think it is a safe bet (by no means a sure-bet, but a safe one) that - after Berrios, Odorizzi, and Maeda - some combination of Pineda, Bailey, Hill, and Chacin will round out the starting pitching staff and make it overall one of the best the Twins have had in a long time (if not of all time.)
  7. 6) The ball. We saw in the playoffs what the Twins offense did with a different ball than what was used in the 2019 regular season. A lot of hits that would have been homeruns in the regular season were caught on the track by the Yankees (and two I can remember specifically in Game 3 by Judge in right.) Yes, every team hit the same ball last season, and the Twins hit it amongst the best. Twins hitters will have to contend with not just hitting "bombas" in 2020 to score their runs if the ball goes back to the less-aerodynamic version pre-2019.
  8. Great article and comparison of two of my favorites. One additional talking point would be: who can be more useful sitting on the bench for 5-6 games between use; and who would benefit more from playing everyday in Rochester. In that regard - and this is strictly an eye test, as I don't have any numbers backing this up - I would give the leg-up on an MLB Opening Day roster spot to Astudillo. He's a natural-born cheerleader in the dugout, available to play more positions in an emergency (remember Gardy's fascination with carrying a third catcher?), and can plug more holes than Cave. If Cave is playing, it's because someone in the outfield is injured, and he'll be available for a call-up on their trip to the IL. Turtle Power.
  9. I'll take a Graterol for Maeda, Ramos for Capps, Revere for May and Worley, or any of the above trades any time of the season over the trade that still haunts us Twins fans 35+: Brunansky for Tommy Herr. Trade one of the heart and soul members of your still-fresh World Series champions for someone from the team you just beat who does not want to come here just because the team is beginning the season with a losing record. That ghost is still haunting the land the Metrodome once stood on to this day (probably confused since they don't play baseball at US Bank stadium aside from the random odd Gophers game here or there.)
  10. Thank you for the article. Rookie of the Year is/was on Disney+, and my kids (both baseball fans because of my love of the game) both loved the movie.
  11. Former MLB pitcher Mike Bolsinger is suing the 2017 Astros. He pitched one inning in relief for Toronto in Houston in August 2017, was lit up for 4 runs, and was immediately sent down to the minors. He never pitched another MLB inning again. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/02/11/lit-up-by-2017-astros-he-never-pitched-mlb-again-now-hes-suing/ I checked out that inning at http://signstealingscandal.com/games/2017_08_04_tormlb_houmlb_1.html and Marwin saw three pitches from Bolsinger. Two breaking balls and the third pitch was a fastball Marwin pulled into the right-field seats for a three-run homer. You can watch Marwin's at-bat here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkwjm2oglGw&t=5663. There are no bangs during Marwin's at-bat (with a runner on second, the catcher was mixing up the signs) but the two runners on base for his homerun both were recipients of trash-can bangs (that led to a single for Reddick and a walk for Gurriel.)
  12. For the entirety of the 2020 season, every player from the 2017 Astros should have to have their home walk-up music replaced with a song from "Stomp" (the Broadway musical where the percussion is all trash can lids banging.)
  13. I caught a shirt from TC's cannon at a Father's Day game two years ago, and gave it to the kid in front of me. But almost every other game at Target Field I've go the t-shirt cannon strapped to my back, so at least I've got that going for me. Which is nice.
  14. Can the Twins throw Sam Dyson in to sweeten the pot?
  15. 53% sliders and 41% change-ups? Astros would have tired themselves out just banging on garbage cans with him on the mound.
  16. Current Astro Ryan Pressly came in to pitch in the 4th for the Twins. While he didn't give up any runs, Pressly still heard a lot of bangs during Beltran's at-bat (gave up a single) and then immediately hit Gurriel (who still heard a bang) with a pitch. (Announcers talked about how frustrated Pressly was, which is likely an understatement.) After that, with a runner on second, Pressly and Castro switched up the signals, and there were no more bangs after that. Love to hear from Ryan Pressly on what it was like pitching against his future team while they cheated.
  17. My guess: for the first few weeks of the 2020 season, Marwin is going to hear garbage can banging when he comes to the plate from some unhappy fans in the crowd.
  18. Baldelli is a big believer in giving players rest. Playing time for Marwin should not be hard to come by, particularly early in the season (only two off-days in May, for example).
  19. If the answer to the question posed is "No" from Falvey and Levine, then they need to be prepared to change the answer to a "Yes" when an all-but-mathematically-eliminated team comes to them before the trade deadline, offering their top pitcher for Prospects X, Y, and possibly Z.
  20. It's a lot of pressure on the rookies, but eventually a Dobnak or Graterol is going to have to step up and solidify their spot in a rotation. It's how all future superstars start. Twins will probably see one-two bullpen games a week until Pineda joins, and then one-two every other week until Hill is healthy.
  21. Love me some Marney! Love the "Better Call Momma" homerun call. Remember at the end of 2018 when she worked nine positions in one game (including camera and ball girl down the line?) She's great at what she does, and she deserves the chance to do more.
  22. Twins thought they were getting contracted in the early-2000s, so they just didn't care about MLB's rules. (Maybe.)
