  1. My contention is that by "selling" the club got a chip on their shoulder. Great victory tonight!
  2. I feel like we need a bottle of Bark's rum to really set this streak ablaze.
  3. He could pitch home as long as he comes set. Potential to balk if he just tries to throw home quickly, in addition to the balk he committed. Agree that it was a savvy play by Rosario. He knew exactly what he was doing and called the balk at the same time as the ump. Such an interesting play. Could he have scored on a straight steal? Would they have played the 3B closer of Buxton is on third?
  4. Santana faces 26 batters, strikes out 6, and give up two earned runs. Boshers faces one batter, gets a grounder. Boshers definitely deserved that win over Santana.
  5. Nice comeback. Something to build on? Would be good to get a winning streak started....
  6. 43 Ks in 151 ABs, along with 20 walks. He's hitting .197 for Ft Myers, having struck out 22 out of 66 times. I'm thinking the big club could have used Garver and Vargas extra base hits more than Rochester yesterday.
  7. Lot of good SP performances this month. That's nice to see. Hope they keep it up in August.
  8. Apologies. I also dislike the phrase and am sorry I used it. It's on par with "let's unpack this."
  9. Big props on this trade. Trade an "established closer" with below average K rates for a quick-rising lefty with three good pitches? Well done. Now, is Watson.... Francisco Liriano or Wilson Ramos? As for the "secret sauce" it seems to me Falvey/Levine like big guys with above average secondary pitches and high spin rates. I'll bet if we can track it down we will find Watson has a big spin rate on his curve. As for the Twins "giving up", I don't think that is realistic at all. I have hated watching Terry Ryan sit pat at the deadline when he could have upgraded the farm system repeatedly by selling pending free agents. Kudos to the new regime for doing what Ryan should have.
  10. Angels are apparently looking for the 2B. Could Dozier to the other LA team happen out of the blue?
  11. That Davis guy can come up with some clutch hits. His homerun off of Chapman in the World Series would go down as one of the biggest hits of all-time had Cleveland managed to win that game.
  12. It should be an interesting two days. While Falvey and Levine were hesitant to pull the trigger on the Dozier trade over the winter, the one thing I have noticed this year is that they are very quick to make roster moves in general. Lots of roster churn in the first four months of their tenure. Now that they have decided to sell, will be fun to see if the same trend follows, and they do in fact sell several pieces. It would be a huge change from the dull trade deadlines of the past few years. Littell looks like a good target. Not too far away, great K/BB rates. And an 11th round high school pick, which after this year I have learned means he was likely someone targeted as a hard sign.
  13. I pulled up an old comment I posted this offseason, looking at Santana comps: "Peavy pitched a 101 ERA+ at 33, then pitched two more years, 108 and 74 at age 34 and 35. Guthrie posted a 132 at age 33, then went 102-95-72, done at 36. Lohse posted 133 at age 33, then went 115-107-68, done at 36. Millwood posted 88 at 33, then 127-81-115-90, done at 37. Loiaza posted 108 at 33, then averaged 83 and was done at 36. Doug Davis (106ERA+ age 29-33) posted a 108 ERA+ at age 33, then bombed to 57 over the next two years, done at 35. Steve Traschel posted a 107, then posted 88 and 94 in his age 35 and 36 season, playing sporadically at age 34 and 37, done at 37. Miguel Batista posted a couple of 103/102 seasons as a starter after 33, and became a solid closer for some of those years, lasting until 40. Javier Vasquez posted 81 and 106 in his age 33 and 34 seasons and then retired. Brad Radke, who posted a 110 ERA+ from age 29-33 posted a 104 at age 33, and then was done. Finally, Ervin Santana pitched a 124 ERA at age 33, with a 101 ERA+ from age 29-33 (including years of 74 and 90 in that stretch.). He's headed toward his rapid decline phase, although he might post another 100+ year or maybe two if he is lucky. He also has a history with PEDs, which may have helped him more in the past than going forward. The Twins should trade him for whatever they can get." I stick by that assessment. He's been good this year. He won't be good for long. Trade him now.
  14. Actually, I think it is fairly common to trade a guy who you recently traded for. There is no allegiance there. Plus, if Falvey gets a better prospect back than Ynoa...well done!
  15. I think you are doing this right, at least in terms of responding with just the right amount of tongue in cheek to the tongue in cheek.
  16. 5.5 games back of the division and 4 games back in the wild card. I think this series sweep clarifies things in a hurry. Both Cleveland and KC are smoking hot. I suggest the Twins trade Dozier,Santana and Kintzler.
  17. Congrats Brian on you 27th anniversary. I'm not sure we needed to know you intended to give her a Jaime for your anniversary though. I have an MLBtv complaint. This is going to sound odd, I frequently watch the games after they start or even after they are over. I hate that you can see how long the game is on the bottom scroll. It would be much better if MLB ran the feed for a flat 5 hours every game, and you had no idea as you were match whether there are five minutes left for the Twins to rally in the bottom of the 9th, or 35 minutes. Needless to say, the Twins didn't rally in the bottom of the 9th. And Breslow didn't help things by giving Detroit an insurance run. CBU.
  18. Yes! It's Jason Vargas, who along with Stuart Turner will assuredly get the deal done.
  19. Kerby Camacho is an excellent baseball name. Why couldn't Turley do more of that when he pitched for the big club?
  20. Rooker is slashing 000/000/000 in High A with a 25% K rate. As for the premise of the article, I vote "aggressive" and I approve.
  21. This deal should have been contingent on him returning Johan's Cy Young Award. On the bright side, Bartolo and Ichiro are the only two holes I have left. Once they are gone, there is no one older than me playing MLB. That means I still have time to make it, right?
