I am not sure I agree with that statement, if it wasn't for the horrible fielding the Twins wouldn't even have been in this game. Norby maybe at one of the worst games I have ever seen by a major league player. From K's 5 times to not scoring from second on the single in extra innings, in between was a throwing error and a half arse attempt at a foul ball. It even seemed the ump on Lee's bunt attempt was trying to help the Twins out, it was embarrassing night of baseball by both teams.

Make It Official! Twins 8, Marlins 3: Not Dead Yet
TwinsDr2021 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Big win, must win, not sure they can afford to lose again. It doesn't help the yanks can't put away Baltimore. The Twins have benefited greatly from horrible outfield defense this year (at trait good teams do) Lee's double to right could have (should have) have been caught but it wasn't and the Twins took advantage. It felt like after that play and the bunt the Twins dugout went from looking sad and desperate to exited, hopefully those breaks propel the offense going forward.- 39 replies

Marlins 4, Twins 1: Woof
TwinsDr2021 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Prior to last night Lewis was 4/16 Jeffers 0 -9 Margot 1 -10 Miranda 0 -14 Santana 1 -15 Wallner 4-15 Larnach - 4-17 Castro 2-13 Farmer 3 - 10 Buxton 4-19 Correa 2-14 As you can see Lewis actually has been one of the hotter hitters. The whole team has been terrible, is this all on Rocco, nope, As far as expected outcomes, again don't care, just like I don't care about if a pitcher or hitter was unlucky to say how much better they are then how they did. I agree they are who they thought they are.- 133 replies

Marlins 4, Twins 1: Woof
TwinsDr2021 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At this point in the season I am ignoring all that and I am putting my hottest hitter 1st (Buxton?), 2nd hottest hitter 2nd, and so on. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Now I get it they all have been pretty terrible so whatever lineup they put out there will look like trash. But in a must win game, you have to ask the question which player do I want to get the most at bats, and if you answer Margot you should be fired, or if you answer if we lead off with Margot we can pinch hit and somebody else will get at bats, you should be fired. I am putting my three "super stars" 1, 2, 3, Buxton, Lewis and Correa (in some order), end of story.- 133 replies

Marlins 4, Twins 1: Woof
TwinsDr2021 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
For the most part Rocco has been Rocco since the 2019 season, I have seen a little improvement here and there but not enough. I said he needed to win a playoff series to keep his job last year. But this year really hasn't been much different from disasters of 21 and 22. Rocco would be a good manager for a team with stars all over the field but isn't one for mid salary team that needs more out of lesser players. I will say if this Front office isn't back the next one will be stepping into a very similar situation (which is good).- 133 replies

I hope the Twins get in and make a run. But if they don't get in, or back in and get swept there has to be serious consideration of replacing the manager. It will be very hard to get fans into Target field if that happens and Rocco is back. On top of salary cutting last year and possibly more next year.

The Twins or the front office always seem to be reactive to what is going on. They were slow to stolen base (weight have they did this yet), slow to the hey certain starters maybe should an extra batter or 3, because it reduces the work load on the bullpen. Hey the other team is giving us a free base hit with the shift, but no don't do that because there is somewhere between 10 - 20 % this guy could get a double. I have watched more baseball on TV this year than ever and it just seems the Twins are kind of playing a different game, plus I have never heard so many TV guys from the other team flat out make fun of the other team like they have with the Twins. I believe it was the Baltimore guys actually laughing when the Twins pinch hit for the lead off hitter and 3rd batter by the 5th inning, asking shouldn't those be your best players and you are pinch hitting for them. Diamondback announcers were laughing about a time where the Twins had a guy on first and they said well with the Twins it is pretty easy you don't have to worry about bunting, stealing, hit and run, or going the other way just don't give them a meat ball because they will hit a homer. And the next pitch was a double play and they giggled and said - "like we said"

Two Twins have played more than 122 games and one is a first baseball. Margot has played in 122 but as we know he didn't start at least 29 of those games.

