  1. Molitor says otherwise The problem with the corner outfielders are 2 fold They strike out a horrific rate They also do not appear to be great fielders. Logan at least provides fielding. Defense does not matter?
  2. The Dodgers have no current qualified starters with a WAR better than Santana, Kershaw is injured and below the cutoff, Madea is behind for the moment. The Orioles have no one, Cleveland only has Kluber Texas has Hamels So on 4 out of 10 teams currently in the playoffs Santana would be their second best starter by WAR
  3. I would imagine why Maddon would think a player who worked at excelling playing multiple positions and had a bat capable of it would advance quicker than a player playing only one spot is that it would take a lot of extra work on the part of the player. I think any manager would want hard working players on their roster.
  4. It is not so stupid to want players to have position flexibility. Thing is, they have to be players. Mocking Doumit, Herrman and Suzuki really does not make the idea of having player flexibility a bad one.
  5. 10 and Buxton coming up. Perhaps pages of angst for nothing.
  6. You need the heat maps to determine if there is any difference in how he is pitching in the minors versus the majors.. Do you get that concept? Deception works better in the minors, less capable batters in pitch recognition are in the minors. So is Berrios getting people out in the minors on the same stuff he threw in the majors? Answer that question and you will know if it is Berrios or the coaching. So thinking 'where might all that contribute to the problems come from' is a type of thinking that you do not get? What motivation does a pitcher in the minors, striking out batters and getting high prospect status have to listen to coaching when what he is doing is working? The other direction is why would a coach change what a player is doing if it is working? it is totally possible that in the minors the coaches are more worried about wins and losses than development and fundamentals. Coaching does matter. Do the Twin's minor leagues have deficient coaching or deficient reception to the coaching? The answer lies in between, but where
  7. Gonsalves missed a couple of starts in June, Stewart has too many games of not pitching 6 innings to have more innings this year. The bad management practices can't do much about either situation.
  8. Yes they would claim Trout. They might pass on Puig.
  9. A lot of teams must have pitchers must be having down years because other than by wins and losses the numbers seem to say Santana is a high 2 and thus a valuable commodity for a win now team
  10. Speculation then ranting over what the shape of the front office is going to be is pointless when you do not know how they are going to shape the office. Seemingly attacking titles uncreated and, as there are no former players in the current front office, former players not yet involved. People need to just take a deep breathe, drink a beverage, and wait for the front office to take shape. The entertaining twist is that you will not know any more about the front office and structure than Jim Pohlad does about the other teams as MLB.com is the likely source of information for everyone As to the title of the article. You fire the manager when you can't fire the players. As Santana cleared waivers, the only player you can not fire is Mauer. The other long term contract is Hughes and he is on the dl and is as likely to stay there as not.
  11. As Dozier had tanked the last couple of half seasons maybe the plan was to move Dozier. I know that it would come as a great shock to many on Twins Daily but things do not always go as planned As far as Garver goes, the may be that he is a part time player behind the plate as the more he caught, the more his batting dropped in Fort Meyers.
  12. When you have nothing, socks are a great thing.
  13. Go look at a spray chart for Ortiz. That he has become capable of hitting the ball with authority to all fields would run counter to the statement Twins were trying to make him into something he is not. Hick's tenure in New York would say you are correct that the Twins erred into trying to make Hicks into a starting CF
  14. Too bad there are no heat maps for the minor leagues to see if there is a difference in Berrios' control minors versus majors. Likely the minor league players swing at more of his balls out of the zone than the major league batters do. Likely the calls are not as favorable. There is a large number for Berrios missing the strike zone. A 12.9% walk rate is not on any coaching staff. They likely talked a quite a bit about control. It is also likely he is not as effective from the stretch. I realize many people look at minor league numbers and think they translate well to the major leagues. Not every team has a roster of players with poor plate discipline. If only he could face a team of Arcias. I wish I could be so smart as to blame the coaching. Any player still owns their own performance. When things go wrong there have been multiple people telling him things. If I was smart and knew what was said early on to Berrios and his reaction and/or learning, that it is the coaching would be an easier sell.
  15. Someone from a "great" organization might not be so great themselves. See Luhnow. Hoyer did nothing special while in San Diego, yet he looks real smart in Chicago. Cherrington. Those who want Cherrington please explain the Boston pitching staffs 0f 2014 and 2015
  16. There might be a little more love shown for more people than just Mauer.
  17. I am confused. The team is vilified for sending Berrios down to work on being ready for prime time. The team is vilified for not doing the same with Duffrey.
  18. The more the consistent and repeatable the swing, the better the golfer. Same for pitching. Mind also analysis is preferred over lysis of the player. The paralysis does not come from the analysis but the lack of knowledge involved in the treatment plan.
  19. In terms of many fans what Joe suffers from is 2 things. 1, Never had the team jump on his beck and he carried them through the playoffs As Jimmy Jam penned "What have you done for me lately"
  20. Danny Santana for Puig. Throw in Park to match money.
  21. Arcia was cut by two teams. What romantic notions that somehow, some way Arcia will reinvent himself from a hitter that gets himself turned into an out by swinging at everything into a patient hitter is folly. Using his name and Vargas in any context together as similar is a gross disservice to Vargas. Vargas was not let go so you can quit the sorry lament for Vargas
  22. Half of the Twins games from now until the end of the season will be against teams with playoff hopes soundly dashed. September could mean even more teams with less to play for. Projecting does get trickier. As many as 9 teams could tank leaving the Twins out of the top 10 if they finish with a .450 winning percentage.
  23. Which one wouldn't be batting practice? The AAA pitchers brought up so far seem to only offer in game batting practice. The AA pitchers are injured or unimpressive for the level
  24. The people who would be so disappointed in an inhouse candidate forget a few things. How many of the core players on Houston's team was brought in by Wade? Boston need tweaking, which Epstien gets all the credit for building the Red Sox into champions. Wlt Jockety was thrown out of St Louis with an inhouse person rising. I do not think Jockety has won since. Moore should get all the credit for KC. Sometimes the outside person arrives at the right time and makes the right key moves. There are also plenty of wrong moves like adding Gomez last year probably negatively impacted Houston. Arizona probably has regressed. It could be a crapshoot when you hire. The time to have brought in someone new to the Twins was 2011 or so, The team really was at rock bottom.
  25. In the end Bryant, a big man could play in the outfield with no problem. Adam Dunn played outfield. He did so as well as he fielded any other position on the field, without injuring himself. Carlos Lee was bigger than Sano. He managed. Jason Werth is a pretty big OF, There was absolutely no reason for Sano not to be able to play in the outfield other than the limitation of Sano being Sano. Sano has over 400 games played at 3b as a professional How long does it take to learn a position? Plouffe after 200 games was a good defender. Sano to right was about getting Sano less chance to touch a baseball in a game. After 4 years Sano is no closer to being competent at 3b than when he started playing. They are now having a "problem" at corner infield because Sano managed to somehow be a worse OF than 3b.
