  1. Isn't this kind of the main point too? There are only a handful of selling teams, there aren't a whole lot of great setup men ready to be moved. A couple of RH closers (KRod, Papelbon), possibly Chapman, and the a bunch of guys like Benoit, who are probably moved for salary relief as much as anything.
  2. Pushing a guy beyond reasonable expectation vs. someone performing once and taking the rest of the game off? Sure, no difference.
  3. Not at all comparable.
  4. Add a bullpen arm or two and see if the young bats can carry you. There is plenty of time next year to see if the marginal bullpen arms in the minors have a future.
  5. By "predicament" do you mean not in playoff contention? Winning games is really screwing up the rebuild.
  6. A high school kid playing his first full season should expect some dips. He seems to be right where he needs to be. Back half of top 100 lists.
  7. I still think it is seen as very temporary. I do think if he stays for a little bit he will start 6th and 7th innings (and extra inning tie games). Just don't see him coming in the middle of innings with runners on base.
  8. I would be quite surprised if they bring May into the middle of an inning at this point. At least a couple of weeks away from doing that.
  9. Probably a pretty good comparison. Certainly need to add in the non-stop calls for him to be promoted. And the likely outcome that when he is promoted and turns out to be nothing special it will be the Twins fault for how they handled him.
  10. Ok fine, limited value relative to an above average regular, but not limited value relative to half a year of a setup guy past his peak. I would love to make trades with you.
  11. I also think it was a reflection of the reality of facing David Price. Trying to steal a run when you can.
  12. I wonder if any of this has been discussed in approximately 17 other threads? Seems appropriate to bring up in a thread on Molitor's managerial decisions.
  13. Second. Generally where you want your best overall hitter. Doesn't strike me as a dilemma as much as an opportunity to drop the Plouffes and Hunters (if he is still here) and Rosarios lower in the order where they probably belong. All this would take Buxton coming back healthy and proving he belongs at leadoff, seems he is a ways away from that.
  14. I like the thought of calling up Arcia for Santana following the break. 7 guys for 6 spots around the diamond, with Nunez and Escobar at SS (and Escobar spells Dozier if needed), 2 catchers, and Robinson as pinch runner and defensive replacement that is DFAed when Buxton returns.
  15. No. If Plouffe is still on the team it's the right move for the organization to at least get Sano some reps in the outfield.
  16. Benoit is certainly declining, but you are only on the hook for the next three months. He would be no worse than the 2nd righty in the pen. I don't see the problem. Suggesting they would be better with Achter, Tonkin or especially Oliveros seems laughable.
  17. Absolutely. Would have been nice to have a reliable lefty to start the 8th, or a reliable righty to face Kinsler.
  18. Agree on this. In hindsight the trade wasn't a complete disaster, but the best move would have been to keep him for the year and let him walk. Also forgotten is that Gomez turned into an OK year of Hardy (what happened after that need not be repeated) and Mulvey flipped into a year and 2 months of decent production from Rauch. Obviously you want more, but that was some value that certainly contributed to a division title in 2010.
  19. You really underestimate Escobar's value. He should get more than half a year of a setup guy.
  20. I don't understand it either. Perfectly solid at the position of most need and really isn't going to cost much. Best case for the internal guys mentioned won't match what Benoit can do.
  21. And only half of this statement is true.
  22. Escobar is definitely competent, but Santana strikes me as much better with significantly more upside as well. In the short term, don't think that makes Santana more valuable overall, but maybe part of the thinking is to continue protecting pitchers. Personally I would ride this out through the break and then call up Arcia and send down Santana. Let Escobar and Nunez handle SS and go for more offense.
  23. Will be interesting to see if they move Plouffe in the offseason or if they have Sano spend a year (or two) moving around the field. Some 3B, some 1B, and some OF seems a likely outcome, as it always has.
  24. Defensive ability. Really not that mysterious (not that I'm saying it's the right choice).
  25. Clearly Sano needed time in AAA.
