Arbitration & pre-arbitration eligible in ‘26 @ $59M up to (with same total of 23 guys) arbitration & pre-arbitration in ‘27 @ $135M. I get you are just reporting what you see published but does this seem realistic? Hard for me to fathom this type of increase with one more year of service time……everyone more than doubles salary on average?

Ober is a starter or traded. Larnach is a starter or more than likely traded (.768 OPS v. RH pitching - hesitation) Festa doesn’t seem to have the durability at this point to start….. he’s in my PEN & Matthews is moved to Closer Emma has shown zero signs of being able to play for more than a month in a row - Gonzalez has his spot on my roster. Winkel seems OK for #2 Catcher, per your description - right? SPEND on FA Catcher …… move Jeffers to 3rd string C and play him 2-3 times per month behind plate …. regular at 1B! Clemens is #13 guy, with 4 position versatility. Lee - Larnach - Roden - SWR - Ober - Festa are all trade candidates along with prospects. Rotation: Lopez-Ryan-Bradley-Abel-Ober (or other) PEN gets 1-2 FA signings & Prielipp - Matthews - Sands - Raya - Morris - SWR - Festa - Funderburk ……..Adams has to go away

He just looks more athletic and quicker than I recall in any of previous couple seasons. Health is a big deal & some development work has helped. To me, he just looks like a much sharper and more capable defender regardless of the stats …….. having stats be positive as well, this seems to prove the positive eye test makes sense. Great to see!
-
I think HE trusts his instincts, not sure anyone else will for some time into the future. He looks more dynamic on the field now. He’s pressing to make an impact - understandable, but not great if it turns out to be negative impact.

I think, winning as much as you lose, with nearly Zero expectations, is the only fun part. Add Keaschall to the line-up back to May and the Twins would be in the mix for playoffs with the “pre-deadline” Twins. Lopez every 5th day & Keaschall for another 65-70 games & the Team would have been solid, IMO. Probably buy something in trade at the deadline-line instead of the exodus. Too bad key guys got injured - I do like the fresh look, with some financial flexibility heading into ‘26!

I like Jeffers but his defense is already in the “slipped” category. Never really good. I agree, moving him to 1B and having him stay functional as a Catcher by getting behind the plate a couple times per month would be a really good move…..,3rd Catcher always on active Roster. A 3-4 year deal makes sense as he can also DH. Use some of the saved $$ from recent trades and sign best option FA at Catcher ……. tried this with Vazquez & it looked good on paper. May have to trade a couple guys to pry a young Catcher away from another club? I like Ober but I can’t imagine how one throws 70% as many innings with an ERA that’s 2 runs higher than previous 2 years and he gets an 80% raise??? If they aren’t trading Lopez or Ryan, it doesn’t make sense to lock into Ober for one extra year………not with the number of mid-rotation guys currently in the system. If they aren’t trading one of the Top 2 then an extra year of affordable Ober makes sense. If they can extend Keaschall - if he’s 75% of what he’s done so far in the future - go for it ASAP.

Apparently, BALDELLI has shifted his managerial approach for this energy shift to happen because the player’s performance & attitude is completely controlled by the Manager…….. hitting/base running/defensive sharpness are not the player’s responsibility but rather the Manager’s through his motivational approach & strategy………….75% of people here at TD buy into that anyway. Players play and that level denotes the Team’s success!

I don’t think they can DFA him as he’d just be optioned ……. he has been very disappointing, in general. Can’t imagine anyone here has said he should be released but not being a consistent contributor & hitting .200 +/- is not good. He hits lots of solo shots and strikes out with guys on base - routinely. I like his recent trending and expect/want him to do well! He’s been hard to watch or get behind essentially the entire year……..couple of his recent HR’s have been to left field, this seems encouraging as he’s letting the ball travel and not pulling off it - hopefully, he’ll keep heating up for remaining weeks if the season.

