  1. Fiorina would never survive as the nominee. Her track record as a CEO is nothing short of abysmal. Talks a good game, but she'll never survive that scrutiny.
  2. "Floor" has somehow come to mean "worst best case scenario".
  3. Encarnacion runs (runs!) around the bases with one arm up like a flap and people want him to eat a baseball. http://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/54120487.jpg
  4. What I liked seeing was the beginning of the end of Trump. He was freaking terrible. I like a lot about Rand Paul, but last night confirmed for me that he's always going to cap out as a rebellious senator. Carson needs to spend every waking moment associating himself with foreign policy, but he might make an excellent vice presidential candidate. I started to wonder - if Rubio's hard line on social issues is just for show in the primaries....isn't he by far the best chance for the Republicans to win?
  5. Yup, that seems about right.
  6. They paid market price, which is what it would take to get/retain them.
  7. Baseball players make no such distinction and find all sorts of ludicrous reasons to throw at each other. As long as you don't touch the other team - celebrate and have fun. Most of all don't artificially neuter personalities in the name of some "integrity" nonsense.
  8. Why care? They hit the crap out of the ball 30 times a year - enjoy the hell out of it. Bat flip and do all sorts of stuff for all I care. But yes, our pitchers should be busting them inside so that they can own the plate themselves. Just don't pitch them inside because you want the game played like a make-believe tea party.
  9. I loved all the post homeruns celebrating and admiring. It almost looked like some fun was happening!
  10. Would prefer a bat but about time Achter got a shot.
  11. Yeah, three stances I disagree with, but all pretty run of the mill Republican stances.
  12. You think Rubio is nuts?
  13. He's been striking people out just fine for the last few months. Chris Sale has had a tough 4 game stretch too, doesn't mean he's not an ace. Gibson will be fine, tough stretches happen. Get back to me when the stretch hits 8 to 10 starts.
  14. Retaining or adding elite talents is going to require cash. If you're going to run away from a price-tag every time it gets high, you're going to run away from elite talent. Also, let's not pretend that the Twins don't have their own cap.
  15. Foster has always been a deeply philosophical man, became a big fan of his a few years ago after hearing some other thoughtful comments from him. I appreciate any person who can be balanced and thoughtful about religion, because that is damn hard to find it seems.
  16. Donald Trump should pray he stays as far away from Megyn Kelly questions for the rest of this debate. He couldn't have bungled that any worse.
  17. For one, NHL players tend to last longer than major league catchers. For another, Mauer's base salary doesn't fluctuate, it's just massive until it's over. The last three years of Parise's deal are all but free. You should also take a good long look at how Parise's salary compares to Mauer's as a percentage of payroll. Hint: It ain't close.
  18. That's fair, I just think the decision here is more of a toss up than many are giving it. The bunt gave them a better chance to tie, while you're talking about a better chance to win. (Fair to say that perhaps it should've been more about winning than prolonging the game) Also, as you pointed out, not every situation is the same, I think that's important. Hicks was swinging well that game and the bunt guaranteed (for all intents and purposes) that one of your best hitters would get a shot. Is it a great decision? No, I'd have preferred a pinch hit, but it wasn't that awful.
  19. Parise's contract is nothing like Mauer's. You're comparing apples and oranges.
  20. Strictly speaking it did drop their chances of winning and I would have rather seen Hunter as well, but it wasn't crippling stupidity either. Other bunts by this team have made far less sense.
  21. They were pumping him hard and in, which is what you do when you expect a bunt. Playing for the strategy you expect doesn't mean you're inviting it, you're just playing to make sure you get the out.
  22. Even if Robinson gets a hit it's still not a tie game, after the bunt one hit (given those on base) was likely to result in a tie. B-ref's win probability difference was +4% after the bunt so strictly by percentages it was not the best call! but also not as crippling as many of you are making out.
  23. Duh, I've seen paint dry that excited me exponentially more than soccer. Rosario is a gamer, Hicks may still be a factor, May and Gibson took nice steps forward, Kepler and Berrios are close, Buxton has arrived, and my god is Sano something special.
  24. I don't know the percentages but the risk v reward here isn't being fairly assessed. These were the choices: 1 out, no double play possibility, one hit ties the game Or Nobody out, double play is possible, two hits needed to tie I don't have a huge problem with the choice, especially with two of your better hitters coming up.
  25. That may be the worst effective bunt in MLB history.
