  1. Nolasco will be off the books after 2017 and Mauer the year after. For only 3 years would they all be on the books at the same time as a 3rd or 4th FA signing. They only make up a such a large proportion of the budget because they don't have anyone else to pay, and won't have anyone else to pay for many years yet.
  2. What would be the correct number of pitches? This complaint reminds me of a scene from a movie.
  3. At some point Nolasco's going to have to cut the beard off
  4. Mauer would have caught that
  5. Poulson got the start on Friday night for the E-Town Twins and it went horribly. In the first inning, he issued 4 walks but limited the damage to 2 runs. In the 2nd, Poulson began with a strikeout, then allowed 3 straight baserunners and was pulled. All the baserunners would score, giving Poulson more ER than outs recorded. He continued to show a tremendous ability to allow stolen bases (2), and threw a wild pitch for good measure. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2014_08_29_kptrok_elirok_1&t=g_log&sid=milb
  6. He got back to his changeup last night, throwing a few to right handed batters too, and turned off some really sharp breaking pitches. He looked so good for the first three innings...
  7. There was a graphic on yesterday's game showing opponent batting average against Trevor May with bases empty vs. runners on base. With no one on base: .261 With men on base: .500 (it was actually higher than .500 before last night) Small sample size noise? Check out his splits from this season in Rochester Empty: .206/.266/.294 (305 PA) Men on:.297/.409/.443 (193 PA) To make it more confusing, compare to his AA numbers 2013 Empty: .254/.342/.433 Men on:.258/.340/.396 2012 Empty: .245/.354/.427 Men on:.253/.344/.389 Did Trevor May forget to pitch out of the stretch or just get really good at pitching out of the windup? Both?
  8. There are people on one side of the issue saying games are too long and people on the other (including the Deadspin author) saying there are too many strikeouts in the modern game and nothing happens. Which is it?
  9. Santana has turned a corner since he refined his changeup. I think we're talking 20+/yr and 5+ years for Santana, Shields, Scherzer, and Lester.
  10. There are going to be ups and downs from draft talent - that's why diversification is important. The Twins have been behind the curve on new avenues of growing their talent pool - that is Ryan's greatest fault IMO. Since 2011, Ryan, like every other GM, had a chance to 1. Go over the Twins international spending limit to stockpile the top foreign prospects, 2. get a slice of the Cuban and Japanese talents before the market corrected, 3. trade prospects in an era where they were overvalued, and 4. leverage the Twins protected draft situation to sign premier free agents. A rebuild that relies so heavily on the draft and minor league development is going to be slow and aided by losing. That's all Ryan knows, so that's what we got. If the Twins are going to avoid these wild cycles in the future, they need to find someone who will seek out and identify new avenues of growing the organization's talent outside of the draft.
  11. Only Mauer and Nolasco are long term commitments. There is a financial window right now to make a big move. W-L or even position should not be a concern at all IMO
  12. Mauer could have thrown him out from left field and preserved the tie
  13. That does seem to be happening a lot this year Is baserunning Molitor's purview?
  14. Liam Hendriks has allowed 33 home runs in 119 minor league starts. He has also allowed 33 home runs in 31 big league starts
  15. Does anyone know where this "who's driving the bus" thing in KC started? Did Rex Hudler start it?
  16. Phew. I thought Arcia might get wrapped up like a douche after that grab
  17. Oh I get it, pitching duel. What do you do with a good pitching duel? Get a decent night's sleep. I think a swamp cooler is a hillbilly air conditioner using pine branches and a box fan or something.
  18. Is that like a swamp cooler?
  19. Whoa, what's with the purple guy behind home plate
  20. Yeah I'm not in love with too many in the bullpen, and I haven't been impressed by Tonkin from what we've seen of him. Maybe Guerra or Oliveros can fill a role, and Pelfrey or whoever is shoved out of the rotation but there will be 1-2 open spots by my math.
  21. Victory! I mean, poor, poor Perkins...
