Fan favorites include Brian Dozier (All-Star 2B), Glen Perkins (All-Star reliever and local kid made good), Trevor Plouffe (long-ago first-round draftee who turned into a solid 3B after seemingly years not really standing out in the minor-league wilderness) and Torii Hunter (veteran outfielder who returned to MN, his first team, as a free agent.) A rather divisive erstwhile fan favorite is Joe Mauer (1B, former C) who switched positions after a concussion left him at too-high risk playing behind the plate. He's no longer the hitter he was, he plays a position with a lot of great hitters around the league, he makes a lot of money, and he's also a locally born-and-raised guy, which adds to the divisiveness somehow. The team's two best minor-league prospects over the last couple years have both made the majors this year- Sano and Buxton, as described above. Sano seems reasonably likely not to see the minors again except for injury rehab, but Buxton may make another pass through the minors (and will need injury rehab, as he's on the disabled list now.) Hope you and your kid enjoy the Wings!
