  1. Only one of those three was realistically on this roster right now. The problem was targeting Presley in a trade and then giving him away for nothing. That and spending the offseason acquiring guys that are husks of good players.
  2. I want to double like your post if I could, this is precisely it.
  3. That's just it, Bartlett embodies precisely that problem.
  4. I think all this "It's only the 25th roster spot!" stuff misses the forest for the trees. If your 1-9 is going to be a combination of bad, easily hurt, or coming off a poor season....you'd hope your bench would at least offer you some alternatives that are at least intriguing. This is a lineup with huge questions, a bench with little to offer, and AAA stacked with guys like Wilkin Ramirez as the next best options. The frustration has more to do with how poorly the offensive side of the roster was constructed than about who slots in at what spot.
  5. Who are they being replaced by exactly? The offense is a huge question because there are too many questions about the players in it to even enumerate.
  6. Yowza. That's all I've got.
  7. I predict this will largely be true.....and I have another prediction to go with it: Bremer and Blyleven are going to run into the ground this familiar meme: "The pitchers are struggling because there is so much pressure to be perfect when you can't count on more than 1-2 runs from your offense" Book it.
  8. Nick's not arguing it, but others are: I thoroughly dislike the "it's only the 25th spot" counter-argument. If the 25th spot matters that little how about we just have 24? If not, then it does matter. I'd argue it matters even more when you are running out a lineup with this many question marks. I'm not ready to judge this move completely yet until the 40 man dust settles, but let's not pretend this roster spot is utterly unimportant either.
  9. None of those players have anything to do with this. We were going to get to see them regardless of this.
  10. Sign better ones? I don't get how people think there is some way to wiggle out of this for the Twins. These options stink. These are the options the Twins chose to go with into ST. No matter how you slice it the roster looks woefully unprepared.
  11. Well Twins....let's see what you're doing, because so far this doesn't make much sense.
  12. Sometimes the guy just needs the ball to run with. Perkins was all but cast aside for similar bouncing around. I'm a big fan of giving the guy a role and a lengthy opportunity and then judging. If you didn't give them a certain role and enough opportunity you leave open the possibility of being mistaken.
  13. Baseball will always be special to me because it is, BY FAR, the sweetest game to just listen to on the radio. To be busy doing something else in busy summer weather and have the sounds of a ball game on the radio is priceless to me. I love many things about the other major sports, but none of them can touch that unique feeling of baseball, summer, and the radio.
  14. Probably, but Diamond has shown some ability to be a successful big league pitcher. He just has a razor thin margin of error in his style of success. I share the frustration with that type of pitcher....we all endured Blackburn after all. Here's just me playing devil's advocate a bit....People are ready to toss him aside as though he's garbage along with Worley..but you're also talking about two guys that prior to last year had ERA+ of 116 and 96. (And 127 the year prior for Worley) Correia has never done that. Hughes has only 103 as his top season. Nolasco was 124 five years ago. I'm not suggesting Worley or Diamond are those excellent seasons they had, but they have been successful contributors which is more than many can say. I'm happy this move is coming because Gibson has a spot, but I'm hoping Diamond clears and we might still find some value out of him.
  15. Let's hope Gibson and Hicks do the same this year - even in an awful season I want reasons to watch and be excited for the future.
  16. We're a LONG way from a conclusion like that. I'd venture to bet a year ago you would've said something similar about those same two players. I'm thrilled Gibson made the rotation and commend the Twins for that brilliant move, but I'm unconvinced about Johnson, Gilmartin, etc. I'm hoping Diamond passes through and represents another option in AAA.
  17. I'm going to suggest that you misread that paragraph. Nick wasn't projecting all those things to happen, he was noting all the different areas in which even one injury might cause some headaches. He just said them as one stream of thought, not projecting them all to happen. It's the same thing I noted in the other thread, there is virtually no position on offense the Twins could see an injury or awful performance in which they have a feasible backup plan. The odds of the Twins having zero injuries to their offense is HIGHLY unlikely. It's not pessimism to point out how shallow this group is.
  18. Projecting injuries isn't pessimism. Injuries are a reality all teams face every year to varying degrees. What is inaccurate is a projection with no care for depth against injury, that's completely unrealistic.
  19. The team made a nearly unprecedented move to keep Gibson and I lauded them for it. Still do, but you argued the three guys were going to give depth. Only one is and the other two (an opening day starter and a guy all the optimists said wouldnt regress too badly) are now both gone for nothing.
  20. It's progress that they didn't choose Diamond over Gibson. It's also not what many made it out to be about our "depth" this year. Should an injury happen we're still turning first to 30ish journeymen or fringe prospects.
  21. Hard to disagree with a blog that said basically the same things I've been saying. So....great blog! If the Twins lose Diamond and Worley, the depth on both sides of the ball gets more questionable. Maybe not worse that last year, but huge unknowns.
  22. I'm not saying it doesn't, I've been very clear to not cite the team as the sole cause. It could be 60/40 Worley/Team or 33/33/33 Personal/Injury/Coaching. I don't know what the cause is, but I do know the result is aggravating. It's also aggravating to watch two threads about the disappointment of this result turn into Revere bashing as a way to side-step the real issue.
  23. Most of my angst is wrapped up in how far he fell in under a calendar year. How we got him is irrelevant to that.
  24. Yeah, we don't need to repaint reality and say Revere is a 4th outfielder to excuse the team. There may be many factors beyond their control on this, but that they got a steal to get him thrown in because Revere isn't very good/valuable? That seems silly. Worley was a valuable piece and, at one point, sat high enough in this organization's pitching ranks to be an opening day starter. No matter how you slice it, this is a huge loss to the team to be in this position. Who is accountable to that I don't know. But it sure isn't something to dismiss out of some bizarre (and incorrect) argument about Revere's value.
  25. Given this group's question marks (more talented and more likely, sure, but still huge question marks), +8 is most certainly not the floor for this staff, it's much lower than that. Or we might, once again, have an issue with people not understanding what a "floor" is in a projection. If you think worst case with this group is +8 WAR you are definitely overly optimistic.
