  1. I think this can be done, but I just don't remember how to do it. I was having a discussion last night with some friends and one was arguing that Joe was the best 1B in the AL. Can I sort batting stats for 1B (AL only)? If so, can somebody explain how?
  2. Not much question from what I can tell: Kepler RF, Kirilloff 1B, Rooker DH
  3. Keep him. He's stil relatively young and I feel like he can still OPS north of .800. I don't think he would garner much in trades, but has significant value defensively for a team that can't rely on Buxton yet. In another thread I suggested bringing AJ Pollock. If they did that it would offer more flexibility and allow Kepler to get some work at 1B and relegate Cave to AAA.
  4. I don't disagree that it's picking up quite a bunch, but they have less than 50M in salary even with likely arbitration signings. They could legitimately come close to affording that list. I personally would prioritize it as Donaldson, Iglesias, Herera, SP and lastly Pollock. I really like Pollock since he's a RH and can play CF, but realize OF is pretty low priority.
  5. Sign Keuchel or Morton, Herrera, Donaldson, Iglesias and Pollock. SP - Keuchel/Morton, Berrios, Gibson, Odorizzi, Romero/Stewart/Pineda/Gonsalves RP - Herrera, Hildenberger, Rogers, May, Reed, ?,? C - Castro, Garver (Astudillo in AAA) 1B - Sano, Kepler 2B - Polanco SS - Iglesias, Adrianza 3B - Donaldson, Sano OF - Rosario, Buxton, Pollock, Kepler, Cave DH - Rotation of Donaldson, Sano and OF'ers I don't know if this is feasible salary-wise, but I do know that they are shedding a ton of salary this year.
  6. And it sounds like he is from NY so I heard that the Yankees will probably push to sign him.
  7. John, pretty sure you meant Joe Buck. Jack passed back in 2002. As for having Joe Buck's head explode, I'm with you.
  8. Sounds like the optimal situation to me.
  9. I wish Gibson could have found last August about three years ago. He looks pretty sharp tonight. His changeup has nice sink. Let's hope it continues.
  10. Yep, and there was some hand-wringing over Sano's three K's in game one as well.
  11. Either that or they should start the leagues in the north a couple weeks later.
  12. I would say that the Twins have said they are willing to let him reach FA and decide during the offseason whether they can afford or want to keep him. This is what a good FO should do. They've left their options open and have multiple possibilities in replacing him if they so choose.
  13. I love that the Twins jumped on the buyer's market that was 2018 free agency. Getting LoMo at 6.5M per year is a steal and offers some veteran protection behind Sano. With that said, I wish the Twins had gone after Todd Frazier instead. Although Morrison significantly outperformed him last year, Frazier has the longer track record of better performance. Frazier is a RH bat that the Twins are lacking and also could rotate with Sano at 3B, potentially keeping him healthy. Two factors ultimately probably didn't encourage the Twins to sign Frazier. First, they were still potentially saving money to sign Darvish. The Morrison signing came after Darvish signed with the Cubs and the Twins traded for Odorizzi. Second, they didn't know Polanco was going to be suspended. Hindsight makes Frazier the better signing, but I'm still quite happy they signed Morrison. Frazier signed for 2yr/$17M, well within our salary constraints.
  14. Cobb vs Lynn doesn't much matter now. I just hope Lynn can start 30+ with an ERA under 4. If so, he's a good signing.
  15. Why not? Do you think there is a significant difference between Cobb and Lynn? Cobb put up two seasons prior to TJ surgery with sub-3 ERA and 8K/9 in the AL East. My biggest concern with him is a lack of innings, although he put up about 180 last year.
  16. I prefer Cobb to Lynn, so yes I would offer him that.
  17. I am going to say this again. Adrianza is not on the chopping block. He was a valuable depth player last year and does not have options remaining. With Sano either being suspended or questionable to play every day at 3B, they have to keep two IF on the bench. The 25th spot comes down to Grossmann, Vargas and Granite probably ranked in that order. The team needs 5 starters so infrequently in April that they don't need 13 pitchers.
  18. Granite is in Rochester. Adrianza is 24th man because of uncertainty with Sano. Grossman makes it over Vargas because he is a better OF than Morrison (I think). Vargas is redundant with Morrison on the roster.
  19. Really? Polanco had an OPS at age 23 that it took Dozier until he was 27 to best. Polanco had an .870 OPS in the second half last year, a number Dozier has surpassed once. I understand it was only half a season, but to say Polanco isn't capable of being as good as Dozier is inaccurate IMO.
  20. Or it's possible that last year's efforts to trade him set his value. My guess is that they want to see how Gordon and Lewis perform this year. You also didn't mention Polanco. The Twins have options and as such do not have to break the bank to resign him. They also could have just had him go to arbitration every year as well but they gave him an extension. Let's not act as though the Twins are screwing him over. They are making good business decisions.
  21. I will echo what a few have said on this thread. I think the Twins will be able to resign Dozier at a reasonable rate if they so choose. He is likely to face much the same market at the FA did this year. Yes, the Dodgers and Yankees will probably open their wallets again, but Dozier is down the list of FA for next year. Harper, Machado, Kershaw and Donaldson are more likely to get the big contracts next year. DJ LeMahieu, Daniel Murphy and Josh Harrison are other options available at 2B. As well as Dozier has done the past two years, I don't think he is going to break the bank in FA. I'm going out on a limb and guess he signs a 4 year deal in the $60-70M range, well within what is feasible for the Twins. As a matter of fact, I would guess that the Twins will actually reduce their salary if the resign Joe and Dozier (they combine for $32M this year).
  22. This pretty much sums up my feeling. I have no issues with them adding Cobb or Lynn (preferable Cobb for me). The only problem I would have is if it prevented them from going after a better arm at the trade deadline. I would be OK with status quo if I knew that meant they had room to acquire a pitcher in July/August like Houston did with Verlander last year.
