  1. Nice read Seth - one area I think the Twins are woefully unagressive is in the area of relief pitchers. Just watching a lot of ball this year, and there are a lot of hard throwing relievers in the game that seem pretty young, raw, but effective. We seem to sit on out relievers until they are 25-26, which is longer than other teams in my unscientific study.
  2. Until the Twins exhaust their internal options, some of which look pretty promising, I wouldn't trade a thing for another relief pitcher. Heck, they drafted a bunch that are near ready: Curtiss, Bard, and Reed come to mind. Rogers and Hildenberger worked out. Continue the trend.
  3. There was never a shortage of hitting on this team historically. .300 hitters were a given. Now, Rosario is our closest to an average hitter. Like bat heavy prospects like Kiroloff, or Rooker.
  4. Seriously, that's why former catchers make good managers, cuz they get it. Madden, Sciocia, Girardi, Hinch, Ausmus, Melvin, etc.
  5. Funny thing is, it looked like Dozier was on his way to being a more complete hitter in his second half last season. He was shooting the ball to right, and the average was a career high .268. I thought he had matured as a hitter and was gonna be a force going forward. Shows what I know.
  6. I thought I heard this exchange at the end of the inning. Torii: Really good inning for Gibson there. Dick: Happens about twice a year... Did I imagine that? Right after DB bragged about taking down "the bear" in the home run derby. Dick is getting a big head. Whoah Craig, you beat me to it.
  7. Torii talking Colt 45 malt liquor!
  8. Well, at least Rochester and the IL will make hay of this signing: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/bartolo-colon-part-several-minor-league-food-related-promotions-183422787.html Good old baseball.
  9. Cost-controlled, young and effective starters: the only way you acquire this is with massive overpayment, because the other team has absolutely no reason to trade them. Pie in the sky folks.
  10. This thread reminds me of AZ packaging Dansby Swanson for Shelby Miller. Risky business that. I'm also reminded of DeLeon for Dozier. Another bullet dodged. That's why I'd never package a top prospect at a premium position for a pitcher: they're fragile, or can tank suddenly. Ramos for Capps also comes to mind. I hope the FO will take the patient approach - we have some good pitching at AA that might make it here soon. Falvey is reputed to be very good at getting pitching on-board. I'm hoping he can spot a Arrieta or someone like that in someone else's system, continue to draft and develop, and go from there. Rome wsn't built in a day, and it'll take more than 1 pitcher to turn this staff around. I'm always thinking of sustainability, and throwing away top prospects at this point of the rebuild is premature.
  11. I sure wouldn't. I don't think Polanco or Vielma or anyone north of Rookie ball is anywhere near as good. This would only prolong the revolving door.
  12. Next year, please have Judge hit first in a round so we can see ust how many bombs this guy could hit in a full 4:30. He sure made it look easy. 519'?
  13. I'd take back Neshek for a low level prospect. Would not like to see Nick Gordon flipped for a reliever. Have we learned nothing here?
  14. In reality, they are all good to very good, and have their unique angle on things. I like 'em all, and think they should add Cuddy too. Compared to the Wild broadcast team, Twins' fans are spoiled spoiled spoiled.
  15. Lavelle had an article today - doesn't look like #11 is signed, or any of the guys we don't know already. http://www.startribune.com/twins-shift-draft-money-allotment-to-help-sign-more-players/432574743/#1
  16. Not sure about the rotation, but why the heck not the bullpen? The Twins never used to be shy about getting their guys in those 5th starter - relief spots: Perkins, Duensing, Swarzak, Manship, Robertson, Burnett, Crain, Mijares, etc. Most those guys debuted 23-24 ish, and some went on to fine careers. Bard should be up, and Curtiss too. Two of the better guys in the pen currently also follow that pattern, in Duffey and Rogers. Going to the scrapheap for retreads works once in a while, Kintzler, Burton, Fien, but I would give priority to the guys drafted and developed here. All the more so for spot starts: more Felix, less Tepesch.
  17. Interesting stuff. Makes me wonder what Belisle is thinking of when the phone rings. Post-game spread perhaps?
  18. Crap - given the results of recovering candidates from this, I'd have much preferred to hear he was getting Tommy John.
  19. I got to watch Felix pitch an inning in that ill-fated move to the pen in Cedar Rapids. As I recall, he looked pretty smooth and easy out there on the mound. Rooting for him.
  20. So that 20 second decision he mentions, was that the agent asking if he'd sign for that slot?
  21. 92 million dollars: sigh, you could fund a great non-profit out of that. Harmon Killebrew sold cars in the off-season. Mad times I say, like the 14 million the Twinks laid out on unproven amateur baseball players. The clock is ticking to where this will no longer be sustainable. This moment of doom and gloom has been brought to you by Chevrolet, Budweiser, and Kentucky Fried Chicken
  22. Granite is hitting .365. Next best BA in the International League is .316. His OPS of .931 is second. Given his speed and defense, solid looking prospect, no pun intended.
  23. Treat yourself to the Boston Pops 4th of July concert with fireworks, right on the banks of the river Charles. Hot crowded and messy as hell.
  24. Spent a year in Boston back in the day - the school I attended was near Fenway, and often on my way to Kenmore Square to catch a green line train, the game would be in the late innings in the case of afternoon starts. Pre-Papi Red Sox opened the gates after the 7th inning, so you could just walk in, which I did several times. Got to see KC Gary Gaetti his a grand slam off Clemens on such a day. I bought a ticket to see the Twins there, and after 4 innings the skies opened up and it poured and poured, for hours. I started walking around picking up ticket stubs, which in those days were rain checks, redeemable for a future game ticket, not a makeup game. I had about 30 in my hands, feeling giddy with all the ballgames I'd go to, when after 3 hours they restarted the game, 11:30 pm. Twins and Scott Erickson took the loss. It, well, it was a bummer man. I love me some Fenway.