They got out from under a fading player’s enormously out of balance compensation. Taj Bradley & Abel & possibly Rojas should be in the mix on the 13 man staff through ‘26. I certainly don’t think that the return can’t be gauged until ‘28-‘30. Stewart, while solid this season and nearly always, when healthy, is like Russian Roulette from a physical standpoint. Outman was 3rd in ROY race in ‘23 - great lottery that cket move! Coluombe - Paddack - Castro - Bader were all gone in 2 months and weren’t going to get them in the playoffs this year. The arms have similar upside to what they let go and they got controllable years of service gains across the board.

Let’s put the 4th grader in 6th grade and see how they do…….. it’s not fantasy baseball. He was a year younger in High A - even younger, on average at AA & not too many 21 year olds in AAA - let’s get him, I don’t know, 60 AB’s at least? I assume he’s a Spring Training invite for sure and could be up by June of ‘26 for the initial “look see”. The write up is about acclimating and adjustments - gonna take a bit, IMO.

Keaschall - 4 for 9 over first 2 games back with a dinger & 2 doubles ……6 RBI. Wow. …. Friday he’ll steal a base! Guy looks awfully good to be a fluke!! ‘26: Jeffers - Lewis - Lee - Keaschall - FA@1B/DH - Larnach - Buxton - Wallner - Gonzalez FA@Catcher - Roden - Clemens - Martin - Gonzalez PEN: Sands - Topa - Funderburk - Rojas or Prielipp - Abel or Bradley - Charlie Soto - 2FA’s. Rotation: Lopez - Ryan - Matthews - Ober - Festa or SWR I think this is a very competitive Club. The 2 FA’s are key on the offensive side!!! They took $60-$65M off of this year’s budget, headed into ‘26 they can spend moderately. They’ll spend $8-$10M additional on arbitration guys ………..leaving $30M for 2 offensive guys and $10 for 2 FA pen guys…….still saves $15M off this year’s budget.

Tait is 18 …… absolute minimum of 2 years left in MiLB ranks, probably 3-4 years. Taj Bradley will displace our 5th starter next year OR he will be the 8th inning, Griffin Jax replacement. 3 decent pitches with ability to throw 98 in short burts/max effort role. Could be a star! Just looking at stats - Mendez looks like he can give Emma a run for his money in ‘26 - especially if Emma gets hurt his usual 2-3 times per season. Abel is too talented not to pitch regularly - w/o a couple starters getting traded, he is the new Louie Varland in the 7th.

Eddie Julien not being able to hit …… Jose Miranda’s inability to hit …… both of their mediocre at best defensive skills have Zero to do with the Manager - zero! Julien lead MLB in “strikeouts looking” in ‘24 & the guy that finished second in backward K’s had 200 more AB’s ……. Eddie needs to be saved by a psychologist! Martin was a top pick in Toronto and they traded him - he’s physically available about 60% of the time & he’s not really a skilled OF - with no power it’s tough to rationalize playing him with any regularity……, his skills or lack of have nothing to do with the Team’s Manager.

Can’t resist - DeShawn Kiersey is not a MLB level player………defending a guy that has failed miserably, miserably 3 different times when asked to sacrifice bunt in key situations is hard for me to understand. If one cannot put the ball on the ground in play, there’s no chance he’s going to swing and make good contact………..he’s had enough opportunities to have had 3-4 high points but they do not off-set the 55-60 times he’s looked absolutely terrible at the plate…….he’s 9-82 on the season…….this isn’t Y ball - one needs to earn AB’s you don’t just “get 250 AB’s” to see how you do……….-1.2 WAR …….projects to -4.0 with any sort of regularity in playing time……he’s brutal.

Keaschall’s first night back on the Roster Tuesday night - starting at 2B - 2 RBI homer ……. RBI single………,,He shouldn’t be playing in front of Eddie though. Eddie lead MLB in K’s looking and the guy that was 2nd had 200 more AB’s in ‘24 …….. if I never see Eddie play again for the Twins, it would be just fine.

