  1. For the last couple years I have been reading how the Twins never buy low. Seems to me that Hughes, Kubel and Pelfrey are all solid buy low candidates. Bidding on Tanaka this year is buying at his highest point. Tanaka or Garza were not coming to Minnesota. I think Ryan is doing an excellent job in that we now have major league starters and the depth will improve our bullpen. Since Morneau and Blackburn made about $20 million last year(Hughes, Nolasco money) and Pelfrey re-signed for about a million more than last year we still have money to improve the offense. I don't think TR is close to being done.
  2. Thanks for the article Mike. I am glad someone thinks we can win. I hope your right.
  3. Improves your outfield defense. Can be a late game pinch runner. Defensive replacement if you have Willingham or Arcia in the outfield. Pinch hit for Florimon. I think he would be useful. I would love the Twins to get to Seth's suggested OF of Rosario, Buxton and Hicks with a good 4th OFer. Best thing we could do for the pitching staff.
  4. What's Next? - I would hope Kurt Suzuki- A good veteran defensive catcher is the best thing the Twins could do for Meyer, Gibson and possibly May. Let Pinto catch the veteran starters but need an experienced catcher to guide the young starters. Pinto has potential but he needs a lot of work defensively. Doumit is not a good defensive catcher. Hermann ??

    Arencibia?

I wouldn't sign Arencibia. Twins need a good defensive catcher. I am hoping for Suzuki.
  6. I am OK without getting Kazmir. I had not seen a prediction of more than 2 years because of durability questions. I am not sure Twins are contending in next two years. I think he is a better fit for Oakland than Nolasco would be. But for the Twins I like Nolasco. Only time will tell.
  7. Thanks for my laugh of the day. Don't forget Johan.
  8. Count me in as a huge Deduno fan. He seemed to be able to get his strikeouts when he needed them last year. My only reservation is his shoulder injuries. They can be career enders. It appears that Meyer's shoulder responded well to some time off. Hopefully Deduno's does also. He did pitch in the WBC. Started the championship game so he had some high stress innings pitched even before the season started. Hopefully he just needs this offseason to get healthy.
  9. Always enjoy baseball discussions. Where do I submit a couple questions for next week?
  10. I think the development of the young pitchers is also an issue here. Bringing Meyer and Gibson up to the majors would go much smoother with a catcher that .... can catch. A vetran catcher is important for player development. Developing the young pitchers.
  11. The best money we could spend to help the pitching staff is a good defensive catcher. Pinto looked far below average defensively. Watch St. Louis. They get a lot of credit for having so many good young pitchers. I think it helps them tremendously to pitch to Molina. The twins need Gibson and Meyer to be pitching well in the majors next year to have a chance to put together a decent starting rotation. Signing a good defensive catcher in my opinion is more important than signing a starting pitcher.
  12. That would be a very good defensive team also. Athletic outfield with good arms, Mauer would be good at 1b if they leave him there. Dozier Floriman solid. Sano Pinto?
  13. Winter Leagues: Arizona Fall League: Statistics | MLB.com: Events Winter Leagues: Arizona Fall League: Statistics | MLB.com: Events Looks like the junior Twins in the Arizona fall league are holding their own. Seems like wherever he goes Rosario hits .300- Stolen base and 3 RBI. Buxton may not be over matched. Getting some hits popped a HR. The pitching is what we need the best news on- Meyer had a bad inning in his first outing but bounced back it this one. Hope this keeps up.
  14. Thanks Bob- I really enjoy these type of updates. I have seen Eades a couple times live myself and have not been impressed either. I will look for more Fernando Romero.
  15. One excellent place to make a change without firing someone is the 7th coach they are talking about. Why not add someone from outside the organization? What do we have to lose other than another 96 games
  16. Besides the starting pitching additions I would love to see an outfield with three outfielders. Not two guys that are or were catchers. I think this would really help the pitchers. I know it would be rushing things but is there any chance that Rosario, Buxton and Hicks could be the outfield by next August. I also would be looking at a catcher that is good defensively. Doumit and Pinto are not solid receivers. Move Mauer to 1st. Russell Martin was an excellent addition for the Pirates. We need a catcher like that.
  17. The only thing I disagree with is that we were in contention until June or July. Looking forward to the handbook. It is always well done.
  18. I think you can add Valencia to that list. He hit the ball real well for Baltimore after August 1st. They were contending for a play off spot and he was playing regularly. He couldn't help this team?
  19. Thanks for the write up. I was going to root for him because the Twins need him worse than any other prospect. Your article makes it that much easier.
  20. I just have one last question for Seth. Can they win 4 more games? I have over 67 1/2
  21. How about Mike Redmond? I think he has done a very good job in Miami. He is young for a manager but has big league experience and ties to the Twins.
  22. Tanaka makes the most sense to me because he is 24 and he will most likely be looking for a longer term contract which means he will be here when the reinforcements arrive.
  23. I hope they sign Pelfrey. He wouldn't be the first pitcher to throw better the second year after Tommy John surgery. I am not seeing 5 starters better than him.
  24. Thanks Seth for the daily updates. I don't think there was one I did not enjoy.
  25. I agree. I think Arcia looks poor in the outfield and he does not seem to have good instincts. Every time I read a projected outfield with him in it I feel the same way. I sure hope not. One of the things that I have had the hardest time watching this year is the poor outfield play. How many other teams have TWO players that catch and play the outfield. A defensive outfield of Rosario, Buxton and Hicks could be fun to watch. Put Hick's arm in right. If the infield is Mauer, Dozier, Florimon, Sano with Arcia at DH. That could happen mid summer next year. Move Rosario back to the outfield.
