  1. He may be turning 37 this season, but he's had his best seasons his past two years with Washington and St. Louis. In the past two seasons, he's accumulated a 2.15 ERA (3.18 FIP) and a nice 0.3 HR/9. He may only have a 6.4 K/9, but for $2.05M, this signing is a bargain. If Belisle can stay healthy, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the closer at some point. (Not that he should, mind you - but at the current moment the closer's either gonna be Perkins or Kintzler, so yeah.) I couldn't have said it better.
  2. My guess is they DFA Randy Rosario. My reasoning comes from Brandon Warne's article here.
  3. Flashbacks of the 2-3 good seasons Fien had, maybe? It makes no sense to give up on Kintzler when his value is the highest. If he pitches like he did last year, then the Twins should move him at the deadline for a prospect or two. If he turns into 2016 Fien, then say goodbye midseason. I've also had a change of heart about Santiago... since there are virtually no talented starters on the free agent market, I guess they should hand $8M to Santiago and give him a rotation spot. Hopefully he will regress to the mean and match his career numbers, and maybe you could trade him midseason. If not, it's only a one year deal, and you move on.
  4. Hmmmm... Castro's a poor batter with a big strikeout problem who gets on base at a decent clip. I'll have to look up how he does defensively, but it seems most people think he's above average. I'm glad they finally are focusing on defense behind the plate, but I have my concerns about giving a 30 year old catcher who's hitting .215 in his last three seasons a 3 year deal where he gets about $8M a year. So I'm feeling "meh" about this signing.
  5. I forgot about the Rule 5 Draft, the Twins can definitely fill that final 40 man spot with a solid guy. So does anyone think any of our unprotected guys will get claimed? Any Zach Jones-esque guys?
  6. I double-checked my sources and you are correct, he hasn't cleared waivers yet. Some have said that they expect him to clear waivers. Sorry about that false information.
  7. Getting waived is basically the same as being non-tendered, right? And not one team was willing to claim him and give him his arbitration salary of $8-9M... if I understand the process correctly. Well, Sano's got 3B all to himself now. I did like Plouffe, but it was time to move on. It is a pretty big disappointment that the Twins weren't able to trade him, but the market value of 3B is really low right now, so it is what it is. I hope he can find a starting job and have success elsewhere.
  8. Hmmm... so it seems the best fit for Vargas is as a lefties only platoon batter. Can Park hit righties well? Because then they'd form a solid combo. But I guess a Mauer-Vargas platoon wouldn't be bad either.
  9. Now there's a name that brings back some memories.
  10. I almost ended up going to this game. I'm kinda glad I didn't.
  11. If this is true... the Twins helped Fernando Abad to stop tipping his pitches and he had a much better season. Maybe if they can help Berrios figure out how to stop tipping pitches, he could do a 180?
  12. The Twins just can't seem to catch a break. They signed basically the only Korean so far to not pan out. I still think it's too early to call him a bust - I think his wrist injury has factored into his poor play. Or at least I'll keep telling myself that.
  13. I saw someone saying over in the Vikings Journal that users here at Twins Daily are no fun and act too serious. They need to read some game threads.
  14. It'll be funny to read this thread in the archives after everyone has changed their avatars. This discussion won't make any sense.
  15. And Duffey gives the Indians the lead right back on the first pitch. Can't say I'm surprised to see that.
  16. It's time for Dozier to get a PED test!
  17. What?! Buxton was in the lineup?! I didn't even know that!
  18. Actually I think it was an honest swing to hit the ball, it's just that the ball was in the dirt. So no, it wasn't hilariously late, just hilariously inaccurate.
  19. I tried this once back in high school baseball. I actually made it to first, if I remember correctly.
  20. I have a new idea for a game thread. I play Oregon Trail with a bunch of Twins Daily members on the wagon. We get to see who survives and who succumbs to dysentery. Does that sound like a good idea?
  21. Wimmers with the 1-2-3 inning! Finally, something positive!
  22. Well... let's see if preseason NFL football is more interesting. I think I'd rather watch the Browns' and Buccaneers' backups duke it out instead of watching this trainwreck.
  23. If you used that logic for the rest of the team, there might be only 5 guys left on the roster.
  24. Tonkin's been pretty bad as of late. Then again, who hasn't been terrible?
