  1. Also false. You did nothing but repeat what was generally the scouting consensus about his likely outcome. People thought it was worthwhile to give him as much a chance to stay at ss for both value and need reasons. You would think people can disagree without feeling like some martyr. He was always a legit prospect even if he didn't stay at ss. Moving to 2b now probably sets up an offseason trade. Maybe they can get a c or sp.
  2. There is some middle ground between not reaching the ceiling hoped for from a #4 pick and having no chance to be a major league pitcher.
  3. (This is a little off topic). I heard Reusse make this comparison so I did a little reading on Bostock (who was before my time). Obviously a terrible tragedy, but what a bizarre court case and law at the time. Seems like a good comp though adjusting for realities of the two eras.
  4. I could see him having a slightly higher than average BABIP throughout his career. Dude just seems "hitterish". He'll never be a huge OBP guy because I don't think he'll walk a bunch, but I think he can cut his k rate a little and the power is legit. Add good d to that equation and that is a good player. He might fall back a little next year, but I don't see anything in his profile that suggests a Santana like collapse.
  5. Twins are now undefeated with Sano and Buxton in the lineup together!
  6. I would assume so. I also imagine Jepsen and Fien were no gos. I do think he would have gone 4-5 outs with May but more than 2 innings was a little much.
  7. While I would have just kept him in the rotation the whole time, I still think that either move on May was defensible - moving him to the pen when they did and keeping him there, or deciding to move him back to the rotation when they did and keeping him there. Doing a halfway move to cripple the bullpen while the team was clinging to it's playoff life was an amazing decision. Saying it cost four games is a pretty big stretch, but two sounds about right. They'd be a half game out of the WC right now and also know if Berrios might be able to help the rotation down the stretch. And maybe even have been able to send Achter back down and actually call up another bat to provide Hunter with some needed relief. I generally think people have massively overreacted to much of what Ryan has (or hasn't) done this season, but this was an inexplicable blunder at a crucial time and it's going to bury the team. But luckily it won't bury them enough that they'll cut ties with the 2-3 vets they should and let the kids roll. At least not for a couple more weeks.
  8. Kind of amazing they would not use their best reliever for 10 days for no reason other than to prevent their most electric arm in the minors from making a start (on regular rest). I was accepting if the move if it meant May would be back in the rotation full time, but this is a fiasco at a critical time. I'm ok with the Twins playing the trade deadline conservatively and emphasizing development of prospects over rushing them to the bigs this year (I'm aware others disagree), but basic roster management blunders are inexcusable.
  9. Correct. Twins would have to add him. They have a roster spot open and they will have a 3rd catcher. I wonder if he returned with a promise he would get the September call up. If so, wouldn't bode well for Pinto (though might be moot anyways).
  10. Or in Ft. Myers or prepping for winter leagues or many other things. Is it true that he is no longer eligible for AFL?
  11. I don't think they are concerned about burning an option. And they shouldn't be.
  12. Agreed that Urias is much better than Berrios. I wouldn't come close to trading Buxton for a pitcher of Berrios caliber. I want to see a pitcher get through a mlb season a couple of years before I would trust that he can do it (production as much as health) and would move an asset as valuable as Buxton. I think Fernandez is intriguing but I wouldn't trade Buxton for him either due to his injury concerns. But that is the right idea for a pitcher, a young, controlled starter who has been dominant. And even that I would be really hesitant. I think injuries and his poor debut have caused people to downgrade Buxton a little too much when thinking of fair return. Correa is clearly ahead of him, but aside from him there is a not a prospect or guy who debuted this year that national experts would obviously put ahead of him (including Bryant). He is probably just a half year behind where we would want him.
  13. My continual point with this is look see where? He isn't going to play ahead of Rosario, Hicks or Buxton (and all three absolutely need reps), and if they call up Vargas (or Arcia) that is pretty much all lineup options. I don't think he would come up to sit on the bench.
  14. Good point. I think it will be one or the other but not both and will depend a lot on health.
  15. Two weeks away, who do you think the Twins call up? I'm assuming the 4 pitchers on the DL are still there on September 1 and no trades (though I wouldn't be stunned if they add another reliever). I'll go 6 additions: Buxton Vargas Polanco Meyer Tonkin A catcher - likely Fryer, but maybe Pinto is a dark horse if he can get right. Kepler isn't coming up to sit on the bench. Polanco jumps Santana because of injury/ineffectiveness. Arcia does nothing the rest of the year and the Twins give him a long offseason to contemplate his future, with a chance to win a part time gig in the fall. I don't think they add any arms that aren't on the 40 man.
  16. I suspect Meyer is promoted in September ahead of basically anyone in AAA other than perhaps Tonkin.
  17. I think in general they just don't spend on multiyear deals for fa relievers for reasons beyond straight cash. Whether or they bring back Hunter, they are going to spend something on a one year deal for a veteran OF, or perhaps they just keep Robinson.
  18. I assume Vargas has passed up Arcia as the likely September call up. Will be interesting to see when Buxton finally gets back up.
  19. I'm not sure the extra $5 mil is what prevented them from getting a backup catcher or additional bullpen guy. More of a difficulty in getting a guy at that price for one year that is worth it.
  20. No on all those prospects for Buxton, but I certainly agree that Fernandez would be a very intriguing idea.
  21. I would say the opposite. The versatility of the starters (all can play all 3 positions) allows the Twins to give up some defense for more bat. Not saying that's Hunter but there is flexibility to go pretty much any direction.
  22. I don't especially want Hunter back either. But I would like the Twins to have an OF in addition to the starters Rosario/Buxton/Hicks and Kepler in the minors.
  23. Absolutely.
  24. True, but he was also hurt towards the end of the year so not a huge surprise. Small sample size and all, and nothing huge by any means, but his k rate has been creeping up this year since the end of June (while his gb rate has been dropping).
