  1. I think the nature of the injury is extremely relevant to the defense of this move and many are ignoring it.
  2. He will have a month to acclimate in September. It's a wrist injury, let him build back his strength and stopping using three friggin games as a counter argument.
  3. 3 games? C'mon now. The only real issue is make it a demotion and not an extended rehab, but Buxton in AAA is perfectly defensible.
  4. This is a wrist injury, he should be taking a long stint building back up strength and speed in his swing. This injury has a notoriously difficult recovery. No sense combining that challenge with major league pitching so quickly.
  5. I've never understood how someone can state that last thought (or something like it) with a straight face. If I put it in more bold terms it's nothing short of monsterous. Viability is only important because we arbitrarily deemed it so.
  6. Humans are about 4 before they can live "independently", but let's face it - we've crafted the whole personhood argument around getting us out of the moral dilemma of abortion. Again, we should reframe this about reducing unwanted pregnancies, which should include comprehensive sex education, male contraception, free birth control, etc. But let's stop pretending we have anything other than a phony, arbitrary definition of personhood.
  7. That puts their public stance still 2-3 years ahead of the Republicans. And, let's face it, the bulk of the people on that stage aren't going to accept gay marriage even on their death bed. Most of that group looks more like Ted Cruz than Rand Paul. That's the problem. Ted Cruz is nauseating to my brain and yet the Republicans keep throwing guys like him at us.
  8. Seriously, Tarasenko and Shattenkirk are your comparisons? Are you even trying to make a fair, logical, comparable argument? Tarasenko is on his first extension, ditto Shattenkirk. Parise and Suter are both on their second major contract. That is a HUGE difference. It's apples and oranges. You simply do not get "value" paying to keep elite talent around. (Much less add it from another team) That's the nature of it in every sport and to criticize the Twins for locking up Mauer on the basis of "poor value" is an argument so preposterous I can't accurately describe it within the confines of the board's posting policies. I'd love a moderator to give me a one time exemption though, because holy crap my brain hurts.
  9. And yet, most of the candidates oppose gay marriage and conservative talk leaders are still calling for major punishments for minor drug offenses. At the very least see where the tide has turned and platform on issues that won't make young fiscal conservatives roll their eyes.
  10. You never get "value" signing elite talent in FA, if that's what you want out of FA you basically endorse dumpster diving. This revisionist history about Mauer and his contract is silly. The price of doing business with elite talent is not going to net "value" and it's preposterous to expect it.
  11. Male contraception, let's embrace that. Look up some things they're doing out there in India and other places. We should band together to focus on reducing unwanted pregnancies and the abortion issue will fix itself. Unfortunately, both sides sit on the extremes rather than looking at practical middle ground that helps everyone. We NEED to totally reframe this issue.
  12. This is because it's the Dems who have it much harder getting people to the polls, especially in non-presidential cycles. The Republican base is far more reliable, which makes their unwillingness to state a broader mission all the more inexplicable.
  13. That doesn't line up well with this .
  14. Our news on the young relief flame throwers just keeps getting worse. Ugh.
  15. No, as Ben pointed out, we view it as a complicated issue. I'm anti-unwanted pregnancy and believe that until that problem is better solved, abortions are a necessity. Otherwise we turn women into forced incubators. That's the real effect of what that ass clown Walker said at the debate. Democrats generally talk more about policy, even though they're quite bad at crafting it. It's Republicans that hammer the social issues that younger generations have much more evolved thoughts about. As this older generation dies out the Republican party is going to have two choices - adapt or die. I don't see why they're delaying that adaptation. They'll likely still get the vast majority of their base to vote for the lesser of two evils and they'll add the necessary sections of the populace to win.
  16. And the elderly and Christians. Those are pretty much the three staples of the party and that is what their message appeals to. I'd also suggest white males over 40 is a bit more accurate.
  17. I guess I should've added that he should let the Megyn Kelly issue drop after the debate too. Good lord is this guy a train wreck.
  18. That's just the price to add or retain elite talent. So I have to conclude that you never want to see that happen. 6 years of Sano and see ya, right?
  19. I want to believe this choice of Pelfrey over May (and the subsequent results) will teach this organization a lesson. But I won't hold my breath on it.
  20. Hillary'/ looks better than Fiorinas, that's how bad it is.
  21. My generation and the millennialist below us are open to fiscal conservatism. We want to hear that message and we see the failure of liberal policies on making the world better. But cramming religion down our throats? Abortion? Gay marriage? Immigration? These are INSTANT losers for Republicans and until they figure that out they will continue to lose.
  22. If they keep hammering it all they'll get is their base and that isn't enough to win.
  23. I do think, with Buxton's injury history, that team control might be more of a factor with him than for most elite prospects.
  24. They essentially only had them under contract at max prices for 8 years anyway, so that's a non-issue. If you think Mauer was going to get even a penny less than that on the open market you have not been paying attention to MLB free agency for a long, long time now.
  25. I agree and yet the Republicans keep hammering those issues to the point of driving people like me away from even casting a ballot.