A Postmortem on the Twins Trade Deadline
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wouldn't it be nice to have a healthy Stewart ever (not disagreeing with you) but the guys has been hurt most of the last two years. -
I agree, I want the Twins to make the playoffs, I would like it to be because of them and not because teams crapped themselves but I will take that as well. For transparency I am not a fan of Rocco, haven't been since 2019 when I decided he wasn't a good manager (IMO he has gotten better but still isn't good), but since he has been manager there has been a negative aura around this team (from the Fans) that isn't good. Similar to the end of the Zimmer ERA for the Vikings where the fans just came to expect negative things of the team and while there were bright spots and good records the fans always believed bad things would happen and eventually they did (because that how all but one teams season ends). The Vikings made a change and it rejuvenated the fans and the fans even were OK with less results in the terms of wins because they believed the future was brighter. Is it? maybe, maybe not, (lets not talk abut their GM hire) but the hope is back for the time being. IMO the Twins need to do the same after this season, bring hope, good will and dare I say Joy back to the team with somebody new leading the team (even if that person has the same plan) it would do wonders for the fans psyche. ( of course I have the right to retract this if they make the world series)

Only 67 players as of today has played 140 games, and they aren't the ones getting hurt, so I don't see how that addresses the injury issue. I think one of the issues is that young kids are required to stress their bodies at a young age (6th, 7th and 8th grade), doesn't matter the sport unless you play at a small high school you really don't have much of a chance of playing varsity high school sports unless you are adding a bunch of weight from muscle. My son plays football at a 5A school and if you can't bench 200 plus pounds and much more if you play linebacker or linemen you have no shot of playing. It is very similar for the baseball players if you aren't in the gym getting stronger you get left behind. Watch any MN state tournament and see how big and strong these kids are.

not sure if I should like or disagree with your post. I completely agree I don't ever seeing that be the rule. I don't agree they would ever force anybody to throw that many pitches or causing more injuries. They have talked about this on the foul territory show and there would be exceptions for runs, pitch count, rookie debuts, and guys coming off injury and probably others. Also different criteria for different parts of the season. What they are trying to get away from is a guy throwing max effort for 4 inning and being at 80 pitches because they are so worried about strikeouts type of starts and being gassed. AJ Pierzynski as a very opinionated take on this (imagine that right) about how teams are doing what they are doing to pitchers to keep costs down, take young guys and turn them into max effort, max spin rate guys throwers, don't teach them to actually be pitchers and churn and burn though them. I mean Brock Stewart has basically said that is the only reason he is in the majors (max effort 100% of the time) and he believes that has contributed to his injuries but he is basically fine with it because it got him to the majors.

Well if any FO isn't counting on the their top guys in the minors then they should be fired. But that isn't the point. It isn't even the point about Twins and their players, it is about the expectations of what players will become is greatly dependent on their age (excluding catchers and relief pitchers) when they debut. But you are correct there a the certain few that don't enter college until 19 get drafted at 22 and stupid covid, but if they are knocking on the down of the majors within 2 years like Judge for example they probably aren't going to be that difference maker. The Twins have a whole bunch of guys that are good to better but they all have flaws and that is why they took the time in the minors they did and having too many of them at one time is why you see what you see with the Twins offense. Everyone of them is a deserving of being a major league player without of doubt and when a few of them get going everything looks fine until it isn't, and I get the injuries to Lewis/CC/Buxton caused most of this, but again my statement wasn't about the Twins and their roster building it was just about fans setting expectations

My point was based off the others comment. The Twins were depending on Wallner, Larnach, Martin, Miranda, Julien and Farmer and they all fall into that category. All decent to good players but at this point not difference makers outside a hot streak or two. And teams need guys like this as a starter, platoon players, bench and depth you just can't rely on a lineup of them.

Should the Twins Bring Back Carlos Santana in 2025?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would say no, but if the he and Twins do damage in the playoff (if they make it) then I would assume he would be back, but that is the only scenario where I see it.- 95 replies
