  1. On the other hand, who would be surprised if Nolasco's elbow flares up again this summer and he needs to have TJS or worse, arthroscopic surgery to remove lose bodies or something. Recovery from that seems to take forever. Here's a thought - after injuries to Pelfrey and Nolasco, did the Twins hang onto Correia this summer with the intent to re-sign him?
  2. Less than 2 weeks after misspelling Troy Tulowitzki's name on 15,000 promotional t-shirts, the Rockies misspelled Nolan Arenado's name on (I don't know how many thousands) of promotional cups:
  3. The knock on Santana that I heard over and over going into ST is that he rushed plays, causing him to commit errors on routine ground balls. And actually if you look at his minor league defensive stats, he committed more errors on a per chance basis than Escobar, Polanco, or even Plouffe. More importantly, if the Twins thought so highly of Santana's glove then he would be starting at SS everyday. Gardenhire has always played who he believes is the best glove at SS, providing the guy can hit anything north of .600
  4. Holy crap, Polanco... I had no idea WAR loved him so much.
  5. One of my favorite things about mlb.tv is the ability to watch away broadcasts. Trust me, it could be worse. I challenge anyone to stay awake for more than an hour during an Indians, Rangers, or Angels game, for example. Or not punch the TV set listening to whoever the math-hating cowboys are that call Reds and Cardinals games. Dick and Bert are easily the best crew in the ALC (although I personally enjoy Rex Hudler (KC) quite a bit, in small doses) and probably in the top half of crews overall.
  6. Maybe the suppressed strikeouts are a result of Suzuki's pitch calling? Parker wrote a piece in May about how, last year, Suzuki called a lot of fastballs. http://twinsdaily.com/articles.html/_/minnesota-twins-news/minnesota-twins/twins-looking-for-leadership-out-of-suzuki-r2455 Seems like its still the case.
  7. I think the Twins hope Polanco is the future SS, but want to give Escobar every opportunity to stick there for the next 1-2 years (if not permanently), because they like his glove more than Santana's or Nunez's. I think they believe Santana is a defensive liability and would rather he work on those issues in the minor leagues if not for the fiasco in center field this year. And I think Gardy probably lobbied to keep Santana around (even after the Fuld pickup) because he is in love with his skillset - 1. fast, 2, switch hitter, 3. decent bunter. I think the Twins FO is ok because Santana was/is good enough to stop the bleeding in CF and maybe they started to see potential for a Bonifacio/super-utility type player down the line.
  8. That is the intent of the rule, and so far it has a 100% success rate. I see no reason to change it because of this one mis-play. Actually by Redmond's reaction, you'd almost think he objects to the rule in the first place. Maybe he didn't even coach his catchers to follow it? In any case, Cozart scoring is 100% on the Marlins, its not a failure of the rule. If there were cases where everyone follows the rules and there's still a collision, then you might have a reason to amend it, but that isn't what happened here.
  9. If Mathis had followed the rule, and stayed out of the runner's lane until he caught the ball, then he would have been able to tag out the runner in plenty of time.
  10. Is there a specific play that prompted your idea? I thought plays at the plate were pretty much going off without a hitch.
  11. Maybe not ideal but I say its a lot better context than say, spring training.
  12. Any chance you would make em unlimited again? I really wanted to like a "bitch Sox" post in the game thread but didn't have any left
  13. Great song. Reminds me of TV on the Radio a little.
  14. Chief's challenge. 5 songs for the rest of your life (or maybe its 6, or 8 now...)
  15. Eaton still barking about that call. What does he want?
  16. That's what we call Twins Baseball ©
  17. Was it against he Twins that the umpire had to get Bellasario to wipe off his arm? I saw a game about a week ago - Bellisario had a big glob of rosin on his pitching forearm (by the wrist) and the umpire told him to wipe it off. Reminded me of that time Worley threw a couple dustballs against the Tigers - opening day last year IIRC. The level these guys will stoop to...
  18. Is there any other version?
  19. Frikkin Eaton... Now I know how Ozzie Guillen was talking about with that Piranha business.
  20. Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline (sue me) Beatles - Day in the Life The Band - Jawbone Prince - Lady Cab Driver
  21. Poulson's DOB is 02-16-1990 He is no. 51 for the Elizabethton Twins.
  22. The average length of a Twins game is 3 hours 05 minutes, 50 seconds. By comparison, fifty years ago it was 2 hours, 44 minutes, 38 seconds. So even after lowering the mound, inventing the closer, the setup man, 100 count pitch limits, batting gloves, foul balls, shifts, instant replay, 9 figure contracts and 2 minute commercial breaks, Twins games are barely 20 minutes longer than they were in the Johnson administration. I'd be more open to rule changes if someone could convince me the game was broken but I don't think it is.
  23. Does anyone have a melon baller?
  24. So what are you saying - that TR had a trade offer in hand and put an ultimatum on Suzuki? I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case but we have no evidence other than the timing, do we?
  25. Sorry to nitpick but do we have any reason to believe the Suzuki extension was related to the trade deadline? I would judge them separately: A on the Fuld trade - I'm not that familiar with Milone but looks good on paper. D on the Suzuki extension - the other day TR said there were other things they valued besides framing, and mentioned durability. Well, hope they are ok with 1800 PAs at a .690 OPS and no added defensive value from the catching spot for the next three years. Suzuki just doesn't break and with $6m up for grabs, he most definitely won't.
