  1. Other teams seem to "push" the young, ultra talented prospects to the majors fast. Not sure it it's to try get that extra #1 draft pick with a Rookie of the Year or just a strategy that they can always send the player back to AAA for further improvement if it doesn't work out. As for the Twins, I don't hear anyone talking about pushing players for any reason. Should we be pushing our prospects to the Bigs faster? Should we care about that extra #1 draft pick, as it seems the Twins don't?
  2. We are almost exactly on the same page. I agree with your analysis on pitchers vs hitters taken in the Rule 5 draft. Thus, I wouldn't have Mendez but I would have Culpepper and Klein on the 40 man.
  3. When my boy was playing little league and I was coaching, I figured this out. The traveling team coaches would always holler to tell them what to do. They were like robots, never having to think when running the bases or, incredibly, when playing defense at times. Those types of players should be allowed to make mistakes, learn from them, and show the non-traveling team players how to think on the field. I didn't see it.
  4. Ben Rortvedt miraculously was on the World Series champions this year. Now, he's waived and heading to the Reds.
  5. Clase makes millions. Either he's in trouble with huge debts from gambling or he's addicted to gambling. How else can you explain throwing intentional balls for a reported $5K and a total of $400K. The risk is jail time and never playing baseball again. Not worth it.
  6. Maybe it isn't the coaches but it's overestimating the talent of some of the players. Thus, these coaches were actually maximizing their ability already.
  7. I remember a time when many on TD were clamoring for Kiersey and McCusker to get called up from AAA and then for more playing time with the Twins. Now everyone is clamoring for them to get DFA'd. We get too excited about the new guy and sometimes don't have enough patience with the current guy (though I'm not saying we shouldn't cut these two as I am clamoring for Jenkins................the new guy!).
  8. Hey, we've found an area the Twins are great at development/improvement with - 1st basemen fielding.
  9. I have to disagree. The Twins model player has lacked speed and the ability to play good defense. DeBarge is kind the opposite of that. He is a gold glover who steals a lot of bases. For him, the OBP is probably a lot more important than batting average. Getting on 1st base will often give him a decent chance to get to 2nd with a steal. As with others, I had no clue he was Gold Glove caliber. That moves him up my rankings.
  10. Or worse - the payroll cap is going to be $75 million in the next two years and the Twins are going for the cheapest expense in every area during that period.
  11. And yet when I suggested being aggressive and starting Culpepper at SS and Jenkins in the OF for the 2026 Twins, most of the TD responses were not to rush them (especially aimed at Culpepper).
  12. It's probably a rebuilding job which takes too long and he gets fired and the next manager gets all the glory. But the expectations are very low. Thus, to make the playoffs in the next two years with this team would be a major feather in Shelton's cap. A miracle World Series win and most on TD will forget the negatives they typed in October 2025. Nobody thinks the overall talent is there for the playoffs to happen soon.
  13. I think most fans on TD agreed with firing Popkins (or at least didn't think it was unjustified, like me) as the production seemed to decrease from the Rowson days to the Popkin days. I don't remember many, if any, saying the Twins would regret firing him. But if Popkins is a good hitting coach, kudos to Falvey for seeing that and hiring him, and blame for firing him. It sure didn't take Popkins long to get another job.
  14. If a pitcher gets drafted by the right team (a team that has no chance to make it to the playoffs), they are willing to have that pitcher take a spot in their bullpen all year. Think Tyler Wells when the Orioles were bad. As far as pitchers with bad control changing things (not Rule 5 related), think about Cano. Went to the Orioles, they changed his arm angle, and he's had some decent years now.
  15. Yes, protect Klein. He's still young enough and teams love to draft pitchers in the Rule 5 draft. I'm apparently one of the few No's on Mendez for reasons stated in other posts (though we certainly have enough dead weight on the 40 man roster). Just don't think he will get picked.
  16. Billy Amick probably wishing he hadn't agreed to play in the AFL as he is 0 for the season in this hitters league.
  17. The one and only scenario for Miranda to get back to the Twins - DFA, re-sign a minor league contract, and resurrect the hitter in St. Paul, the one who got 13 consecutive hits for the Twins, if I have my # correct. Maybe a .1% chance.
  18. To my knowledge, he's never played 1st base in the AFL. Those are rough #'s for an all-star 3B. Amick must have been injured too much of the season.
  19. Really? We are overly concerned about a young pitcher giving up too many singles. Singles! That's much better than a concern about a pitcher giving up too many homers. What reduces singles - better defense, especially team speed out there. Turn a double play when you should rather than getting only one out takes care of singles. Zebby does need to focus more with 2 outs. He gives up too many hits/runs with 2 outs.
  20. I like Klein. Needs more development at AAA. I'm adding him to the 40 man roster or he's getting selected in the Rule 5 draft.
  21. Wallner has to fix his swing to cover the upper part of the strike zone. I'm not giving up on him. Sluggers seem to have holes in their swing. He hasn't been given enough time to fix this hole. We need a balance of sluggers and on base guys. Just because guys like Sano haven't worked out doesn't mean we dump every slugger after a year below expectations. Mendez will not be added to the 40 man roster this winter. He's not playing any 1B in the AFL and thus is behind so many lh hitting corner OF's plus he doesn't have much power and hasn't played a single game at AAA yet.
  22. If the Twins were high on Fedko they would have brought him up in September to get a taste of MLB. Being a hitter who only has one great minor league year and, most of all, at his age, he won't get selected in the Rule 5 draft.
  23. I'm adding: Prielipp, Morris, Rojas, CJ Culpepper, Kliein (not Olivares for now - but think he might get picked in the Rule 5), and Gonzalez and Cardenas on the hitter side. I'm surprised Klein wasn't discussed in this video. As discussed in other threads, I don't have Mendez or Rosario as MLB teams love pitchers, not hitters, in this draft.
