  1. Sure could use Arcia right now
  2. You don't wanna know.
  3. Man, in a year or so when Kepler is knocking on the door this Mauer stuff is going to get out of control. And probably deservedly so.
  4. Good for Denard, he always struck me as a really good dude.
  5. We have a younger, likely better replacement, and Plouffe's age and team control are going to force some choices soon. Personally, I'm shopping him because he represents one of our best options to improve the team. Say you move him for Plawecki, then Sano slides to 3b, the DH opens up, and you get a viable catcher. That makes the team much better.
  6. I think my top target is Andrew Susac from San Fran. He may be a guy you'd have more luck shopping Kepler to get. After that here are some guys I consider, in no particular order: Adeinny Hechavarria (the kid can pick it, so if we can't hit at the position we might as well field it) Wilmer Flores (buy low candidate maybe?) Ask the Padres who they want to keep - Norris or Hedges and target the other Ask the Mets who they want to keep - Palwecki or d'Arnaud and target the other Ask the A's about Phegley Ask the Cubs about Montero Those are just a few thoughts, not particularly devoted to any of them, but seem like possibilities.
  7. I think they're going to have to shop Kepler, Hicks, Rosario, Buxton, Arcia, etc. They simply don't have enough OF spots for all these guys. I love Kepler but I'd strongly consider moving him this year too. I think our top trade chips this offseason are Plouffe, Kepler, and Polanco.
  8. This is the worst kind of semantics. How many "wells" in capital letters need there be until your "below average" or "nowhere near good" turns into awful? C'mon. You were responding to someone who said his performance has been a "pleasant surprise" and it was your retort directly to that phrase that I took issue with. His performance has been a pleasant surprise precisely because it's been functional and not awful. Has it been lucky? Yeah, probably. But awful? Or whatever the hell "well, WELL below average" is synonymous with? No, it hasn't been.
  9. You also like to drum WAR into the ground at every opportunity and that stat also says he hasn't been bad. He hasn't been good, but no one is arguing that. He just hasn't been awful or worthless. Those aren't the same thing. He's been sort of "meh" which is better than I would bet most of us would've expected. That said, I hope he's as far from a Twins uniform next year as is humanly possible.
  10. Plouffe should be aggressively shopped this offseason. He's a bit overrated around here, but he has some value that could be used to fix a glaring hole going forward. I don't, however, feel forced to move him.
  11. Dave, you should read more on what these practices actually look like and how comparable they are to deer hunting.
  12. Call up some reinforcements already. Even if you aren't super confident they'll be any better, just appearance of trying is worth something.
  13. Yup. People go to some funny lengths to justify hunting and it's pretty much boils down to getting your jollies unaliving things. To each their own, but don't dress it up as something it's not.
  14. We all are to varying degrees, the problem is when we're blind to it. Most people genuinely think they are holding some kind of moral distinction between hunting deer vs hunting lions. Whether it be under some absurd notion of sport or ecology or Majesticness" - take your pick, they're all silly. One should strive for consistency and coherence of belief, even in the face of rampant hypocrisy.
  15. This is a great read.
  16. Ankle perhaps? I've wondered the same thing lately, but I thought that may be a reason.
  17. The offense has been really, really bad. It desperately needs an infusion of new blood - get Arcia up, put Polanco in at SS, and drop Mauer in the lineup.
  18. Well, it might be relative to expectations. I thought he'd just cash another season's worth of ill-gotten checks while being injured or awful and he's been not-awful. So there's that, but it's more a reflection of low expectations than quality play.
  19. One of the best in the game, some franchise is going to get very lucky to land him.
  20. Boy,you are just committed to the belief that theRockies didn't want Reyes. I think reality really disagrees with that. I have no good explanation (incompetence), but it looks pretty clear.
  21. If Reyes for Tulo has been bandied about for almost a year, doesn't that just reinforce the idea that Colorado had some misplaced infatuation with Reyes?
  22. You're too stuck on Smiths actions. Leaving those contract situations hanging, low balling them when you did, and causing your best players to become disgruntled about their situations and then resigning at the moment those choices came to a head was absolutely mismanagement. How his successor acted is, IMO, directly related to the situation left to him.
  23. Except the largest paragraph in that post is the giant indictment of Ryan that all of us are talking about. When you take a deadline, an offseason, and a year of control away from a scenario in which you may trade one of the best pitchers at the time - I don't see how on earth you haven't done serious damage to your position to trade. That's the point, Ryan dragging his feet on things took away time and opportunity. (the two most precious elements to a good trade) We can say that regardless of the choice Smith ultimately made, but it would have been a far stronger position to deal from earlier with more leverage and time to choose.
  24. Yeah, took a knee to the face.
  25. I don't disagree that Smith further bungled the hand he was dealt, but Ryan's refusal to do anything the year prior destroyed all leverage and crippled our options.
