  1. Good trade for Houston.
  2. Sounds good. I suspect it happens soon, especially for Pelfrey. I don't buy the veteran lock.
  3. Shouldn't we save some of the aggravation until they actually don't move on - assuming similar performance going forward. I think Hunter especially has earned a little rope - though he could probably use a few more days off.
  4. While true, this is terribly misleading and a pretty bad use of small samples. He had a great May, a very solid June and has struggled in July. If he picks it back in August a little does that mean he is back on the upswing?
  5. How is winning games a detriment to the future? They are both FAs after the year.
  6. 'Lack of energy" critique is so simple to me. A hit with runners in scoring position seems to pick up energy right quick. The best hitters are scuffling a little and there has been some mediocre starts. The team isn't deep enough to overcome it so they lost a couple of games (and LAA might be the best team in baseball at the moment). Has nothing to do with being soft or not having enough fight or quitting.
  7. I don't really buy that getting OK production from the two guys you got in return for a borderline MVP candidate isn't a culprit for your team's struggles. It is a huge part, in addition to what you mentioned. There is also a good point, that players so rarely get traded in the 2 plus to 4 plus years of control window for the reasons you mentioned. So hard to get an equitable return, as this trade proves.
  8. You referenced it but they'll do something in the pen. Boyer won't be on the team on Aug 1. It will be a trade or Tonkin (or both).
  9. These strike me as reasonable. I do wonder if they'll wait until the deadline shakes out. I'm actually intrigued by what they might do.
  10. Mike, for the record I was serious with the Arcia idea. I suspect that the Twins would have to supplement a little but depending on how the Os view Arcia it could be the start of a framework of a deal. I would support the Twins to go after Gausman, but they aren't trading Hunter. I'm not sure what the Os are really going for at the moment.
  11. I wonder if the Orioles are high on Arcia?
  12. Yes. I understand why mlb wanted this in the past, but with hard pools this is long past due.
  13. I agree with 10-15, but might be slightly higher if Buxton is still eligible - which he likely will be.
  14. And thanks for clarifying this. Of course they knew Lawrie was a downgrade, that is why the extra players were included. But the A's bet on convergence of their talents and lost - big.
  15. This strikes me as unnecessary on all fronts. No right thinking person thinks Beane is a bad GM, his record over the long haul speaks for itself. But he clearly made a series of bad moves that is going to set the team back for the next several years. It happens, especially for small market teams. Calling Bill Smith naive seems like a cheap shot that had nothing to do with this conversation, he was just over his head, a classic example of the Peter Principle.
  16. It seems he is more a deception guy than a stuff guy, so I imagine the Twins wanted him to take a second lap around the league to see how he did. As you said, good at preventing runs but some of the peripherals have slipped.
  17. The quotes on Suzuki struck me as the kind you say about a well-liked professional player right before you replace him.
  18. I think your pattern explanation is pretty close. I think they had a two year window and punted that second year for extended meh. I thought the Russell/Samardzjia trade made sense in the two year window but to turn around and flip him seems like squandered value. The Donaldson trade seemed to carry an assumption that Donaldson would regress a little (or at least stall) while Lawrie would improve. The As were wrong on both. I think they squandered some real value in the past year.
  19. Let's trade Meyer for Chapman.
  20. Beyond that, Walker doesn't really move on behalf of these guys - he'll be promoted when the Twins want him to take on a new level.
  21. These need not be mutually exclusive.
  22. I wouldn't trade Berrios for Chapman either, especially in the context of the current team. Which probably means no deal.
  23. It hasn't, that was certainly an aggressive point you were responding to. I was more thinking out loud on the keyboard when it comes to Stewart and using your response as the starting point.
  24. ERAs in 6 inning debut samples. Good talk.
