  1. I know this may not be exactly on topic, but am I the only one who hates the fact that baseball is now grooming "utility" players from A ball on? If I am, feel free to give me the thumbs down. 🫣
  2. I wish I could argue with you. I want to argue with you. I need to argue with you. But I can't argue with you. It should never have gotten to this point. On a macro level, pitching has become what you said. On a micro level, it doesn't have to be this way. Pitching is like real estate: location, location, location. Pitch to a spot and you can have success. Throw 100 mph in a bad spot and it doesn't matter, but your arm sure feels it. Learn to change speeds well, learn how to adjust mid game, and location. Radke had a pretty good career. Glavin and Maddox are in the Hall. Learn how to pitch; anyone can throw. Oh well, I know I am spitting into the wind. You are right; this is the current state. It is what it is, and we have to live with it, but I don't have to like it. 🤔
  3. On second thought, maybe we should just hold a try out camp for pitchers, pitching coaches, managers, and general managers. What have we got to lose? 🥴
  4. Is there anyone in the entire organization that could give you 6 innings and keep you in the game somewhat? If so, bring him up now; if not, start looking at trade possibilities. We don't need any more "starters" who go 3 2/3 - 4 2/3 innings allowing 3-5 runs; got enough of those already. Is there ANYONE in the vaunted pitching pipeline we can turn to?
  5. Geez, I missed everything tonight. Could someone fill me in as to which missed strike call cost us the game?
  6. Personally, I do appreciate Matt, and the fact he is from just up 35E from where I live makes it impossible not to root for him. But, Nick, after 661 plate appearances he is one of the best hitters in franchise history? In MN, or the franchise? I can think of a pretty high number of hitters in our franchise history I wouldn't lump Matt in with just yet; not after 661 plate appearances, even just the time in MN alone. And I am guessing he would be the first one to say that as well. As much as I love the guy, and I hope he does make the HOF, get back to me sometime in the 2030's and we will toss around the numbers and the comparisons then. In the meantime, you are right - we should appreciate what we have in Matt.
  7. I just read an article from The Athletic talking about Ober, and how his velocity is down from previous years, and even down from his low point this year. Ober himself has said, very recently too, that he believes his mechanics are off and he is working on them. It is great he went 7 tonight, but the 5 runs may be a result of the above mentioned two factors. If that is true going forward, we may have to worry about the rotation more than we thought. I am anxious to see Bailey in his next start or two and see if he works it out. We definitely need him.
  8. That all sounds wonderful..........if Adams is everything Codie makes him out to be. If he is a AAA pitcher not quite ready for prime time.........what is plan B? For now, I am choosing to believe Codie has it nailed and we are going to weather the storm. As always, hope springs eternal.
  9. I worry about the bullpen tonight with Alcala, Funderburk, and especially Bride not being available.
  10. The worst bullpen in baseball is going to go with a bullpen game this afternoon? As the poet once said, "It is to laugh". 🫠
  11. I also wonder about the identity of the team after last year's collapse. So far this year I have us 13-2 against the 3 last place AL teams, which if my public education math lessons taught me right, would make us 21-25 the rest of the way so far. Last year we were 12-1 against Chicago and 70-79 against the rest of the schedule. We can definitely beat up the worst of the league(s), but are middle of the pack otherwise. The next few weeks before the deadline will determine what we need the most I suppose, but it might take more than just one bat. With Lopez down for a while will our starters keep the pressure off the pen? Will another short term arm there be the difference? A lot of questions will get answered in the next few weeks.
  12. Ah, yes, pre-planned. As a former supervisor of mine once said "we need a plan......we have got to have a plan......I don't even care if it is a GOOD plan......he would have done well on the Twins. Never look a gift plan in the mouth. 🤕
  13. Your premise #4 makes me wonder how the next CBA is going to go. Adding all MILB players to the union I assume gives them a vote; if so, they will have the numbers to affect this type of an issue, as well as others involving the ups and downs/promotions and demotions as well as MIlB salaries. It will be interesting to keep an eye on. Any thoughts along those lines? Am I way off?
