  1. Yes, they have their own subscription network.
  2. I'd rather get bad value on the backend of a FA contract than dump a bunch of prospects chasing a rental mid-season. Of course, you can do both, but I'd rather lock in an asset with cash as opposed to trades.
  3. I think we see Broxton/Santana dealt for an arm. This could be a pretty formidable group. They'll have an interesting blend in their lineup if nothing else.
  4. I think we'll need a lot more information about their vision for this before we can decide if the model will succeed or fail. Arena league football didn't garner much of a following and my initial reaction is to expect much the same here.
  5. I wouldn't say "regardless", but no dollar figure thrown out so far would scare me away.
  6. The most interesting thing to watch for is what's next from Milwaukee. They have some high end young OF assets to move.
  7. I never said that. The exchange between you and mike was about bidding on Cubans in a thread about bidding on a high end free agent. In those two fields, we absolutely have "never succeeded". We've had many other successes, but I'm done hearing about trying hard in those two areas. To me, I've heard the pat on the head talks long enough. I'll believe the effort is really there when the organization finally makes something happen. (In those two specific areas)
  8. At some point "you tried hard" loses it's luster when you never succeed. Either you are the most miserably unlikely group ever, or perhaps the claim you were trying hard is a bit dubious.
  9. Today in Republican politics: It's ok to slander law enforcement as bumbling, biased, incompetent, untrustworthy oppressors. As long as they do it.
  10. Love Vlad, glad he got in.
  11. Also, without Sano, this is not a terribly prolific team. They have a good balance of power throughout their lineup, but Sano's 35-40 homerun power in the middle is a key cog in why that's workable. I think point 5 could be broadened out....we have a number of regression candidates. Rosario, Santana, Polanco, Rodney, Reed, and others that might regress. They may also establish that last year is a new norm, we don't know. But I am especially worried about a dip from Santana and Rosario.
  12. I said nothing about any of that. You spun my post well off the rails and on to something I never said nor implied. As of the time you read this post and it is on Twinsdaily, the Twins will have done nothing to add to their mix of starting pitchers. I simply want the end result by opening day to be more than nothing. It could absolutely still happen in the time between now and opening day....but time is ticking.
  13. It doesn't have to be Darvish. But it does have to be significantly more than "nothing".
  14. I might quibble with the word "continue"......
  15. He'll never hit the market.
  16. And now the left is starting to eat it's own for ending the shutdown. Ugh.
  17. There has always been mudslinging and dirty politics, but I think this particular brand of tribalism is new. We've come to a point where outcomes are nearly irrelevant, when they should be the most important thing.
  18. We have literally developed derogatory slang words for people are willing to listen to others. That's our politics today in a nut shell.
  19. Good thing no one said that. Baseball is concerned about their demographics and about the sport getting a rep for being slow and dull. And they should be. Those aren't things you wear like a badge of honor if you want to stay relevant.
  20. I didn't say the number of people playing currently, I said the people watching on TV. That article is rich with a lot of information, none of it particularly encouraging for baseball's long term health. And you can bet MLB knows it too. So you're welcome to your nostalgia, but my love for the game tends to make me favor it's success over nostalgia. Heavy-handed nostalgia could suffocate the game to death and we might eventually be nostalgic for the days when baseball was relevant.
  21. You may not take interest in it, but baseball is. And I believe rightly so. RB listed a number of concerning demographic trends that baseball is also likely taking stock of. This is not a problem you address after the situation has become a red alert. It's wise to try and get well ahead of the issue, because if the symptoms manifest as a full blown disease, it'll be hard to ever recover. The symptoms are different, but boxing would be a cautionary tale.
  22. Well, Remmers has been moving around the last few years. Carolina had him at RT and so did we. It's been a long time since he's been a guard, so at this point if footwork is hard for him he'll have to restart either way. I guess I'm just a cynic about footwork for NFL players. They're all so terrible at it anyway.
  23. Teams ran on them for an average of 120 yards per game. They were a below average run defense. They gave up roughly 35-40 yards more a game on the ground than we did, which accounts for that gap. But the Jags were great - they have two amazing CBs. To give up anything less than 200 yards per game in the air in this era of football is great. Plain and simple. And Sendejo, Waynes, and Newman are part of that too.
  24. There's a thread with poll numbers on it. There are actually a number of alarming trends in baseball. Like, for example, the vast majority of people that watch baseball today will likely be dead by the year 2040. And virtually all of them are white. You should check out the thread and look into things a bit, it might explain why baseball is taking the matter so seriously. I think showing an effort to fix this is a good thing. Too often, baseball players seem to give no care at all to how much they are dragging things out. spycake's post seems to indicate they have more than doubled their lollygagging between pitches in just 30 years. We should be looking to reverse that for the health of the sport.
  25. Newman wasn't a disaster. He was solid. You don't end up giving up less than 200 yards a game through the air regularly playing "disasters". And yeah, from about the 3rd/4th game on....Waynes was good despite a heavy amount of targets. Really good against the run too.
