    I agree with that, Metellus is better when he gets to play LB/SCB rather than SS, which he is primed to be stuck at this year. Curiously, Jay Ward only played with the 2s during preseason and seems to be playing slot corner a lot, while Theo exclusively played with the 1st team at FS. So it looks like FS-Jackson SS-Metellus SCB-Ward. Jamal Adams looked like he was going to pick up some LB/SCB snaps ahead of Ward before he went down. But the Vikings unofficial depth chart has Ward clearly ahead of Jackson...

    Yeah, it feels like they could use a vet on the DL but they don't appear to be considering that. Banks is out of shape and won't play much, whereas the buzz on Orange has been positive, but he's always going to be a rotational guy. Ingram-Dawkins should be a passing-downs only DL but he might have to play a lot, and he didn't flash much last year in 250 snaps. A 37 year old Hitman isn't going to bump this defense positively in my opinion. He hasn't been in his prime for 2+ seasons and having to ramp up mid-season is probably going to lead to some bad early games for him... when he could have just showed up to training camp like the rest of the players. Gerhardt got cut from our practice squad, he was center #4/5 in camp. I have no idea why they bothered to draft him when he wasn't a top 500 player on some boards, wasn't that good in college and whadda know, his NFL career might already over. They probably just turned that pick over to an area scout who took his favorite 'deep sleeper'... but yeah, they should have went center earlier in the draft. Maybe over drafting the highest FB taken over a decade. The 7th round would be the right time for a FB instead of Round 5 and then blowing the 7th on a non-NFL caliber prospect.

    I'm critical of scorers that call obvious errors hits, but that ball zoomed by the SS's glove and didn't touch it... so I agree, not an error. Doesn't change the fact that Royce had a stinky game at the plate other than that AB.

    To think, before challenges were a thing this inning would have been over with that BS strikeout and it'd only be a 2 run game. Now it's led to 3 more runs.

    Good AB despite a questionable swing in there. Now that aforementioned warning track power can tie the game.

    Only 1 run deficit, if they think they're a playoff team then tying the game up at the very least shouldn't be a big deal.

    Dang, a cycle from ERod. I guess he will be ready for the majors next year, too bad they refuse to give him a chance to do anything in the majors. People say there is no such thing as a logjam, but I dunno, sure seems like when a top 100 prospect of yours is raking in the minors and is near the point of being out of options and you don't have room to call him up, that's a logjam.

    Only 2 innings? Seems to imply his return is not imminent...

    I don't see Bartholomew replacing Hockenson, maybe Yurosek + Bredeson can replace Oliver.

    Updates with the practice squad: There are a handful of other teams that carry that many, but yeah, maybe not the best balance. Yurosek and Bartholomew are barely going to play... and if you consider the formations this team is going to run, they'll use 3 WRs frequently with Jennings being a really good third receiver, and it's apparent they will use Bredeson liberally. That doesn't leave a lot of room even as many 2 TE sets as they ran last year. They have something like $20M tied in up Hockenson and Oliver combined this year, hopefully they move on to cheaper options next season. Maybe use that money to spend on defense, given we have one of the most expensive offenses in the game and one of the cheapest defenses.

    Wasn't just Fangraphs, and every prospect "may become a player worth noting someday". Personally I don't have a problem trading a prospect like Reyes who is far away, I take issue with it when it's for a pitcher who isn't going to help us in the playoffs and some even argue is a rental. I think Reyes' prospect rating is a clue that they will tender Kremer's last arb year.

    Multiple outlets had Reyes as a top 20 prospect of ours, not somebody I'd call a PTBNL. It makes me wonder if the Twins do plan to pay that final year of arbitration, otherwise it seems like an overpay for a rental who isn't even a guy who would pitch much in the playoffs if we somehow made it.