  14. Could Royce Lewis Benefit From a Minor League Reset? Let's see.........how can I put this......... YES!
  15. I keep waiting for the chariot to turn back into a pumpkin, all the while hoping the clock never strikes midnight. How many times can minor miracles happen before our eyes? Or are we really that team, not the one who found ways to lose our way to 13-20? This has been a rush; can it last another 106 games? 🫣
  16. Instead of selling the team, why not just trade the team for Skenes? Or would he have to stay with the team we just traded for him.........🧐 Hey, it is just as realistic as the other 2 scenarios.......😠
  17. Okay, I know this is Sooo 20th century, but is it possible, just possible mind you, that the fancy computers that give out all the stat info shared here also spit out info on how to pitch to the guy and the pitchers are succeeding? As a wise man once said, you can hit it as hard as you want, but if you hit it where the pitcher wants you to hit it, you are just as likely to be out as if you dribbled it. Maybe the league just caught up with him and the adjustments he is trying to make aren't the right ones? And when the next adjustments ARE the right ones he will be back to the Royce we knew and loved? Hitters aren't the only ones with advanced tools; pitchers use them too. But, as always, I can be educated. 🫠
  18. Brings to mind the old saying: I didn't say it was your fault, I SAID I was going to blame you! 🙃
  19. As much as I feel for the guy, and as much as I hope he does work it out, a contending MLB roster is not the place to be working on your swing and trying to get right again. He appears to need some time out of the spotlight to get his head on straight again and his swing back. Send him across the river for a while and I'll bet we see him back before the All Star break. But he can't bring this roster down while he gets it together.
  20. 50 years or so ago my father taught me a lesson I have always remembered. He asked me "what is that worth"? And I would try to guess. Then he found something else and asked me the same thing. And I kept guessing. Finally he said "there is no set answer for anything. What is anything worth? It is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it at the time it is put up for sale. What it is worth to you may not be what it is worth to someone else. That's why they call it negotiating." I still think this is going to take a while unless someone comes along who just wants to own a baseball team and isn't worried about the money. And if that person were out there we would probably already have a sale, so..........I still think this is going to take a while. 🥴
  21. Frankly, I don't see any of the position players making it, primarily because of the numbers crunch. The 3 pitchers Cody talked about all deserve to go first, in my opinion, and we probably won't get all 3 of them. In terms of fan voting, Buck and CC have name recognition and might do well in the voting, but I don't think either will finish first and the manager picks will likely go to our pitching staff first. And I think they should; they are the reason we are where we are. They deserve it.
  22. I hope you enjoy the 30 parks as much as a baseball fan can. Share a little bit of it with us if you are willing/able. I envy you. 😇
  23. Well, Nick, you may be right. If I am waiting for this team to be sold, I may be waiting a long time. I read an article in one of the national rags just last night that was saying at least 3 potential buyers were walking away due to the price, the debt, the lack of attendance, and the potential for a lockout after the CBA expires. We may have this owner for a while it seems, so what we see is what we are going to get; at least for the near future. So maybe we should just enjoy the game of baseball; forget everything else.
  24. In my extremely humble opinion one of the guys who deserves quite a bit of credit for the turn around isn't even in the pen. I give Paddock credit for giving more quality innings and not needing 4 pitchers behind him every time he starts. When both he and SWR were being pulled early it required too many times that several pitchers had to be used in one game, increasing the chances one of them would be off that day and give up the game. His deep, and quality, starts recently has really taken the heat off the pen and allowed the innings to be spread out and no one is over used as much as earlier. No pen is going to be invincible when they have to pitch 4 out of every 9 innings pitched most of the season; too many opportunities for off outings. If the trend of the starters going deep continues, our pen may very well be the best in the league on going.
