    I believe the current situation is more like the early 80s than the 90s. There is talent on this roster. They just need experience and time to separate the wheat from the chaff.

    In addition to stealing bases, the organization needs to come up with a plan to teach these guys how to bunt. They are not going to score a ton of runs and will be in a lot of close games. One run in a handful of games can make the difference in squeaking into the playoffs.

    If it's any consolation, if they had all the guys back that they traded at the deadline it probably would've only added a couple more wins. I'm not a fan of this front office or manager, but all is not lost. If Joe Ryan and Pablo are back next year it forms the nucleus of a serviceable rotation. There are young bats on the roster and on the way. Some will sink and hopefully a few will swim. Granted, the bullpen is a mess. Pulling a bullpen together with castoffs and rookies can sometimes work. They found guys like Coulombe and Stewart for cheap.

    They are not spending a dime this off-season. I expect there will be further cuts.

    I really don't see the point in ramping up Pablo to make a couple meaningless starts. If the goal is to move his contract, wouldn't it be better to come back 100 percent next season and then maybe trade him at the deadline? I don't think a couple late September starts are going to have much influence on another teams decision about whether to pursue him.

    He's a hard guy to evaluate. Very inconsistent in both the minors and majors. I know injuries play a part in that, but that doesn't explain all of it.

    I disagree. Booing shows that people still care. The players need to hear it.

    I've lived through some dark periods of Twins in baseball, but this past year has been unwatchable.

    If the Pohlad's want to regain a modicum of respect from the fan base and show they're serious about winning, they could dump Falvey and Rocco. The fans are just tired of watching the lousy at bats, poor defense, sloppy base running, and general lollygagging. We can complain about the payroll, but at the end of the day Falvey and Rocco put them in the position they're in. Forget the payroll, the Pohlad's biggest fault is sticking with the same people for too long with no accountability.

    Just speaking for myself, I would respect them more if they just came out and said the team is losing money, and this can't continue.

    We don't know who the new minority owners are, but I highly doubt they will have any new ideas or interest in running the club. Otherwise, why would they only take a minority stake? Most likely it's just some rich guys looking for a place to park money.

    Under no circumstances should Clemens be penciled in as the everyday first baseman. He has performed better than expected for essentially being a waiver wire pickup, but he is not an everyday player on a good team. I agree with the other comments that Ober will be given every chance to hold down a rotation slot. The bullpen scares me (not in a good way). I suspect the front office thinks they can piece it together with waiver pickups and late February bargain basement free-agent signings, like they do every year.

    Good article. I suspect those out to villainize him are in the minority. In the end, it just made sense to part ways. If he had played better this year maybe they would still be in the playoff hunt, but it's easy for me to say that. Players, even the best, go through slumps.

    I will admit they have been more fun to watch this past week, except for cringing during the late inning pitching changes. I think the Twins would be even more enjoyable to watch if they moved on from Larnach and/or Wallner. Enough with these three outcome hitters. I don't find it entertaining.

    A very small sample, but Houston has been impressive thus far. Maybe he can help sooner rather than later, like when the Twins drafted Knoblauch.

    Does anyone actually believe Roden can be an everyday player? With all the outfielders coming up through the system, will he even be on the 40-man a year from now? You can defend most of the trades to some extent. They each had at least some rationale. I still don't know what the rationale was for the Varland and Stewart trades.