TWINS let Pagan go & now he’s the Red’s closer …….. they let Ronny Henriquez go and he’s a star in Miami ………. they developed Varland from a low draft pick into a budding PEN star …….. they signed Coulombe as a FA last off-season. They have Matthews - Ober - Ryan - SWR - Festa - Lopez for the core rotation 6 headed into ‘26 ……. could be moving one of those guys ….. they certainly all need to be on a Roster somewhere in MLB in April of ‘26! Bradley - Abil - Rojas - Prielipp ………….. Charlie Soto - Andrew Morris ……. there are plenty of options in the system, along with a couple FA additions to supplement next year’s PEN - they can add velocity and develop pitching - it’s been done repeatedly. They brought Stewart back from the dead. Sands -Topa - Funderburk & 2-3 from above along with a couple FA’s…….I have confidence in what they’ll be working with in Spring Training.

The Minnesota Twins Have Failed Byron Buxton
JD-TWINS replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton is a great talent!! He’s been injured an inordinate amount over the past 10 years ……. 107 games & 140 games other than those 2 seasons he hasn’t played 100 games plus in a season ……. this year should change that…….. Saying the Twins (regardless of the deadline) have let Byron Buxton down is ridiculous. I must say, I wasn’t thrilled with Jax being traded (benefit of Bradley is real) & really bothered by Varland’s trade. They got real value back in the trade with Toronto but letting a kid from St. Paul go with control through 2030 seemed short sighted - we’ll see. France - Paddack - Dobnack - Coulombe - Correa (fading performance and injuries have started) - Castro - Bader ……… that’s 7 of the 11 guys moved……..no big deal, seriously, as nobody thought the Team was going to be competitive any longer in ‘25 after July 26th. Duran & his probable $8M salary are gone. Jax and his probable $4M salary are gone. The other guys total, this year, to $58M. That, with what Jax & Duran make currently, frees up $65M in annual salary heading to ‘26. Again, Varland stings but Stewart is an injury waiting to happen. …… I wish them all well BUT them no longer being Twins does not spell doom in ‘26. Lopez hurt - Ober hurt - Keaschall hurt…….etc……..all coming back. Lewis is finally playing well - enough n last 4 games Larnach, Lewis, & Wallner have all contributed in the way they should as central figures in the core of the Team. Buxton has generally been healthy and has performed. at a high level. Keaschall is the real deal and the future at 2B or 1B for years. Bradley - Rojas - Abel all have the talent to step in for guys that were traded, with more years of low cost control. TEAM has flexibility for 2-3 FA adds in the off-season and with the core of Buxton - Keaschall - Jeffers - Lewis - Larnach -Wallner, I see them being very competitive in ‘26. -
Three Arms. Two Months. One Big Opportunity.
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My wish would be to keep Ryan & Lopez ……and met the other 5-6 arms sort out the other 3 spots. Not sure, with all the talk about more trades after the season, why nobody isn’t 100% promoting the trade price as Lopez. He’s under contract for 3 more seasons s so Team’s have a view of salary & Twins would seem to be motivated to move the $21.75M - right? He certainly should be affordable for MN but sho knows what the attitude might be from ownership based on success rate when he comes back?- 21 replies

Ope, Didn't Mean to Let You Have Hope
JD-TWINS replied to Chris Hanel's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They could have traded France w/o Varland …… it makes no sense unless they really like the lefty from Toronto a bunch. Who knows Louie may have texted Falvey an emoji after his Penmates were gone or maybe he yelled at the wrong guy in management? Control through ‘30 - most appearance out of the Pen - putting together great year & a local kid made good……………I’m in Cincinnati and assumed their was some local buzz on what happened. I certainly don’t get it - have heard pundits on MLB TV say the pitcher from Toronto has a future. I was not surprised or really bothered by any trade up until Jax - Taj Bradley has some experience and real upside, so I moved on - Varland though??? -
Ope, Didn't Mean to Let You Have Hope
JD-TWINS replied to Chris Hanel's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With Lewis hurt for last 2 years (while often underperforming) and CC hurt a big % of ‘24 …….. with Keaschall (a real Spark) going down almost immediately & with Lopez & Ober out………. there was no “one other guy” that pushes the Team forward and makes them a winner………more competitive, sure, but not 15 games better in ‘25 nor 8 games better in ‘24.
