    I believe pitchers/catchers learn unintentional signals by runners and learn when they are going to try.

    Caught Stealing/Stolen Bases: 2023 -- 30/94 2024 -- 22/112 Both Jeffers and Vazquez were above average last year ; this year Jeffers was 7 percent below average in caught stealing and Vazquez was 8 percent. Vazquez fielding percentage was higher I imagine due to wild pitches and passed balls.

    Hmm, the 1962 Twins had 185 HR and 33 SB, while th 2024 Twins had 183 HR and 65 SB yet the the 1962 Twins were 91-71-1 where the 2024 Twins were 82-80, seems '61 Twins were slower with only 2 more home runs but won more games with 32 less stolen bases. Odd as the 1962 Twins had a team WAR of 23.1 , including pitcher batting, but the 2024 Twins with a DH and all those team saving rookies, so many want called up to displace the veteran, only had a 17 WAR. I guess the plodding 1962 Twins just played the game better. 1st base Vic Power, only had a .421 SLG and .737 OPS but wait Carlos Santana only had a .420 SLG and .749 OPS, so First Base was near the same for hitting. Now maybe Early Battey's 44% caught stealing and 15 pick-offs and in the few games Zimmerman played haveing a 50% pick-off rate shows that a top defensive catcher is more than most here want to admit. The 2024 total team defense -- Caught Stealing vs Stolen Bases was 22/112; 1962 CS vs SB 32/42. I believe the Twins plodding on the bases, and going after hit balls is a problem, but far lessor one than it seems.

    1 run can mean a win vs a loss; 1 game can mean the difference from going or not going into the Post Season. Chugging around the field trying to field a ball like a dray horse pulling a wagon, means more bases for the opposing runners and too often more runs for the opposing team. Your analogy does not work.

    Diaz - as a catcher, much better than Jeffers; First Base - the creator of doubles for the other team. Wade Jr. - About the same as having two Mirandas on the team, but the manager might be foolish enough to put him in the outfield where he is a run maker for the other team. Casa - Twins would need a first rate glove at First to replace him, late innings, in every game; i.e. another Julien type glove. Waste of time to pick-up gents with Little League glove talent.

    Santan'a only bad year was 2015, a long time ago, and outside of catcher , and the short time he was at Third Base, he was never nearly as bad as Julien, Miranda in general, and with the exception of one Bad year, was good to very good at First Base from the get-go.t The Twins have had too many mediocre to just plain bad fielders; they cannot afford to continually try to be a Little League training school.

    Walker would be great but as much as I do not play with Twins finances, I doubt they could afford him, while so many seers here know Santana will fall apart any supposed gamble is far smaller than guessing Lewis, Miranda or any one with the Twins now can even be mediocre at First Base.

    Right now outside of Santana, Correa and Buxton and Vazquez, all the Twins have are mediocre players.

    Why would the Twins want a banjo hitter, -- (I have no dislike for banjo hitters but many here do not see beyond the bat) -- who makes Julien look like an all-star fielder?

    Baseball does not play in sleet at 30, or 40, degrees, period, I had been at the old Met. to football games in single digit weather, but then, I have , for a living, laid sod in the rain, and while snowing.

    Royce does not have the glove, or Arm , for the infield so putting him in the outfield would be silly at best. Too many, the majority probably, MINN. rookies have come out of the minors, had a pretty good, to very good, first year or part of a first year, and then slowly, or quickly shown they are not very good with MLB pitching, or fielding. Royce is looking like one of them.

    Hmmm, and how many more tens of millions would the State of Minn. been liable for. Blaming weather is a poor excuse. It seems sporting fans have wussied out in the past 50 years, football used to fill stadiums in truly frigid weather.

    T The Viking the last 15 years have been no better than the Twins, their post season has been lost, lost, lost, lost. Their only success was in 1969, the won the NFL championship. Since 2009, they have had 7 third or fourth of 4. Your analogy does not work.

    No it didn't leave any holes, it left a Grand Canyon that most likely cannot be filled Kirilloff retiring was one handicap removed; Julien and Lewis have holes in their gloves, but Martin is not horrible at 2nd and Lee is not bad at all at 3rd, so if Lewis and Julien go away, those spots are filled for now.

    I agree with what you said. A main problem, ever since Bud Grant made the Vikings more than just another team, is the Minn. new channels give the Twins the least amount of time on air. They babble on about the Vikings 12 months a year, and now it has become the same thing for the Wolves and the North Stars, oops I mean the Wild. Max on , up here, WCCO, is the absolute worst, it seems he talks about the Twins only if he has to. I watched part of two Vikings games this year, because they might do well, post season, but mostly because Cousins is gone; I have not watched a hockey game in 40 years, and I do not watch basketball at all. -- (Way back, before Minn. had a pro team, and I would on occasion turn a game, on fifty some years ago, I discovered no reason to watch more than the last five minutes.)
