Buxton is the bigger disappointment for sure. Sano hasn't become the best power hitter in baseball, but he's still a huge power threat and plays 1b just fine. Could be better but still plays most days. Buxton gets a lot of love from war, and no doubt his defense is crazy good and he's really fun to watch out there. But he never plays for more than a couple weeks at a time it seems, and those first what, 2-4 years were pretty terrible when he was on the field. I like him but can see him out of baseball in 5 years, while I see Sano having a normal length career for a lunking power hitter. edit to add: Buxton was also a #2 overall pick while Sano was a international signing. The value of the #2 pick compared to just a cash signing hurts his perceived value, as we expect our top 5 picks to be face of the franchise players. And if anything that's the often maligned rosario, not the guy (occasionally) playing next to him.

I would have no problem going to a game for fear of falling ill. The main reason I don’t think I would is that the crowds and atmosphere are a big reason I enjoy going in the first place. And the other idea of spending a hot day in a half full stadium wearing a mask doesn’t sound like a very enjoyable day experience. That said, if hypothetically they announced a partial season that allowed fans in the stands, I’m sure I’d try to get tickets to the opener. I’ve got a $150 credit at stubhub burning a hole in my pocket lol

Not sure if this should be in "General baseball" forum, but since it is somewhat Twins specific I'll post it here. The team has announced that they will be refunding single game tickets through May, for games that did not occur. They will also be crediting season ticket holders and with an additional 15% credit towards 2021 or 2022 tickets. As far as tickets purchased third party(stub hub, etc), those need to be processed through the specific company used. I figured this thread could be a place for folks to get more information about the process, as well as share experience about the "success" of actually getting tickets refunded. https://www.mlb.com/twins/tickets/single-game-tickets/refund-request https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2020/04/29/twins-other-mlb-teams-offer-ticket-refunds-credit-for-games-not-played/

Can someone explain this more? Why would hospitals bring in medical professionals from elsewhere while furloughing their own staff? Is it a union issue? The "why" really isn't explained at all in the story, just that it's happening.

I always thought guys weren't supposed to swing at 3-0 pitches because the pitcher was showing they can't throw strikes and to just take the free base. Is it really because you're supposed to take at least one strike in order to make it more fair or something? Thats the first I've ever heard that, and pretty sad that these professional competitors agree thats the norm. Should teams roll out the b squad lineup when their ace is on the mound as well?

Also do really believe we don't win because we don't have the numbers? We lose because we run milquetoast candidates who stand for almost nothing. And then cry when we lose to people and systems that are set up to disenfranchise us, but they really believe in only one thing, winning elections and making sure they are "right". Y'all love baseball and want the twins to be better, with better coaching and better drive. Well lets do that in the democratic party. Its still our best defense against what is happening now.
-
Jesus christ, do you even believe yourselves anymore? You think a "Blue wave" is coming, because of brett kavanaugh? I'm as liberal as the day is long, and I've voted for your **** candidates because its in my best interest to not let the other guy win. Not because I've ever been inspired, felt any real passion for, by a democrat not named barack. Please aim higher than assuming the populace is dumb and ignorant. Even if that is true, we are still losing almost every election that matters. We go into a knife fight getting stabbed and lay down dying claiming we had the moral upperhand. ****ing fight, bring a gun if need be

Yeah, me neither, but he was the guy throwing the ball, most important guy on the field. Idk i doubt he's still thinking about it, like we are. He was just pissed cause he competed and lost, and I hope all those guys feel that way. Especially whomever decided to employ that shift. But whatever, its early season baseball. We all "know" the game only count for half in april, thats why its so fun in september! And if this makes a fairly boring series between two middle pack teams have interest in april, then lets get worked up over a bunt.

The one I really don't get is Dozier. Berrios was the pitcher, and maybe they really were challenging the hit ruling on his double last time up, so as dumb as it is he is going to take it more personally. Rosario, I'm guessing is more friendly with berrios being country mates, and both are young and whatever. Still dumb to be upset about it. But what is dozier on about? Being one of the vets on the twins, does he tell young guy, like rosario who did like the exact same thing, not to play to win? His quote was the most confusing.

I guess just to add my two cents, and have people more knowledgable than I refute or counter my beliefs, but I think minor leaguers should make a lot more money. Im not really worried about guys like mauer or now machado and harper making whatever ridiculous millions they make. They deserve it in my opinion, but it is more important to guarantee some more to the players just starting out, and not just in mlb and the fact they have basic control over a player for those 6 years. I think minor league players should be making close to the mlb minimum, maybe like $100,000 for A, 200 for double a, something like that. these guys are often time forgoing college or whatever else might help them later in life, and obviously most don't even get a cup of coffee. the teams are all making enough to pay like, 10-15 mil for these guys. that is the biggest issue in my book.

