  1. I don't think you'd be dealing Dozier at peak value. He's had a GREAT start but teams are still going to be wary of him. Hold on to him until someone forces you (whether that be Dozier himself or Rosario or whomever) to make a move.
  2. Chicago matches up better with St. Louis because their D are more physical. My wife is a Hawks fan and I told her that would be a better matchup. So we're both happy today. Now we'll see how it plays out.
  3. Hell yeah! Colorado and not St. Louis!
  4. Sounds like the biggest difference for Lohse was an emphasis on mental preparation and scouting reports. It also sounds like Lohse almost completely credits Duncan. I think it would be unfair to compare Anderson to (by far) the best pitching coach in baseball, but it may be yet another datapoint in the growing pile that says we have a need for change there. We're not even remotely maximizing the talent we have IMO.
  5. Man does Hicks have trouble with plays he has to go back on. That ball should've been caught.
  6. And yet here we are so far. 10 games in and we need a 13th pitcher in the bullpen due to starter ineffectiveness. Long way to go, but it just goes to show each of these guys had major question marks.
  7. 2 OF injuries and we are depleted of options to call up to replace them. Oofta. Nice to see Tonkin though, hopefully he can get a good chunk of innings.
  8. The Blues recent slide and us breaking our streak of losing to them will help for sure. Zulgad wrote a piece on how playing them would also create a really fierce rivalry in all likelihood, so there is that potential positive out of it too.
  9. Their signings were still an overwhelming positive for this franchise. The problem is people became convinced they represented 100% odds of improving the team. Which was far from a foregone conclusion. (And the opposite, 10 games in, is also far from such a conclusion)
  10. Yeah but the Blues are such a heavy dump and chase team. The Wild are at their best, IMO, against teams that try to enter with speed. The Blues are the total opposite of that.
  11. I think the notion of even doing this reflects how desperate we are for something positive to hold on to.
  12. It's not about tight defense IMO - it's that the Wild just can't physically hack it with them. They break down because they get beat up. The Wild are much better about containing and defending speed. Physicality has been their weakness for a long time.
  13. That may be the saving grace. Either way, I'd still prefer to avoid them. Cmon Colorado!
  14. Well the floor is likely driven by the season tickets purchased for a chance at the all-star game. I'd be surprised if we dipped too much below 15,000 for many games.
  15. I'm glad to see you're coming around to my offseason gripe about finding a hole for Correia to fall into.
  16. I think it's more frequent then you might think. The issue is that you're looking at it from a results point of view and I look at it from approach. When Mauer annoys me or I feel like being critical is when he deliberately remains passive because that's his way. I can only speak for myself, but I would be just fine if he got more aggressive and it was still only singles. I don't fault the guy for being a line drive hitter. But man would I like him to lace a few more singles on those grooved "strike ones" then he currently does. Particularly in crucial situations. I'm also a bit dubious of how much he's tried to change his approach. I'm curious when people think this was attempted.
  17. We're ten games in and already our run differential is -13. Strap in Twins fans...it's going to be a long one.
  18. Well, he could certainly will himself to try a bit more often. I think that's the crux of the issue. If had spent a stretch trying, failing, and went back to what worked - ok. But part of the issue people have with him is his staunch refusal to break his strict tendencies no matter what the situation/role dictates. As someone who thinks he gets criticized too much for being an elite hitter....I'd be lying if that didn't irk me. And it does seem to be irking me more as his career goes on and his role has expanded.
  19. It's only a fraction of the season, but nothing has happened that wasn't said before the season by some of us: shallow options against injury, a likely bullpen regression, an offense that doesn't do much of anything well, and a pitching staff that is far from a sure thing to be an improvement. Lots of time to turn it around and probably not time to judge until closer to mid May. But Powers is right, the Twins don't have a lot of goodwill to keep the tickets selling if they can't generate some positivity with their play.
  20. Bah...April games don't count. Everyone knows that!
  21. I wouldn't call 46th "highly". It's good and contributes to his excellent OBP, but he isn't a walks machine. I mean, he's half of what the top 4-5 typically are at. People treat it like he's top 10 in walks every year and that simply isn't true. (Even his detractors often exaggerate this)
  22. Good facts. His first pitch strike percentage was lower than I thought too. to the last poster: no his unintentional walks are nowhere near the top end. Go look that up. He does well, no doubt, but he's isn't a league leader. also, just to be clear, I'm not slighting Mauer. He has an excellent eye at the plate and his OBP is a credit to him. But the idea that he doesn't hit aggressively in key situations is that he doesn't see hittable pitches is false IMO. That excuse doesn't fly to me.
