  1. I'm not sure that's a useful way to look at it, though. As of July 31, 2018, Dozier had a bit of value -- I'd estimate approximately Raley/Smeltzer value. I'm certainly not saying it was a bad return, but it also doesn't look like a steal or anything. We haven't missed Dozier, but I doubt the Dodgers miss Raley or Smeltzer either, even if Dozier didn't do much for them. I've previously read in these pages that the Twins made great deals after the early minor league returns of Littell, Busenitz, etc. It takes a lot more than minor league success to really make a great trade. (Again, not that they did poorly with those deals.)
  2. I assumed this was hyperbole. But it's not! https://www.milb.com/gameday/ironpigs-vs-red-wings/2019/04/13/575862#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=575862
  3. Rangers promoted Danny Santana: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/04/rangers-place-rougned-odor-on-10-day-il.html
  4. I think they were warming up in one of the luxury suites.
  5. His name doesn't even begin with "E"!
  6. Are we talking about a roof or these new alternate uniforms?
  7. Keep in mind, guys can put up great minor league numbers and still be pretty marginal prospects. Also, Raley and Smeltzer could start costing us 40 man roster spots soon, whether they are ready to contribute in MLB or not. (Both would be Rule 5 eligible this winter.) I'd say it still looks like a fair return for what Dozier was, at the time.
  8. Sure, but evidence suggests it's not meaningfully lower yet.
  9. Buffalo will be on the road in Pawtucket while the Jays are in Minneapolis, so it's a little warmer there. When they return to Buffalo, the Jays will be in Oakland. Then after that, the Jays are back home in Toronto.
  10. Also mentioned in the ex-Twins thread, Nick Anderson has 12 Ks vs only 1 BB and 1 run allowed in 5.2 IP for the Marlins so far. Also in low leverage, though (maybe the Marlins don't have a lot of high leverage innings?).
  11. FWIW, Kinley's still being used in mop-up situations -- .58 gmLI so far in 2019. About the same as Perez, or Belisle last year, etc. But he had a good spring too.
  12. I hope he debuts in Minneapolis, but at this point, with that team, I'm guessing they don't rush him back to debut on the road in the cold. The Jays next series after that is in Oakland, and then they return home the following week.
  13. FWIW, when the Mets pitcher came up to bat, there was only 1 out, and after consecutive walks, he probably wasn't going to swing the bat to make a DP possible. So at that point, the Twins had to assume the top of the order was going to come up with runners on base that inning, and could make their reliever warm-up decisions accordingly. (McNeil made the second out of the inning on the bases during the pitcher's at-bat.) Also, an official Quality Start™ requires 6 innings, not 5.
  14. Via MLBTR this morning: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/04/latest-on-craig-kimbrel-3.html According to Bowden, agent Dave Meter not only set out in search of a six-year, $120MM for Kimbrel, but has continued to demand a record-seeking deal this spring. Bowden claims that, “even as late as March,” the Kimbrel camp “was still seeking a five-year pact in the $100 million range.”
  15. Clemens had a few minor league starts -- and this article says he was indeed on a minor league contract to begin with: http://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=2862088
  16. No one said they're going to give him a massive pay raise during this deal. But a small bump, plus more years, would change the terms. Off the top of my head, Tulowitzki, Longoria, and Braun all signed similar extensions, while they were still under their first big deal.
  17. They could re-negotiate a further extension. The Royals did it with Salvador Perez, etc.
  18. Well, he only pitched 102 innings last year, so not too many bullets, at least. And now that he's at AA, and he requires a 40-man spot after the season anyway, perhaps we'll see him in MLB before too long. Alcala and Jax are in a similar spot at AA.
  19. True, although the 5 walks in this game stand out a bit more. He did that once last year too, but it was in 4 shutout innings.
  20. That's another thing to keep in mind here -- Balazovic is repeating the level. Not that he's old, of course, but he has faced this level of competition before, which might explain some of his hot start. Also, while he's been very good through 2 games, he hasn't been as efficient as one might like to see. 83 pitches and he didn't finish the 5th inning in this start. Outs and strikeouts are nice, but it seems like the best prospects can put away minor league hitters with a bit more efficiency. Obviously still very early in the season, and early in Balazovic's career, so plenty of time for him to improve -- but it's also probably still early to say Law was right and others wrong too.
  21. Keuchel has an option left. With 5+ years service time, we'd need his consent to use it, but it should be pretty straightforward to get him a couple minor league starts if/when he signs. The Braves optioned Ervin Santana with his consent to begin the 2014 season, to make 1 start at AAA, after he signed late (March 12, about the same point as Lance Lynn in 2018) (As an aside, we could have done the same with Lynn, as he has 2 option years left -- although I feel like his late start was perhaps more of a convenient excuse than the primary driver of his 2018 issues.) For players without minor league options, it would be a little trickier -- you'd need to make it a IL/rehab thing, and the league may not like that. Or you could make it a minor league contract with a verbal promise to promote him soon, like Ervin signed with the White Sox this year -- although the league might not like a ~$15 mil "minor league contract"!
  22. Well, the Astrodome is still alive. I assume the Metrodome is speaking to us from the stadium afterlife. The Silverdome is dead, although that was just over a year ago. Maybe it's still in purgatory? Or maybe it's taking some time coming to terms with its long, unsightly demise: https://architecturalafterlife.com/2014/12/01/the-pontiac-silverdome-apocalypse-stadium/
  23. I think an early postponement is not unheard of for snow games. Remember the whole Cleveland series that got moved to Milwaukee? Also games affected by hurricanes / tropical storms can get early postponements.
