  1. Seems Spielman deserves more credit than many were giving six months ago....
  2. No, its not a good offer. You'd be lucky to get a polite "no" when you would deserve to be hung up on. Youre trying to have your cake and eat it too: yes, Archer is a far better player. But that comes at a far higher cost. You dont want Cole cost for Cole performance, but You want to pay Cole-cost (maybe, not even sure of that) for Archer performance. Sorry, thats just not reaslistic.
  3. To be frank...it's more likely we simply don't have the pieces for Archer. Which may be why we're more closely associated with Cole. You can't cobble together C-list prospects and get an ace and while I like the long term potential of some of these prospects, they aren't lighting up anyone's prospect radar.
  4. How do you intend to trade for Archer and retain all your top pitching prospects? That seems rather unlikely.
  5. I hope those that deliberately and unnecessarily complain about this have many opportunities to do so. That'd be a good thing for the Twins.
  6. Don't worry Bark, we've only decided social media should adjudicate sexual harassment and unacceptable sexual behavior. I'm sure it'll turn out well.
  7. Good for Jack.
  8. I wouldn't get used to it.
  9. Short answer: nope. Not on that issue.
  10. Yeah, I was trying to give a mild version of how bitter this would be. I don't think people fully appreciate what they are advocating.
  11. That's what I was sort of getting at in my last post. Your plan is essential, but without accepting leadership it won't work. Hell, without less oppressive leadership that stamps it out before it starts. The splintering is, I think, too little talked about on this issue. The infighting within the various groups has made governance and peace really unstable.
  12. Well right, but we aren't talking about an end to the violence between humans though are we? I thought we were talking specifically about this scourge....
  13. You don't know what you'd have to give and what you'd get. Clayton Richard might cost you Gonsalves. I doubt most people here would do that.
  14. That's a big part of it. And, IMO, at some point we have to hope there is some kind of event that unifies that various sects of Islam so this kind of splintering isn't so violent. Christians have split many times over and remained amicable, but the various sects of Islam hate each other almost as much as they hate anyone else. I don't know what that unifying event could be (and I hope it isn't a violent thing) but short of that I'm not sure how we quell the various in-fighting to allow a more progressive, moderate view of the religion to win out. Especially given the lack of real democracy in many of the most prominent nations.
  15. I literally cannot make a lick of sense out of this.
  16. The cost of changing that conversation now ranges from stupid to impossible. So while what you are saying makes a good bumper sticker, reality isn't going to cooperate the way you think. Even for Clayton Richard you're going to pay more than you want.
  17. If you decide to "get help" this year it should be by trading Dozier and Santana for long term help. And that's only if pumpkin Dozier wakes up again. If they are in first by July 1 the conversation changes, but that's a ways off.
  18. This scourge really has to be stopped. It's an affront to all we value.
  19. Duffey is a long man - with the depth in our rotation it's time to stretch him back out now. Maybe that was part of the plan tonight? (Blind hope....)
  20. Well, let's be honest, the difference here is that the Twins absolutely could do it but for whatever reason have chosen not to. I doubt you have willfully (and repeatedly) denied Ms. Strahovski's advances.
  21. Which is why I said we should play some more and see if they can continue this. I hope they do, but the time to make the decision about contention isn't now.
  22. If they were using him as a true setup man it'd change my opinion, but I don't see that as the case. He's being used just as often as a long man. I don't love the idea of stretching him back out either, in general I think flipping guys back and forth is a bad idea, but my tune here is different for two reasons: 1) Tepesch. 2) Tepesch. (Kidding, Duffey has flipped back and forth from this role before. Unlike May, he's at least done this before)
  23. That's fine, but trace the conversation then: Dave: Says we should do this Twins FO: Do what? Me: Do this - get in on one of these signings. I made no judgment about whether we would, I said we should. I know full well we won't, but that wasn't the point. It wasn't a "can we?" question. It was "should we" and we absolutely should have been doing it.
  24. And specifically, I don't understand why we treated the Cuban FA market with such avoidance. We dabbled in other avenues with Nishioka and Park but we never seemed to take that market seriously. That isn't a FO specific criticism, it's just a stone cold fact that we don't do this for whatever reasoning there is.
  25. Hell, all we have to do is stop playing Kansas City and we're a sub .500 team. The price to play right now is likely so high, it's best to ride this out another month and see where we stand.