Can someone explain the LA-ATL trade to me? It seems like neither team really wants any of the players and both teams are benefitting financially. I don't get it.
-
I don't know, is Stewart really much of a risk to get picked? I mean like last year our pitching went from terrible to not quite as terrible, and he was like 9,10,11...on the minor league depth chart. I doubt any team can look at him, potential and all, but look at that and see a place on a 25 man roster. I always thought they should try to work out more trades using the rule 5 though. And Im all for the wakefield contract, for everyone. $4m/yr mutual option forever? If all the money wouldn't just go to the owners, and they'd make tix and concessions dirt cheap. But if Mauer would be into it I think that would make sense for both him and the Twins.

You guys still think all this matters. His base, the republican party, is almost half the population of the country and control far more than that. Its not just the far right, or the crazy trumpers or whatever, its the entire population that voted and will continue to vote for this trash as long as they are given the chance. And they won't do a damn ****ing thing about any of this. They will literally burn it all down before letting "the liberals" beat them. None of these people are going to prison, no one will deal with any reckoning. No legacies are tarnished, the people have what they've always wanted, leaders that make them feel smart. Woe is all of us. Maybe it was the fluoride all along.

Byung-Ho Park Signs With KBO’s Nexen Heroes
flpmagikat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good for him I guess, no sense to spend the end of your prime in AAA here when he can still be a star and more comfortable in his home country. But I have a real hard time believing the Twins would have signed a contract that said if you fizzle out and quit and go home we will still pay you. Actually quite the opposite. Wouldn't it be like a player retiring and voiding the remaining contract or whatever happens? -
Eh, I'm kinda sorta with you, the twins are a ways off atm from these top tier teams, and the astros certainly deserved to win. But last year people were saying similar things about the cubs, how amazing and unstoppable they were. And while they certainly are quite good, I don't think any mlb(or any other sport) has any teams that are other level. The warriors in nba are kinda like that, but even the start of this year shows that, while of course its important to have great players, and sometimes everyones clicking at once and it is magical while it lasts. But usually thats not the case.
-
Do people really think this was a great game? Exciting or interesting I'll give you, but that was pretty terrible imo. Awful, awful pitching, and a horribly inconsistent ump. Probably related. Seemingly a bunch of walks and hrs, with neither team showing any ability to hold a lead. It doesn't help that i think the astros are maybe the most dbaggy team in baseball this year, making the dodgers the likable ones. ugh

The Brian Dozier Trade That Almost Was
flpmagikat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, they got another "borderline" elite year from him, and (borderline?) made the playoffs, so that was cool. -
I don't know, his pitches seemed to move well and had the velocity. But not great way to end your tourney.

I think lakeville and Moorhead won earlier, Eden prairie beat wayzata and maple grove is up on Grand Rapids right now 2-0. My old neighbor scored less than a minute in! I am using this link for audio at least : http://www.meridix.com/mbp/hockey/index.php?liveid=msbnchannel2&recordid=115216&event_position=&event_type=hockey

Can be a general thread if anyone wants but I am wondering if anyone knows how or where it might be possible to stream games out of state? I called bww already and they didn't seem to have it. Thanks!
-
Yes very easily, but with the way Utahs districts are drawn( basically the state is in 4 quadrants with salt lake being split up about even with a little less for the north east one that includes park city) it makes sense. Also considering he is the most prominent congressman here for his investigations into Clinton and his position, I think it makes sense that people want to hear what he has to say, not on fox or cnn, but in person, about how he plans on ensuring the new administration is kept in check. I don't care much for the man, opportunistic and pretty crappy overall, but I think he has actual belief in reforming govt and not just the **** our current administration seems to want. And as I've mentioned before, people here are dead red and all, but not stupid and fairly libertarian. They hated trump too. So...yeah. I liked his and Cummings, even symbolic actions against Conway as well. I just can't imagine say, Erik Paulson going to a town hall in like Plymouth and being received so poorly, and obviously here is much more antipathetic towards "democrat ideas"
-
http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/02/09/republican_rep_chaffetz_booed_and_jeered_at_town_hall_meeting.html I was there and will say this was fairly interesting. This town hall was in the town I live, kinda like a Minnetonka or maple grove of salt lake

I think as far as the,"would Bernie have won" debate goes, obviously none of us know. We all think we have our finger on some pulse of American politics and this year especially most all of us were dead wrong or close to it. However I do know there are or were plenty of people who were turned off enough by trump that they would have voted for sanders for similar reasons many voted for trump ie they didn't believe congress or whatever powers that be would let his ideas really come to fruition. And they find him to be honest and decent man who is less dangerous than the alternative. How people find trump more honest and decent and less dangerous than Clinton I can't fathom but that's obviously a problem the dems and left in general need to do some real searching about.
