    I would like to see Emilio Pagan DFAed. The Twins have managed to accumulate some interesting arms in St. Paul right now. Which of these four players would you most like to see in the Twins’ bullpen down the stretch? 2022 stats: Brad Peacock, 46.2IP, 54/20 K/BB, .222BAA, 1.93ERA, 1.24WHIP Jake Jewel, 44.1IP, 50/15 K/BB, .179BAA, 2.44ERA, 0.99WHIP Jovani Moran (not great in 2022, but check out his minors career numbers), 245IP, 366/119 K/BB, .175 BAA, 2.87 ERA, 1.10WHIP Not a reliever, but maybe an option… Louis Varland, 116IP, 134/41 K/BB, .246BAA, 3.18ERA, 1.30WHIP

    Aaron Gleeman posted a lengthy story on this topic in the Athletic on Monday (“Twins’ blind spot with Pagan may cost them a playoff spot”). Here is one sample paragraph: Pagán has a 3.93 ERA in 287 appearances, including marks of 5.23, 4.83 and 4.50 the past three seasons. He’s posted an ERA better than league average just once in the past five years. His lifetime rate of 1.8 homers allowed per nine innings is the highest in baseball history for a reliever. And it’s rising. Pagán has allowed 18 homers in his last 52 innings, a staggering 3.2 per nine frames.

    Or end an inning. If he comes in to a game vs a leftie in a key two-put spot, he doesn’t have to come back out to start the next inning…

    In trying to answer the question posed, I went back and reread this article: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-twins-joe-ryan-talks-sliders-vertical-approach-angle-and-water-polo/ After reading it, I concluded that Joe Ryan’s ceiling is higher than where he is now.

    In the end both Mancini and Merrifield were moved, contrary to expectations. Interested to see how they fare down the stretch and possibly postseason.

    While the Twins have been exceedingly quiet during an increasingly busy trade deadline, my evolving of where the Twins stand is this: They are a team at the beginning of a lengthy window of contention, one that made several “now” moves in the off-season, has performed well, but got bitten hard by injury. While I don’t think one game makes a ton of difference, if they had lost last night and fallen into a tie for first place, the calculus for today might have been a bit different. But given where they are now, I fully expect them to add a starter and a reliever today, plus maybe a hitter (outfielder / backup catcher). I’m skeptical it will wind up being Mahle. Would love it to be Thor or Rodon. Am fearful it will be someone much less like Smyly. As for RPs, would love to see one of the Baltimore guys like López or Bautista or a Royal guy like Barlow or Staumont. But I think it more likely they land a oldish reliever who isn’t too great, but is at least something.

    Very good point on Robertson being the top of the reliever market, which may be why I don’t include him in my initial proposals (or Montas or Mahle). Like LAVikesFan, I’d be loathe to see the Twins part with high end options like Miranda or Lewis today or tomorrow.

    Would love them to trade for Robertson, and see Cavaco / Strotman as fair value. Not sure how much I’d value Smyly, but another lefty couldn’t hurt. As for Snell, I’d be game—but would the Twins trade for two of the Padres SP’s in the same season?

    I wasn’t thinking a comp in terms of situation. I was thinking a comp in terms of a high contact guy who can be an impact player in the postseason. Not surprised at all that Rosario excelled in the playoffs last year.

    Agreed that Merrifield - and Mancini - are Royal and Orioles staples that wouldn’t be likely be traded. On the flip side, they are exactly the sort of hitters that could be spark plugs for a team come playoff time, and maybe KC and Baltimore would trade them in order to give them a chance at playing some postseason baseball. (Think Rosario with the Braves last year?)

    Well, continuing to use the baseballtradevalues site as the basis, I view trading for Smyly to be worth about….0.1. I checked your write-up, and I think Canterino or Steer would be a major overpay for him.

    Using the baseballtradevalues.com page as a jumping off point, here are a few trade proposals to see what reaction people might have. Rather than go after the top of the market for Montas (28.1) or Mahle (22.9), working out one, or preferably two of these trades for slightly lower targets could upgrade the rotation, bullpen, and possibly outfield depth. Trade proposal #1, w/ Angels Twins receive: Noah Syndergaard (4.7), Archie Bradley (-1.1) Angels receive: Steven Hajjar (2.4), Edouard Julien (1.7), and Aaron Sabato (1.5) Trade proposal #2, w/ Orioles Twins receive Jorge López (5.6), Trey Mancini (1.9) Orioles receive Noah Miller (4.8), Marco Raya (3.9). Note Felix Bautista is 9.6; upgrading Miller to Wallner (7.7) could net Bautista. Trade proposal #3, w/ Royals Twins receive Josh Staumont (12.7), Whit Merrifield (1.0) Royals receive Matt Wallner (7.7), Keoni Cavaco (2.4), Blaine Enlow (2.2) Note Scott Barlow 13.5. Trade proposal #4, w/ Giants Twins receive Carlos Rodon (13.0) Giants receive Spencer Steer (14.0), David Festa (1.9) Updated to add one more… Trade proposal #5, w/ Rockies Twins receive German Marquez (12.2), Tyler Kinley (1.1) Rockies receive Austin Martin (11.0), Cade Povich (1.6), Jermaine Palacios (0.5) Could folks see any of these trades working?
