  1. I was thinking that Thorpe was hurt at year end. Possibly Tommy John- anyone hear any health update?
  2. I am in favor of signing two free agent pitchers in the mid range. Start Meyer and May in the bullpen. After the injuries or ineffectiveness of a couple starters Meyer and May move into the rotation. That gives time for the higher upside minor league relievers to progress. Most of the concern has been about the starting pitching but I feel there is just as much if not more to worry about from the bullpen. Let Meyer and May have success in short stretches before starting them on the road against Oakland (May's 1st start). This will also help keep their innings down. IMHO Bret Anderson makes sense on an incentive laden deal because when he gets hurt you move Meyer or May out of pen into the rotation. At least he should help you when he pitches. Unlike Nolasco. The other targets have been mentioned frequently on this site- Masterson, Santana, Liriano. I would wait as there does not seem to be as many teams looking for pitching as most years.
  3. I thought that signing Hunter and hearing that Santana will play shortstop that Nunez may not be retained. But for the money that is projected hard to get too worked up.
  4. I hope this means that they are bringing up ALL the prospects and wanted Hunter in the clubhouse and dugout to help them learn how to play winning major league baseball. Outfield defense sucks but look at our lineup!!! No Rasmus I am trying to convince myself that this could be good. Someone help please
  5. How soon can they be ready. I would love to watch that team. Especially when you sub in Santana, Vargas and Arcia.
  6. Who do you think the Twins could lose in the Rule 5 draft?
  7. My hope is that he can help the outfield defense.
  8. I hit the like button 5 times on Jokin comment- I would go for Masterson and Anderson - start May and Meyer in the pen. Move them into the rotation as starters get hurt or are ineffective. No more PJ Walters, Pedro Hernandez, Samuel Deduno, Mike Pelfrey - As the article stated we have depth but not quality depth. Making these moves would change that.
  9. Enjoyed the podcast. The shorter format is a good idea. Keeps it moving. I would enjoy a show recapping the new coaching staff when they all are named. I think they are off to an excellent start there. I am thinking they may do the same with the pitching coach and the bullpen coach- that is be sure one of them is bilingual.
  10. When I counted the roster they have 36 including Jared Burton and Kris Johnson. I would not include Aaron Thompson. Add Goodrum, Gilmartin and Wheeler and you still have room for a rule 5 guy.
  11. I would like to see Masterson and even one more signing. Start May and Meyer in the bullpen. Stretch them out as we need starters which we will. The bullpen needs help also. Hughes, Gibson, Nolasco and two additions.
  12. I watched the tape of the championship game. John Manual and Joe Magraine (announcers) agreed that Rosario was the best hitting prospect in the Arizona Fall league. They love his swing and said he could compete for future batting championships. If I didn't know better I would have thought they were Twins announcers. Hope they are right
  13. Your headline gave me my laugh for the day. Thanks
  14. You can certainly see the fit on everything but the money. It would send the right message. New manager and coaches and we are serious about winning. Won't happen
  15. Steinbach next?
  16. I love Santana's approach at the plate but it is safe to project some regression. I think his offense at shortstop along with his range and arm will more than make up for the errors. Looking forward to watching him for many years.
  17. Escobar does have more value in the National league IMHO because he can play multiple positions. They do more double switch moves. I have no idea what he would bring in a trade. Doubt that he would bring a starter that we would be happy about.
  18. Wonder if you could trade Plouffe for a left fielder, Have Escobar play 3B until Sano is ready? None of free agents get me too excited
  19. I hope they can do a trade like this. The outfield defense is so bad and I don't see how you fix it with Arcia in the mix.
  20. Ruined my night. It is the only podcast that I listen to. I have listened to every one. Great mix of minors, majors, draft eligible players. Thanks for doing them. How about one a month.
  21. What about Jerry Sands as an outfielder? I see he was designated for assignment the other day. At one time he was pretty well regarded. I do like his approach at the plate. I think he may be worth a look. Price is right. I would rather see this type of move then bringing in an older outfielder just to plug the hole for a year or two.
  22. I like breaking Meyer in from the bullpen. Start with some low pressure spots. Look at May's first start- on the road at Oakland. Put your players in spots where they can be successful. That is a big part of managing.
  23. Exploring what you can trade him for is not giving up on him. You only trade if you get what you need in return. I like Vargas better at DH because he switch hits. Twins were minus 23 runs saved last year in right field. We need outfielders that can field. Could Arcia improve in the field? That is likely but he has a long way to go to get to bad. I wouldn't give him away but if some GM values him like Sickells and can DH him more I would be talking.
  24. I would see what I could get for Plouffe Arcia or Santana. I would only make a trade if I felt I was getting back equal or better value. Need outfielder that can field and hit some and of course starting pitching. The free agent money I have available I would spend on a starting pitcher. Masterson, Santana types If I can't trade for outfielder I would prefer to fill internally. Free agent list does not seem like a fit. I would look hard at the minor league free agent outfielders. Make sure they can field and see if Bruno can get them to hit. Bullpen I would fix internally and also look at minor league free agents. I would not rely on May and Meyer until they prove they belong. I hope they are in the rotation and performing ok but I would not bank on them.
  25. I would platoon Hicks with Schaefer in left. Use the bench player later in the game if we are winning to get Arcia and his minus 23 runs saved out of the outfield. If we are losing use them as pinch runners. Hicks will not be the everyday cf once Buxton is ready. This gives Hicks a chance to prove himself in the majors but in a reduced role so if he flops again it does not impact the rest of the team as much as the last two years.
