  1. The free agents that make sense to me are the international free agents. Tanaka is 24, Abreau is 26. They will be looking for 4-5 year deals that buy out their arbitration years. The free agents from here are older and looking to play for a contender. We need young talent at those positions. The payroll is sooo low the next few years that even if the deals did go bad they would not cripple you in the future.
  2. I would love to see it but think it is unlikely. He probably wants to pitch for a contender although there is not one where he would be assured of a roster spot. The only way I see it is if he thinks that that the Twins will leave him in the rotation even after a couple rough starts (like pelfrey)and not have to be ready by opening day(like harden). The Twins do know how to use him and took much better care of Santana than the Mets.
  3. Eloy Jimenez was the top international free agent and it was reported on MLB site that he turned down more lucrative offers to sign with the cubs.
  4. I don't think they will cut him but they could put him in long relief. He could be your emergency starter -mop up guy. Swarczak throwing too many innings.
  5. You might be right but I would like to see him have a chance to build the championship team with a competetive budget. I think he has that now. It will be interesting to see how he uses it. Can he break the old habits? Stay tuned.
  6. Did I read this right ? The Twins received a pitching prospect that is 2 months younger than Berrios and has similar stats in the same league. For Butera? I realize that it is A ball but that looks to me like a very good trade for Terry Ryan. Are the Dodgers interested in anyone esle?
  7. What is keeping Walker in Cedar Rapids? I went to one game there and he DH'd. He appears to be athletic. Is he poor defensively?
  8. Terry Ryan said it is doubtful that Sano is called up because he would have to be added to the 40 man roster. I think he will take the same path as Aaron Hicks. He will have a chance to earn a spot in spring training.
  9. After looking at the list what is the odds of "No Deal"
  10. Love watching Deduno. Forget the stats - watch him make the other teams best hitters look bad consistently. Twins best pitcher by far.
  11. Florimon is also a very good base runner. Excellent speed goes first to third, scores from second and pitches in a few steals. Pedro could hit 10-12 hrs, steal 20 bases and with his defense and arm he would easily be a top 10 shortstop. I think this happens soon.
  12. Being a Boras client he is not going to sign an extension now. He will hit free agency. I do not think that De la Rosa's contract is a perfect comparison because Colorado has generally had to overpay pitchers to come or stay there. But this is a no brainer. Twins desparately need pitchers. Combine Blackburn's 5+ million with Pelfrey's 4 million that he is making, that is plenty enough to sign him and still leaves the Twins at this years low payroll level.
  13. How about a platoon for awhile. Dozier has excellent numbers against lefthanded pitching. I don't know Rosario's splits but I he is lefthanded. He has not played a lot of games at 2nd base so Dozier could come in late in the games for defense. Dozier would also be useful off the bench if you pinch hit for Florimon. Dozier could still play an inning or two at shortstop. I agree with not sending Rosario back to the outfield. He is way more valuable at 2B.
  14. I was able to see a number of these players against Cuba. Turner played shortstop and batted leadoff. His speed was impressive. Did not appear to have much power as Cuba's outfielders were very shallow and he never reached them. The best player I saw that night was Brandon Finnegan from TCU. Fastball between 94-97 for all seven innings that he threw to go with an offspeed pitch in high 70's, slider 83-85 range. Did not look to be 6 foot tall but you don't see a lot of left handers that regularly throw that hard with good control. Looking forward to following him and see if he was a one night wonder.
  15. I agree the twins should try and extend Pelfrey for two-three years. We need a couple of these type of signings. Pelfrey has stated a few times how much he enjoys the smaller media market as opposed to New York. Sign him up.
  16. Thanks for the analysis. Seems like the willingness to give Diamond another start has more to do with the lack of options than anything else. Sure seems like it has to be Albers but in a rebuilding year that 40 man spot may be more valuable than a win or two.
  17. Rosenthal on Foxsports.com says that his sources say that the Dodger's interest is not as fervent as has been portrayed. Maybe price is not as high as has been speculated. Of course an agent would never make it sound like the Dodgers were going to bid 50 million when they are not.
  18. Parmelee had 274 plate appearances before the all star break. I am not sure why people feel he is not getting a chance. I was glad when they said there were no more scholarships. He hit .233 which is horrible for a corner OF/ 1B. It is up to him to force his way into the lineup. Not be given a spot no matter how bad he is. If Colabello plays well Parmelee is not needed.
  19. Thanks Seth, Really enjoyed the article
  20. Pineda finished his rehab starts about 10 days ago and the Yanks just optioned him to the minors. His ERA in his rehab starts was below 3.
  21. From the looks of the expected return I would keep him. If he starts pitching like he has in the past he is better than anything we would receive. As far as his salary status I would worry about that at year end.
  22. In Pelfrey's interview on 1500 he said he talked with a few ex Twin players before he signed here and mentioned Santana. According to Pelfrey - Santana told him that it is a great place to play and he would love the opportunity to go back.
  23. I don't think Diaz can sign until February. I think he lied about his age. Here is a link with a little information: Aledmys Diaz Rumors: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
  24. I am hoping May replaces Gibson when he hits his inning limit
  25. If you are correct about the market and i think you are then it is an easy decision- keep him. We always look at the upside of prospects but not as much for struggling vets. Maybe he comes back- not looking likely but we do not need minimal salary relief or a marginal prospect for a homegrown former MVP. He may DH against right handers in the future and have to accept more of a Jim Thome role. We are getting younger and that looks like it will continue but you need some vetrans. I hope we keep Morneau or Willingham.
