  1. Those are all good things to consider, the problem in this scenario is we have less time to make that decision. Plouffe's trade value is significantly higher this offseason than it likely will be again. I think, given that and the choices in front of us, dealing him is the only sensible thing to pursue. (But we don't have to feel forced)
  2. I think this year shows Dozier just may be a very streaky hitter.
  3. I know they want to play a ground and pound, control the clock style....but Leidner plays much better when they hurry up or go no huddle.
  4. Sometimes you can trade value where you have an excess for places you don't. That's the premise here, not trading something of value for nothing.
  5. Only ipad and same symptoms here.
  6. Getting it too, constant redirects.
  7. I'd suggest there is a point at which civic minded people get disenfranchised precisely because of the culture of career politicians. People who want to make a difference won't fit in where the primary objectives are getting face time and continually re-elected.
  8. Also, bear in mind that issues like lobbyist power, campaign finance, and other laws relevant to operating in Congress are decided by life-long members of Congress. We might see some actual push-back to the process if there aren't so many people (on both sides) entrenched in profiting off it for their entire life.
  9. I can get behind the idea of extending terms for Representatives to reduce campaigning, but part of what would be beneficial about term limits is that often there wouldn't be campaigning because they'd no longer be able to run. So much of the "career politician" angle is name building and constant campaigning. Effectively solving problems ranks somewhere below "appearances on Meet the Press". That's the real issue, the current format makes politicians focused almost entirely on their own protection than trying to accomplish something for the country. I don't see what the problem with asking people with actual careers in the real world to help run the country. Hell, why is that anything other than a good thing? We have too many Scott Walkers already who have done nothing in life but tell enough people what they want to hear to get into an elected office. I want actual people - teachers, doctors, business people, etc.
  10. I get it, but part of the issue with Indy was they got too good too fast. Most teams rebuilding around a #1 overall pick have at least two years of picking top 10 to build around the cornerstone, Indy didn't have that. I think this year represents a step forward in Luck's supporting cast. I consider that a big deal since I think he's basically carried that team single-handedly to any success they've had. I don't think they're a Super Bowl team, but they are going to be tough to beat.
  11. You should spell it M-A-T-H then.
  12. I think the Twins should be devoting all their assets to catcher and relief pitcher, not starters losing their velocity and struggling in a pitcher's haven.
  13. It's just nice that these games are do or die. That's a great environment for Buxton, Sano, Rosario, Escobar, Hicks, and everyone else to be in. Couldn't ask for a better start to their major league development.
  14. Rosario is never going to be a walks machine, he just needs some improvement. He's already a very positive contributor just with his current production and defense.
  15. I like all this Pittsburgh positivity. I've wanted to go to PNC for awhile but I always imagined Pitt was in the same vein as Cleveland. It's encouraging to hear otherwise.
  16. The other part that people support with Indy is that Luck is just a ridiculous combination of gritty and talented as hell. It's hard to put guys like that away, even if they have a crappy defense.
  17. I have two big reasons for supporting term limits: 1) End the concept of career politicians and 2) open up avenues for reform. I think, if we had term limits, that we'd see more willingness to compromise and look for inventive solutions because the people at the table are always bringing new experience and ideas to the table. The same people making the decisions tends to yield the same results.
  18. AFC Division winners: New England, Baltimore, Indy, Denver WCs: Buffalo and Miami NFC Division winners: Green Bay, Philly, Seattle, New Orleans WCs: Minnesota and Dallas
  19. I especially try to avoid concourses at Minnesota facilities. We appear, as a breed, to be fundamentally incapable of understanding that the middle of the concourse is for walking and not for phone checking, gabbing with someone, or general standing around. It's something of a sport at Target Field maneuvering around all the yahoos clogging the concourse.
  20. It is informed and reasonable because there was a similar situation with Miguel Cabrera. (Radcliff involved, Twins one of only a handful of teams, etc.) We also have a long history of penny-pinching roster building. You don't have to like it, but part of what helps Ryan avoid Hardy for Hoey deals or other huge mistakes is that he is deliberately conservative. It's just what he is. It's part of what makes him a very good GM in fact. But it also has drawbacks and situations like the one involving signing Sano are not where I feel most comfortable with him in charge. Hell, it took him awhile with Target Field revenues to even push his own tendencies in FA. It's just not who Terry Ryan is, for good and for bad. And I like Ryan as a GM, I think he's pretty good, but I'm not delusional about him breaking the bank for an international free agent like Sano. You get me a Delorean and Doc Brown and I'll take any bet that Sano signs elsewhere with Ryan in charge. I don't understand the need to praise Ryan for what he does well, but also delude ourselves about his weaknesses. People seem invariably to fall in one camp or the other. Unless you think the man is some kind of pinnacle of perfection or some kind of troll meant to torment us, it'd be nice if we took him for what he is - very conservative. Sometimes that's good, sometimes it's not.
  21. I don't get people putting Hicks over Rosario. Rosario was a slightly better minor league player, has performed much better as a major league player from the outset, and seems to have that "it" factor as a player that Hicks is only now (finally) showing any signs of. Rosario does need to improve his plate discipline, but he's also a league average OF for OPS as a rookie with outstanding defense. It's taken Hicks three years of fumbling to get to the point where we can even consider him league average. Rosario isn't a finished product, but his minor league track record supports the idea that this is the type of player he can be. Now it's up to our coaches to help him get even better.
  22. Aggressive shopping doesn't mean you are forced to sell, it just means you make it known what assets you have that can move. It isn't urgency, just being prudent with your assets when you have several with intriguing trade value.
  23. Hopefully non-existent.
  24. I'm really not worried about Rosario, not every guy who is successful has to fit a certain mold. The guy has an edge to his game and tremendous plate coverage with his swing. He should work a bit on drawing more walks but he's nowhere close to the concern Danny Santana was. The Twins need to decide who the odd man out is this offseason - Hicks, Rosario, Buxton, or Kepler and aggressively shop them this offseason.
  25. The apology is for refusing to ever give him credit. I hope we're all caught up now.
