  1. Yeah, I always thought open disdain for the military was about as sure-fire a way to destroy a Republican campaign. And yet....he's surviving it. It's so confusing.
  2. The apology directly mentions Sano because he (and several other critical prospects) are part of this team, in part, because of him. When all we ever hear is "Bill Smith sucks, he wrecked the team", we seem to forget that many of the prospects we are excited about are tied to his regime, not Ryan.
  3. You see places like Wrigley and Old Yankee for nostalgia. As an actual game watching experience they are dreadful. Really liked Kauffman and Petco.
  4. I hope the tone of that quote is just trying to be kind to Pelfrey, because there should be nothing he can do with his next start that will save his spot. When Hughes is ready, he's out. If it's anything but that, it's nothing short of stupid.
  5. Most of the criticism you have lead has made little to no effort to be reasonable. If there is any managerial decision to question it's the bunt, not putting in May.
  6. If Duffy had stayed in and blown it with May ready in the bullpen, you guys would be roasting him for that too.
  7. I started reading this as a post about Arcia and sadly didn't find it completely insane.
  8. Even your best relievers screw up sometimes. It's the nature of pretty much every major league bullpen (except for the Royals, and even they aren't perfect)
  9. If you question putting May in as a managerial error you might as well give up ever being taken seriously. Just a sucky outing by the kid.
  10. I think we are still at the rubber meets the road with that. Players like having defined roles and managers like it too. There may even be something to be said for that feeling that stats can't capture. Either way I think that's the stumbling block.
  11. He also could have done that as a defensive replacement. None of us should like it, but the production difference between Robinson and Buxton, at this point, is huge. (Robinson and Hunter too) It likely won't continue but we are playing games that matter now. Personally, I alternate Buxton and Robinson in the lineup and bench Hunter, but the optimal lineup right now includes a lot of Shane Robinson.
  12. Probably, but anywhere that doesn't employ Mike Pelfrey already has a leg up. These better be the last few times we endure him.
  13. If we are truly playing our best to make the playoffs, Buxton shouldn't be playing every day. The sad truth is we should be wondering why Hunter played over Robinson.
  14. If we resign him I may auction my fandom on eBay.
  15. Man, go back and read that first post you made. That wasn't a question, it was just silly, over the top sneering that was totally unwarranted. I agree, let's talk football and not how much money Kill makes. I'm more concerned about running back in this offense, I'm not sure Williams is good enough.
  16. The team has been making steady strides every year, maybe it will plateau but Debbie-downing a close loss to the #2 team in the country is a bit much.

  18. Except it's not "uninformed" - it's very informed. But we can still disagree.
  19. Easy, same way I could say I'm sure if Ryan was in charge we would have never swapped Hardy for Hoey. Conjecture can be very well informed by past evidence and tendencies.
  20. They played a really strong defensive game, very encouraging!
  21. I agree, I'd like to take the chance. I just would keep tempered expectations.
  22. Because it's no longer several weeks ago.
  23. We don't disagree that Berrios should have been up then and should be up now. But we have to deal with the present and the likeliest scenario. People want him up now in Fien's role and I find that pretty preposterous.
  24. No, it's not material fact. None of us are at those negotiating tables or part of the discussions where things happen. Trying to credit a scout, or a scouting director, or find blame with someone else is completely missing the point. It veers the discussion off the track to talking about things we don't know (and won't ever know) the particulars of. Smith was the GM - what happened during that time (good or bad) is on him. When Ryan is the GM - what happens (good or bad) is on him. Invariably parsing that out about whose job was what is excuse making that misses the point. It's often said that your greatest strength is often your greatest weakness. Ryan's greatest strength is staying calm, cool, collected, and not panicking in the process of building a team. It's also his greatest weakness because it limits him in finding opportunities to be aggressive. It happened with Miggy and, by all evidence, likely would've with Sano as well.
