  1. I think we need at least one more Fast Times at Ridgemont High reference before this thread is over.
  2. Is it bad that I'm rooting for the Yankees to win and the Twins to lose?
  3. Herrera finally changed it up. Santana's hands are too quick to blow it by him.
  4. Doc, can you condense your posts? I drank a lot in college and my brain loses focus after about 500 words.
  5. 14 games way back in 2006
  6. Final offer - Mauer to LF, Pinto to 1B, Vargas to DH. Defensive improvement in LF, 1B, while getting around the backup catcher / DH problem.
  7. So you're saying he's injury prone?
  8. Parmelee and Arcia are liabilities in the outfield, I think think everyone's stats and eyeballs are in agreement on that. I think Hicks benefits from a narrative that says he is some kind of superspecimen, long strides, yada yada - he's looked below average to me. I'd prefer Santana actually. I'm unconvinced that putting Mauer in LF would be worse than Parmelee or even some of the FA options (has anyone looked at Melky Cabrera's defensive stats?)
  9. I cut it off at Pinto. Some of the rest of the "bad" weren't on the 2014 club but does include Santana and Vargas too. Kennys Vargas -1.6 Danny Santana -1.6 Darin Mastroianni -1.6 Kendrys Morales -1.3 Eduardo Nunez -0.7 Jamey Carroll -0.6
  10. I'm not sure that's true.
  11. I think this makes the most sense, but I think the Twins will be reluctant to do it, but I'm not sure why.
  12. According to fangraphs, the Twins are 26th in baseball in defensive runs saved (-23.2). Last year, they were 25th with -36.7 runs. The Twins' worst players over that span include a few players who will probably be in the mix for 2015: Oswaldo Arcia -19.2 Josh Willingham -14.9 Chris Colabello -11.4 Jason Kubel -11.1 Chris Parmelee -9.9 Aaron Hicks -9.8 Justin Morneau -8.9 Ryan Doumit -7.1 Alex Presley -4.2 Josmil Pinto -1.7 And some of the best defensive players probably won't be in the mix for 2015: Pedro Florimon 16.2 Clete Thomas 5.3 Sam Fuld 4.9 Kurt Suzuki 4 Eduardo Escobar 2.2 Brian Dozier 1.8 Jordan Schafer 1.8 Eric Fryer 1.6 Trevor Plouffe 1.5 Doug Bernier 1.2 Wilkin Ramirez 0.4 Do the Twins need to add more defense in the offseason?
  13. Who is the better bat - Pinto or Vargas? I like what Vargas has done so far, but his track record is much shorter than Pinto's. Its far from clear Vargas is the better DH option than Pinto, in my mind. If Pinto is the better bat, he should be the primary DH and instead we should be asking, what do we do about Vargas? Its also worth mentioning both players minor league platoon splits since 2011 are basically zero.
  14. Do we want Pinto cutting into Mauer/Vargas at DH?
  15. ? Boneheaded play there Martinez
  16. Poulson threw an inning on 8/21 against the Pulaski Mariners. He gave up a HR to 38th round pick Taylor Zeutenhorst (his first in 140 PAs), but struck out the side and didn't walk any. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=g_box&did=milb&gid=2014_08_21_elirok_pulrok_1
  17. Please stop taking live balls out of play and embarrassing the Twins' fanbase. -WH
  18. Will Hughes continue to walk 2% of runners? Will his HR/FB rate stay where it is? I'd wager no on both. Not that extending him is a bad idea but doing it now seems like the definition of buying high.
  19. If it were me I'd put Dozier, Santana, and Escobar in 6-7-8 in front of Suzuki at 9 then turn over to Mauer at 1. Those guys can scurry into scoring position for the 2 best contact hitters on the club and not waste too much risk getting thrown out in front of guys who might be more 3 true outcome types (Plouffe, Arcia, Vargas, Pinto)
  20. Heh, Drew Smyly with a CGSO today
  21. Feels good to wail on the Tigers
  22. Hold the phone, Mauer still needs to get a bases clearing double
  23. Today in ice cream news, the Dairy Queen on 49th and Lyndale won't have logs or cakes til tomorrow at the earliest
  24. I believe that was Dave St Peter's stated goal all along
