  1. They're calling Ryan Pressly back up? He's had 3 outings to work out his kinks! He has the potential to be a good reliever, but there's a reason why we sent him to AAA! He has a 9.50 ERA for goodness sakes! I know ERA isn't the best way to measure a reliever, but compared to all MLB relievers with at least 15 performances, Belisle is the 3rd worst and Pressly is the 2nd worst (Dyson being the absolute worst) [not to mention their peripherals back this up]. There are other acceptable options - Hildenberger, Busenitz, Melotakis, Curtiss, etc... OK... I need to calm down... breath in... breath out... this team is waiving the white flag on the bullpen. They clearly don't want to exhaust the list of reasonable options they have. I understand that the best prospects have gone down to injury, but they need to try something else. Molitor is going to keep using Pressly and Belisle in high-leverage situations and we're going to lose more games because of it, but the Twins really don't seem to care.
  2. Twins are optioning Wimmers to AAA. Belisle and Breslow live another day. I think it's gonna be another guy on the 40 man, so maybe it's time for Melotakis' debut. But I'd rather see Busenitz or Hildenberger.
  3. Garver won't take over the backup catcher spot because he can't pitch...
  4. It looks like Breslow's making his way off the team. He's going to have to get in line [behind Belisle] and inflate that ERA to 9.00 before the Twins will do anything, however.
  5. Speaking of that, why isn't Polanco starting today?
  6. Oh whoops, my apologies, I thought this was the game thread. How embarrassing!
  7. Oh goody, Mejia's imploding. Can't wait to see 5-6 innings of this bullpen again.
  8. While it might be a cliche, the "hitters responding to the opposing team's scoring" narrative by Dick and Bert has actually numerous times this season. This lineup has been far better than I suspected it would be this year.
  9. I was going to make a similar comment. It doesn't seem like they're going to hold Belisle accountable. He's a vet and making a guaranteed $3M, so he's safe even though he's one of the league's worst relievers.
  10. I understand this strategy, but it sounds like the guys after picks #20-25 have a sharp drop-off in talent. Will there be higher quality players there?
  11. Man, it kind of stinks to see that this isn't a very good draft class after we tanked all of last year to earn this pick. I kind of wish there was a clear cut #1 guy we could take and not have any debate, but that wouldn't be much fun, would it? I know little to nothing about the MLB draft (I'm actually a huge NFL draftnik though), but I'll give my input. Wright's my #1 guy because I'd rather draft a college guy and have him up in the majors faster, but that's just because I want immediate gratification . Greene and Gore are #2 and #3 because of their upside, but they have some risks. Lewis is my #4 as he's OK but not really 1st overall material. McKay is pretty low as I wouldn't want to draft a guy who tops out at 91mph 1st overall. I know there's precedent for guys to pitch well at that speed, but an injury or two and then he's at the speed level of Tommy Milone. We didn't lose 103 games to draft a pitch to contact guy first overall! Maybe Greene and McKay can be batters, but I want a starting pitcher with that pick. That's all.
  12. Pressly has pitched two games in AAA. He needs a lot more time than that. This is the perfect opportunity to call up Hildenberger or Busenitz. Both have pitched superb all season long in AAA, and I'm still mystified how these other guys have gotten promotions ahead of them. Time to call at least one of them up.
  13. Former Twin Sean Gilmartin is being DFA'd. They could claim him and get him back...
  14. Holy cow! Santana with a bases clearing double!!
  15. I had Heston on my fantasy baseball team back in 2015, and he had some really good games, so I'm a little bit biased here. But there's really not much upside here - unfortunately the Twins are desperate and this is what they're going to get with all these injuries. Hopefully Santiago will get healthy soon and return... and pitch better too.
  16. I had no idea he's been losing about 1 mph every year since 2011 - no wonder why he's stunk as of late, he's only averaging 89 mph on the fastball! The Twins should definitely let him go after the season's over and let someone else overpay him - we are already overpaying a similar guy (Hughes).
  17. I know Santiago's struggling, but we can't make him the long man - that should be Hughes' job when he gets back. Not to mention Gibson should be in AAA. There just aren't any other options to replace Santiago with (Turley is a AAA lifer, don't think he'd be an upgrade).
  18. I didn't notice Escobar was catching (I'm just following the game on MLB.com). Crazy how we went 1-2-3 with those two out there.
  19. Oh wow, we get to see Gimenez pitch his 4th game of the season. You know your bullpen is bad when a position player has to pitch this many times...
  20. Busenitz and Hildenberger are pitching really well in AAA, they should at least get a shot. They're more qualified than basically everyone else they've called up so far.
  21. I don't want to be captain hindsight, but the leap from AA to MLB is incredibly daunting. People who want Melotakis and Curtiss to be called up should adjust their expectations. I don't think Rosario's call up was a bad decision - it's been fun to see him up and he's on the 40 man so no harm no foul.
  22. Eh, with this lineup, they still have a chance.
  23. Wow, Michael Baumann's considered this high of a draft pick? That's awesome! I graduated with him from Mahtomedi High School, so I kind of knew him. I can remember a time when my in-house team tried to recruit him to pitch a game, but he wasn't able to do it. That would be amazing if he could make the majors!
  24. Holy cow that was a fast bottom of the 9th! I went to the bathroom and I missed it! It's good to see the Twins pick up a win. This Angels team isn't very good without Trout, so they should be able to win the next 2 of 3 games.
  25. Mauer with his classic bases-loaded walk.
